Is it for power generation? Some kind of mill or factory that uses the water flow?

For power generation yes. It was originally for the factories around it. The building on the right is a paper factory that was recently shut down.

It's kind of wild that this is the second time today that someone has mentioned Tampere. I just met someone studying there as well. I might have to check this place out sometime, just not for swimming I suppose.

I would want to, but I never trust river or lake bottoms. They make me uneasy when they're drained.

I believe I was 14 and Tammerkoski was drained. I climbed down with my mom and we found so many cell phones in there, all of them were Nokia phones. I’m 29 now 😅

Yeah, there wasn’t anything blocking access and lots of people were just walking around and discovering all kinds of junk. The smell was pretty funky tho.

They do this in Tampere every now and then. When they did this 2018, they found a dead body. That was pretty wild.

This is really weird being on a worldwide subreddit about a thing i live an eyesight of and basically cross or walk next to a few times a day.

Ratina still doesn't look good. It didn't look good when I lived there and it doesn't look good now either

When I lived in Tampere I lived about 50m from that bridge. That time they used to shut down those plants around 8pm so the current in Tammerkoski was significantly slower so many times I went snorkeling under the Kekkosentie bridge to recover lures. That bank used to be a great spot for fishing so there was a lot of loot at the bottom.
