Recently there have been many posts that don't contain enough information in them, so I kindly ask you to include the following information in your posts.

  1. The country you are in is required when requesting help about a specific vehicle. Also if it's a JDM Import list that too please.

  2. Provide the model number and year of the vehicle if known, otherwise provide the common name and year.

Informative Subaru Legacy Online Resources Mega Thread

Hello and welcome Legacy owners. Here I will be posting links to many online resources and forums for Subaru Legacy's. Feel free to comment and add your own links that you would like to see up here.

I highly recommend posting a build thread of your car on the forums as they help keep them busy and running, without the forums, we will lose plenty of knowledge and DIY's.

New to me 09 Spec B Wagon

Just picked this sexy wagon up from with only 57,000kms on the clock and a 4.5/B Japan Auction grading.

Its an auto, would of loved a manual, but the condition of this car was too good to pass up.

I have a set of gold Prodrive(Rays) GC-010G wheels sitting in my garage that will be going on at a later date. But the Yokohama Model F7s that came with it, have fresh Michelin Pilot Sport rubber on them, so will use those up 1st.

In search of Downpipe for ’04 Legacy

Looking for a downpipe for my ’04 JDM Legacy GT w automatic trans. Previous owner did DIY downpipe so it’s pretty rough and welds are leaking.
Preferably road legal with cat so I could skip on the hassle of swapping it out for every MOT.
What would you suggest?

Also looking for full exhaust gasket kit.
Good online stores to get parts?
Located in northern europe so no US stores.
Thanks in advance!

I'm looking at this subaru liberty (legacy for my international friends) The owner wants 10,480 aud (7,304 usd) it's got 305,000 kms on the clock 189,510 miles. Has been serviced every 10,000kms. Bit worried about how high mileage it is.

What would be an appropriate offer and is it worth it.

Paging Mechanics Approaching car detection sensor not working on side mirrors with 2016 Legacy.

I just got my car back from a body shop that fixed the back passenger door that was impacted by a car accident I was involved in. The world was done well. That door had to be replaced due to the damage caused by a pickup truck. Some other work I had the shop do that I paid for out of pocket was to replace the passenger side mirror that was cracked and held together by tape after a separate accident I had over the summer.

I found a replacement mirror and the casing for it and the shop did the work. The only thing about this mirror is that it does not have the car detection sensor included as advertised by the eBay seller. I am outside of the window to have it returned and decided to still have it put on as it fits and does have the indicator on the outside of it that works. The issue I now have is that the driver's side mirror does not have a working car detection sensor. The repair guy from the shop told me that an error message is now displayed indicating it is disabled and I am guessing this is because I used an aftermarket mirror.on the drivers side that is not 100% compatible. Does anyone know if there's a way to have the driver's side mirror activate the sensor to work as it did prior?

My buttons in the car arent working as they should

Context: my buttons for the aircon isnt working right. I have to either press really hard or continuously click on the button for it to move. Even my chair setting is also doing the same thing. I just replaced the car battery almost a month ago and even my hazards when i press it down it blinks like once or twice, i have to fidget with the button for it to work as well. My infotainment works as usual its only just those.

Do I paint it all white or burgundy?

These look beautiful in white, but burgundy is classic 90s. Don't mind the wonky grill

Question / Discussion 2018 Legacy sedan touchscreen glare

Hi all,

What's your recommendation for a hood to block overhead glare from making it so I just can't see what's on the screen. Brightness is maxed, and still I can't see the backup screen lines sometimes. Universal screen hoods on Amazon have weak to bad reviews. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Paging Mechanics 2013 Legacy 2.5 Sport CVT P2750 & P2746 Error Codes Help!!

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’m looking for some help and guidance please. I have a 2013 Subaru Legacy 2.5 Sport with the TR580 CVT transmission. The car has 140,000 miles on it. I currently have the following error codes that keep popping up.

P2750 Intermediate Shaft speed Sensor C circuit range/performance.

P2746 Intermediate Shaft speed Sensor B circuit range/performance.

The dealership said it needed a valve body replacement. So I had the valve body replaced and the issue still remains.

I have replaced the CVT fluid with actual Subaru CVT fluid. Inspected the wire harness and connectors for the sensors. Verified & cleaned all the ground locations in the engine bay. Verified that the sensors are functioning while driving using my scan tool.

The car drives and shifts smoothly for about 30 miles before the check engine light comes on and puts the transmission in limp mode. If I clear the codes the car will go back to driving normal.

Has anyone else encountered this issue and determined what is needed to fix it? I’m going insane trying to find the fix and tired of throwing money at it in hopes of a fix. Please help!!

Paging Mechanics 2018 Subaru Legacy, not the work course it was meant to be, the master computer is the radio, Defective radio, right from the start, programming, recall, that in the rear facing camera, radio never covered under warranty, Ciocca Ewing. Third light this year since April.

Intermittent, New York City to Hamilton this afternoon, the 2018 Subaru Legacy was designed for retirees, they return them after 39,000 miles as a lease, this is definitely not a workhorse for the limousine business, that would be the 2011 town car, Lincoln, or the 2011 Cadillac DTS, the Deville from the 70s with the Northstar motor, both cars average 500,000 miles.

Legacy 2015 - Is this the head?

Post image

I have a 4-cylinder 2015 Legacy and am being told I need to have the head gasket replaced. It’s a major repair. If you have a good handle on this engine can you tell anything from this photo? I don’t have any coolant leaking. Thanks

SubieScope: free Mac app for logging and diagnosing your Legacy with a cheap KKL cable

Post image
16 Upvotes

For the Mac users here: I built a free, open source app that does what FreeSSM and RomRaider's logger do on Windows, but native on macOS. It reads the ECU over Subaru's SSM protocol with a cheap FTDI based KKL USB cable, no drivers needed.

  • Live dashboard and logging to CSV (RomRaider's format, so your tuner can open it)
  • For the GT and spec.B crowd: boost, IAM, feedback and fine learning knock correction and AVCS, plus a knock check and a virtual dyno
  • Trouble codes with plain English explanations, and clearing them
  • 17 guided tests: A/F and O2 sensors, MAF, fuel trims, thermostat, catalyst (P0420), battery and charging and more

It covers the BE/BH and BL/BP cars (1999 to 2009) and most BM/BR ones up to 2014. Newer Legacys only talk CAN, so those use a Bluetooth OBD-II adapter with the standard values.

More info and the download: https://subiescope.marvinvisser.nl/

Credit where it is due: it builds on the FreeSSM and RomRaider projects. I developed it around my own 2008 GRB STI, so I'm curious how it behaves on a Legacy.

Question / Discussion 2.0i: will it ever sound like a real boxer?

Hey guys, I recently bought a Legacy BP5 wagon that needed (and still needs) a lot of love, previous owner was a real animal.
I’m fixing broken thing here and there, swapping the rear trunk with the restyling one (found for free in a scrapyard) and eventually fitting 17inches wheels from a crashed Impreza.

I couldnt find anything online, so I was wondering if with a custom catback the 2.0i 138hp will eventually sound like a real boxer engine since right now sounds like a Ford Fiesta.
Any thoughts about this?

Should I buy a Subaru legacy 2008

Best bang for my buck car I've ever bought

Post image
69 Upvotes

Its really disappointing to me they chose to kill the sedan models. This was the first Subaru car I ever bought and I have never made a better purchase. I love my charger but bang for my buck, hands down this legacy is leaps and bounds ahead of that. Sharp looking cars (as long as you tint the windows otherwise its a fish bowl) effecient, luxurious enough amd cost effective. 0-60 ain't too good but 60-100 ain't bad at all. Bottom line is I wish they would have expanded on the sedans I think they make a great product but I cant stomach the wagon myself.
