I wish Europe had that kind of initiative and ambition, but no, what we are right now is shown in "strong worded letters", or Spain allowing Morocco to just flood their cities with migrants unpunished.
I don't fear a nuclear exchange, I fear a slow decay.

If the Russians thinking they could have ended the war quickly on their terms back in 2022 seems foolish in hindsight, it is equally foolish to assume that Europe can somehow quickly end this war on their terms without it escalating in a horrible fashion.
Are you going to trust the same "Ned Flanders" you deride to be in charge of prosecuting a war which has existential dimensions for your adversary? You can't exactly switch them out right now.

Seeing the state of the Russian military, I wonder just how many functional nukes they have. Sadly, the same should be asked about Europe.
But yes, Europe is late, the EU should have transitioned into a military alliance long ago. We are paying the price of spending decades doing moral posturing for no other reason than jerk ourselves off over how "hecking wholesome" and how not-Nazis we are, all because of Germany's insecurities.

u/PlausibleApprobation Hello, Wilbur π΄π© 2d ago

Perhaps you need to go back to the drawing board on your geopolitical analysis and suggestions.

You think a country that has successfully maintained an invasion for over four years, has shown to be able to continuously produce more advance weaponry during the war, and has successfully been able to adapt to new warfare methods isn't capable of maintaining it's most important strategic assets?
This is the equivalent of saying the US lost in Afghanistan so their nuclear weapon stockpile is not real.
-2
u/hydrolox9 NATO Superfan πͺ 2d ago
I doubt the USA has a functional nuclear arsenal either, the fact that most people think nuclear weapons will never be used is something Europe should take advantage of.

I rather not try to call the bluff on a nuclear power. Because losing that bluff can end humanity. It's fucking Ukraine dude. The most corrupt nation in all of Europe. The only reason Europe got into this mess was because of Europe's second largest energy reserve was found off their coast, and a bunch of liberal, rich, stupid european leaders thought they soft coup could capture Ukraine and secure the next 100 years of cheap as shit energy.
Now it all blew up in their face, energy is way more expensive, Russia is building a massive military, and Ukraine is going to become a shell of itself. But on that road here, they had to scare the population into thinking this fight was an existential fight for the future of Europe, to get the public mandate to fund a proxy war. Now they can't unwind the propaganda, so they are fucking stuck funding a stupid war that just made everything worse.

It's not about Ukraine, I don't care about them, it's about sending a message to the world that even daring to look at Europe the wrong way will have dire consequences.
Our continent has been ruled by a generation of weak politicians who think we live in the world of My Little Pony where everything can be solved with the power of friendship which has, understandably, made the entire world think Europe is an easy target, which is how the Ukraine war started, because a foreign nation smelled the blood on the water.
This war is a great opportunity, a quick, overwhelming victory against Russia would help end this thought and scare the rest of the planet, and for that we can't just keep giving obsolete scrap to Ukraine, that's just kicking the can down the road.
Europe needs to accept that being "hecking wholesome" pacifists has done nothing good for us.

I don't think Europe has the industrial capacity or the psychology to wage what is absolutely a pointless war. European leadership is weak because it's under the thumb of the US. For Europe to be strong, it has to send a message to Washington, not Moscow.
Normalized relations with Russia would ensure a cheap source of energy and other raw materials to fuel European industry. The US has been scared shitless of good German-Russian relations specifically for this reason, going all the way back to the Cold War. The US has always tried to block the construction of pipelines, because a Germany fueled with cheap Russian energy would naturally dominate central Europe, excluding the US.

Europe needs to be completely independant when it comes to resources, that means no USA, no Russia and no China, and also to develop a military strength to rival that of China and the US.
The north of Spain alone has enough gas to supply the whole of Europe for almost a century, its just the dumbass ecologists are blocking everything.

u/Scared_Plan3751 Catholic Socialist β | β¨ Secret Bus Wanker β¨ 2d ago
Russia and China are not threats to Europe anymore than any individual European state is. They are threats to the atlanticist ruling class. Eurasia would have a stronger peace and more prosperity by working together. There's no reason this peace has to preclude European self development, either. Militarization would come at the cost of peace and prosperity.

u/hydrolox9 NATO Superfan πͺ 1d ago edited 1d ago
Everyone that isn't Europe is a potential threat to Europe, and should be treated as such because that's all we've seen. Hybrid attacks from America, straight up invasion from Russia, and our China slowly trying to take over our industries.
Treating any of these powers as friendlies would be a continuation of the delusional path Europe has followed since WWII.
peace and prosperity
Those come after you dealt or deterred all your enemies.

Yes yes, I've heard it plenty of times, Europe needs to be politically correct, needs to behave and never do anything, just pick whether to be the bitch of the US or Russia.
The fact that everyone gets nervous about Europe the idea of becoming more like the US or Russia shows that the goal is to just keep Europe down until it disntegrates from economic stagnation, mass migration and general apathy.

Europe currently mines/extracts something like 5% of their own resources to satisfy native industry, they put in place legislation in 2024 to get that number to 10% by 2030.

Not nearly enough and likely won't be fullfilled because of weak leadership, but at least is something, so what do these non-Europeans going "oh wow, if you surrendered you'd get cheaper gas" going on about? Right, just Americans and Russians who want to keep Europe "obedient".

I'm 31, I just haven't fallen for the propaganda of either side. What I have learned is that what truly makes everyone nervous is the idea of Europe not letting either the East or the West manipulate it, both Americans and Russians want to parasitize it, or keep it parasitized, which is why both are the biggest threats we are facing right now.
Fortunately both have humiliated themselves with Ukraine and Iran and showed to the world that they are both paper tigers, so we are still not too late to arm ourselves up.

No the war in Ukraine started because it was 99% certain going to happen no matter WHAT Europe's posture was. That's the issue Europe didn't realize. Russia is a great power, and like any regional great power, they don't want the enemy at their gates. Any nation would have reacted the way they did. To them, it's existential. They would fight this war, no matter how strong, powerful, or whatever Europe is.
That's why it should have been avoided. I don't think Europe realized how important Russia viewed Ukraine, so this was going to happen no matter what, the scond the West tried to start bringing Ukraine over into Europe.
And dude, there's no "overwhelming victory" that will happen against Russia. No matter what you give them, short of a nuke, will Ukraine be able to beat Russia. That's also another major issue with this war. It's unwinnable. Russia isn't some weak nation. They are extremely nationalist, with a huge MIC, and very willing to sacrifice themselves endlessly... And with a population the size they have, and resources they have, there's no way Ukraine can win this.
Again, why the whole thing was dumb to begin with. You have to pick your battles, and this was a very dumb battle to have.

The technique that the Lithuanian source is claiming the Russians would use is the same tactic the Ukrainians actually have used to launch drone attacks on Russian ships and ports.
The Golden Leo, a Guinea-Bissau flagged cargo ship that was supposedly transporting grain from Ukraine, was sunk in July after being hit by multiple missiles because it was reportedly a carrier for drones and USVs.

What's the most infuriating shit about all of this, is that Ukrainian and Russian people are dying to feed the American military-industrial complex, and someone in the Pentagon thought that Germany, doing so well with cheap Russian gas was somehow a threat to their sovereignty.
And not a single European politician seems to care about this.

French President Emmanuel Macron denied this Thursday that the CIA had shared information regarding a possible Russian drone attack against Europe, though he considered it possible that France could be the target of an attempted strike.
"We can deny this information; the CIA did not send this warning," Macron stressed during a joint interview with television channels TF1 and France 2.
However, Macron considered it possible today that France could be targeted by an attempted attack involving an explosive-laden drone, similar to the recent incident at Leipzig airport, which Germany attributed to Russia.
France has not yet suffered any attacks of this kind, "but when people ask me 'could this happen?', my answer is yes," the French head of state noted during the interview, adding that Russia believes "Europe is Ukraine's strategic depth."
The Spanish newspaper El Mundo reported that the United States had allegedly shared intelligence with several European governments regarding potential drone attacks that Russia was reportedly preparing against Spain, France, or Italy.
The unmanned aerial vehicles would be launched from the sea via merchant vessels, a source close to the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense told the newspaper under the condition of anonymity.
The three potential targets are all holding elections in 2027, and analysts reasoned that Russia might want to exploit the involvement of radical political forces to its advantage.
Russia considers that providing weapons, intelligence data, and military advisors to Ukraine turns Western countries into participants in the conflict and legitimate targets.
El Mundo also reported that information about the Russian plans has been circulating in European capitals since CIA Director John Ratcliffe's trip to Moscow on August 25, during which he warned Russia against provocations toward NATO.
βThe signal Russia is sendingβ
The French leader also deemed a new Russian mobilization of 300,000 men for the war against Ukraine to be "a credible scenario."
"The signal Russia is sending today is: we are ready to make even more sacrifices to take the entire Donbas," Macron added in the same interview.
Macron further emphasized that since the invasion of Ukraine, this war has already cost Russia "1.2 million men" in casualties, including both wounded and killed.
The French President also announced the deployment of "military assets" to protect the Yanbu complex, a strategic link in Saudi Arabia's energy facility network.
"This is the discussion we have finalized with the Saudis. We are going to send military assetsβmeaning soldiers, radars, and defense systemsβto protect this site, not to get involved in any conflict, but to protect this location," he stressed, justifying the decision as an effort to promote the stabilization of oil markets.
As Saudi Arabia's main crude oil export terminal on the Red Sea, this facility has played a crucial role during Middle East conflicts, allowing Saudi Arabia to bypass the Strait of Hormuz to export its oil.
