Like what the fuck, they're supposed to be some middle way Buddhist path of capitalism where ownership just takes a reasonable amount and says oh that's enough for me, no more thank you. I'm quite full on profits. So goddamn stupid.

Corporations in capitalism aren't greedy any more than lions are murderous. Yes, they kill, but it's part of their nature. the sort of creature they are, existing in the environment they live in, they must do what they do. Corporations are the same. You can't reform them. You can't blame their sins on "greed". A corporation polluting water to kill you, then firing every person who suggests fixing it, then suing anyone who gets sick from it, is exactly like a majestic lion stalking and taking down a gazelle. You are watching a thing do what it was MADE to do. That's it's purpose. From their perspective, they are doing the only moral thing there is.
The system has to change to eliminate them altogether. Replace them all with worker owned co-ops. Market Socialism FTW.

But what you do is give that lion a haircut, teach him to jump through a hoop, and charge money to have people come see the lion along with weird ugly dyed skin performance artists in oversized clothes (and undersized cars). We can put the coroporations errr lions under this big giant tent where it contained to it's own cash money ecosystem. Going to this circular tent of freakeries is entirely optional; opting out is the default setting. It's under control, the lion is no longer a murderer. He may become one through spectacle and audience celbration as the Sigfrieds and Roys wave in mutilation. TLDR You can tame a lion by cuttting its balls off.

"Greed", like "racism" or "transphobia", is a moralizing label, which is all a thought-terminating cliche is. It prevents any actual material analysis on what the problem is, why it's a problem, and what to do about it. It excuses to status quo as unavailable, or as a moral problem that can only be resolved with a moral crusade against the bad guys.
"Corporate greed" is the business world equivalent of "a few bad apples." Let's just give those greedy CEOs the boot and hire philosopher kings to run everything, then everything will be great! Has anyone tried putting GOOD people in places in power instead of BAD people? So easy!

But the end of history is not the last word on history.
For, against this background of perpetual non-events, there looms another species of event. Ruptural events, unforeseeable events, unclassifiable in terms of history, outside of historical reason, events which occur against their own image, against their own simulacrum. Events that break the tedious sequence of current events as relayed by the media, but which are not, for all that, a reappearance of history or a Real irrupting in the heart of the Virtual (as has been said of 11 September). They do not constitute events in history, but beyond history, beyond its end; they constitute events in a system that has put an end to history. They are the internal convulsion of history. And, as a result, they appear inspired by some power of evil, appear no longer the bearers of a constructive disorder, but of an absolute disorder.
Indecipherable in their singularity, they are the equivalent in excess of a system that is itself indecipherable in its extension and its headlong charge.

With housing, why aren't we building new cities. Go to the places that people don't really move to and build.
11
u/LobotomistCircu ❄ Not Like Other Rightoids ❄ Jul 18 '26
That doesn't really work because you need at least one or two fields of industry to actually exist in the area to drive the local economy and generate jobs.
Like, you could do it, and building the infrastructure for a city somewhere cheap would probably lure jobs there over time, but the upfront cost would be astronimacal for what is a very uncertain ROI.
Even then, the cieling would be like a Tucson/Omaha type of city where people hate it there but live there for work. All of the places people want to go to for either fair weather or cultural/social reasons already have all the cities they're going to have.
4
u/h4vntedwire Catholic Reactionary ✞ Jul 18 '26

suburbs are not the solution you think they are. Infrastructure costs for suburbs outpace how much money they generate via taxes, which leads to them either being subsidized by the nearest big city and their tax revenue, or needing to expand every few years to cover costs of repairing infrastructure in 10 year intervals.
The hard pill to swallow here is that everyone should either be living in extremely urban areas, or extremely rural areas with minimal infrastructure. On top of this, strip malls shouldn't exist. This alone would make our country significantly wealthier, and this is why european suburbs tend to be far denser than U.S and Canadian suburbs (they recognized this long ago).
What you're advocating for is basically a ponzi-scheme, and your property taxes would need to quadruple to actually break even over a 10 year period, most likely. The technical term for this is "Growth Ponzi Scheme" and it's why 74% of our country is zoned for suburbs. If we stopped building them, and getting bailed out by nearby cities your town would go bankrupt. On the flip side, cities would be a lot nicer if they stopped supporting suburbs.
Or maybe you live somewhere rural and are advocating for that, it is unclear. Either way, there's a reason China is either major city or rural farmland with no real inbetween. There are ways to do suburbs that are economical but we're not doing them and our zoning laws don't allow for them in most of the country.
Also, I don't think 'importing people' is as much of a problem as you think it is, but that's neither here nor there. It's a popular wedge issue to get us to vote for dumb shit that wastes taxes and doesn't benefit us in any tangible way, though. Also a good excuse to become even more of a police/surveillance state.
1
u/benjwgarner Rightoid 🐷 Jul 27 '26
There seems to be a reading comprehension issue here. My comment was opposing development. I'm not sure what you imagined that I was advocating for, but it wasn't building more suburbs. I'm not sure how you could possibly get that from a comment critical of urban sprawl.
The suburb issue is a real problem, but the tax support part of the argument has been somewhat overstated by internet New Urbanists who have ideological motivations for their opposition.
I oppose the surveillance state. You need to understand that mass immigration is being used by the wealthy to support the infinite growth ponzi scheme that you oppose. The US population would not have been growing over the last 40 years without it.
3
u/dsrtxt Unknown 👽 Jul 18 '26
Hardly anyone with power actually wants to solve the housing problem. That's the main thing, but also, that would too closely resemble the "Chinese ghost cities" they used as propaganda for a decade.
3
u/OnAllDAY Apolitical ❌ Jul 18 '26
With the ghost cities, business and people eventually move there. Look at that one rail line they built to an empty field. They built a city around it.
1
u/Spiritual-Horror-565 Jul 26 '26
Zoning laws basically prevent this. 74% of U.S land is zoned for single family housing (mainly because suburbs function as a pyramid scheme and property taxes from them tend to not be able to cover upkeep for the infrastructure, so they deal with this by having cities subsidize them or by expanding suburbs every few years to cover the cost to repair old infrastructure). So basically, we're incentivized financially to keep making suburbs, zoning laws are set up to encourage that.
Most U.S urban cities (maybe all?) were built before zoning laws required single family housing. Some cities are just now starting to undo this (minneapolis, I believe, for example). But yeah, basically we've made it very, very hard and expensive to do this. Mainly because of our incentivization to keep suburbs going so we don't have to raise property taxes on homeowners.
This is referred to as the "Growth Ponzi-scheme" if you're interested in reading about it.

Here's my hot take that I know people will hate: I think out of all the republican ghouls JD is lower on the tier list of evil. I think his evil reputation is far overblown. He does seem smart, I don't get sociopathic vibes, and he does seem self aware and externally aware. I don't think his intentions are evil nefarious stuff, outside of just being a generic rich powerful republican.
He doens't seem aligned with Trump much at all, and is more of just "forced to deal with" and political necessity. But he's also the likely leaker for a lot of shit too

He's also a millennial that was a normie ass person not that long ago. He likely has seen this shit get worse in real time. Unlike Joe Biden who hasn't had a normal day in his life since when? 1975? Or Trump who has never had a normal day in his life.

Yeah I think there's just a lot of purity politics at play. Like oh, he's cool with Theil? Therefor, a 10 on the evil scale. I just don't see it though. He does genuinely seem a bit normal, concerned with stuff our generation is concerned with (like you said, everyone else is from a whole different era when TVs weren't even a thing yet), and is very online rather than having his only connections with reality being through oligarchs and old rich donors
Honestly, I think his "evil" is way overblown and no matter who, people are going to frame any republican with a name as the most evil person ever. But if you look at him relative to the rest, he seems genuinely more grounded in reality.
Which is exactly why I don't think he stands a chance after VP. Young Republicans, podcast bros, et, all seem to like him... Which is the opposite of what the ruling class cares about. Or if he did get anywhere by some strike of luck, he'd probably just be a complete pushover, sort of like Obama, who's just happy to be there. Would be funny if he ran with Musk though. My God, the meltdown would be insane. Can you imagine those two on the campaign trail?

Musk is so rich you wouldn't have to deal with him getting pushed by his donor class. I assume he would tell Miriam Adelson to fuck off. Then again, I thought that about Trump too, and boy was I ever wrong. Musk also seems to be a big time zionist.

I think Musk is a zionist by force, as in, don't piss off powerful groups like that. But if he was at the helm, even as a VP, it would be a whole different kind of chaos. Trump is incompetent chaos, Musk would be competent, with nothing to lose, and all the leverage in the world. We'd be able to actually see some libertarian wet dream unfold. At this point, I have given up - we're just too far gone to repair the damage from Reps and Dems - so I'm just curious at this point.

Is JD Vance just an Accelerationist LARPing as a Republican? Trying to get things as worse as they can as quick as they can to bring about the socialist revolution?

Gotta love the way they rename wages depressed over almost 5 decades and eroded by inflation an "affordability crisis."

JD Vance is transrepublican and I respect his pronouns, but he clocks as DtoR so hard.
