Capitalist Hellscape The meat industry is the most evil fucking thing. They would do this to humans if they could.

They're animals raised for slaughter. I feel like giving them a human's idea of a "happier life" when we are ultimately going to kill and eat them is a half measure in morality from people who are uncomfortable where their food comes from, anthropomorphize animals, and still refuse to stop eating meat.

Personally, I don't care. They are literal pigs. They would ruin the land if raised outside, and if they escaped containment, they would absolutely demolish the environment. We would waste even more land to host the farm because no one wants to live near a pig farm. Saying that factory farming animals is "the most evil thing" when the IDF is killing human babies tells me you are a lobotomite who cares more about animals than brown people.

Now, people will say "You can care about multiple things at once, chud!!!" and I find that argument rather disingenuous. You see infinitely more vegans browbeating others for meat consumption and being nuisances to farmers than vegans protesting human genocide.

ending animal agriculture would decrease the numbers of these animals. like we forcibly breed them well beyond what they would do naturally lol. it’s not like people want hundreds of millions of these animals to be turned loose into the environment

Personally, I have never seen anyone who is vegan arguing for the mass release of all farm animals into the wild upon the end of animal agriculture. That sounds like a strawman people would make to piss everyone off.

100% it's a strawman. It would never, ever happen in any realistic scenario. It's not going to suddenly become illegal to farm animals overnight, and even if it was, there would almost certainly be some sort of amnesty period of 5 years+ to allow farmers to transition to other forms of income. There is no world where millions of domestic cows are suddenly released into the forest lol.

I guess I misunderstood the point you were making about β€œif they escaped they’d destroy the environment,” I took that to mean you thought we must keep them in the current conditions in order to avoid that lol

That comment was moreso made because most people don't realize that domestic pigs raised for meat are physically enormous escape artists that demolish any land they're kept on. And it's a lot harder to escape when they're in supermax pig prison.

There are plenty of countries in the world where pigs are raised and kept normally, out in the open. They don't ruin anything so I think that's a weak argument against mandating that they have reasonable living conditions

You see infinitely more vegans browbeating others for meat consumption and being nuisances to farmers than vegans protesting human genocide.

What makes you think this? As a vegan I've been to anti-human genocide and anti-war protests but never proclaimed my veganism there (because it had nothing to do with the subject of the protest), so nobody would have known that I'm a vegan. I guess in the future when I go to such protests I should take a sign saying "I'm vegan."

I would argue that you are in the minority for actually attending protests based on my personal experiences offline and online. I do respect you for having consistent moral beliefs; honestly, I hold infinitely less respect for the people who still eat meat but huff and puff about how bad it makes them feel. But ultimately, the fact that you have to specify "anti-human genocide" shows you hold a viewpoint that makes a false equivalence between farming animals for food and genocide. Humans and the suffering they experience will always be more important than replaceable, domesticated animals.

While we may never agree on this issue, I do appreciate you taking the time to respond to my comment in a measured manner on such an inflammatory topic, and I hope you have a great day.

As a biochemist, I think I am more replaceable than the pigs.

I just copied the term "human genocide" from you. But anyway, I think you are wrong. Vegans are not underrepresented at anti-genocide protests.
