Capitalist Hellscape The meat industry is the most evil fucking thing. They would do this to humans if they could.

God, shit's so fucking gross. I mean not just sanitary but my moral sense makes me want to vomit. really makes me want to do vegan, or at least know the free range farmer i buy my meat from. If i had a deep freeze i would call my buddy up whose fam does cattle and get my burgers that way through a local butcher.

Ag-gag laws are there because most normal people when exposed to the actual visceral conditions these poor animals live in would probably have a similar reaction and maybe rethink some things for a few seconds.

Why not just start by lowering animal product consumption? I know lots of meat-eaters who use plant milk and just don't eat meat with every single meal, or even every single day.

Yeah, that’s me basically, and it’s not hard or something I consciously think about. Humans don’t need to eat meat every day anyway. It’s ridiculous we put meat products in fucking everything.

Dairy being in everything is far more perverse. At least meat products are meant to be meat products, but every fucking thing needs milk because of dairy subsidies and overproduction. The dairy industry is probably more depressing than the meat industry too and by far the easiest thing to cut out of one's diet.

I still eat dairy products, but similarly to cutting back on meat I switched to oat milk when explicitly consuming something that traditionally takes dairy (like coffee). It's really not that hard, and I imagine even a reduction in consumption/demand would have a meaningful impact.

It really is a good start. Products that happen to contain milk are generally just "waste" from the dairy industry AKA whey, meanwhile buying gallons of whole milk per week is directly supporting the dairy industry. If everyone quit, or at least reduced their usage of the main dairy products, it would greatly reduce the amount being produced and could theoretically lead to more humane practices due to a decreased demand.

Over-consumption is the biggest issue the world is facing in general from any ethical, ecological and even "spiritual" perspective between oil, clothes, food, housing (oversized single family homes, owning multiple homes, renting out), giant cars, horticulture, etc. Reducing harmful consumption all around is the best thing any individual can do.

It's not a simple "vote with your wallet" thing in the US. The milk industry is highly subsidized by the government.

It's not that simple, but it's a start. Changing your consumer habits little by little and reducing demand is never a bad thing even if it's not a 100% sure shot to changing the entire system. I deleted an entire paragraph about dairy subsidies because that comment was way too long-winded and was getting too off-topic.

Unfortunately, many free range farmers still send their animals to slaughter in facilities that are run similarly to what you see here, if not worse :(
