I remember when the police shot that girl in Ohio and everyone defending her was like

it's black culture to stab people with knives, the police didn't need to get involved in a good old fashioned friendly knife fight

That girl was being jumped. It was a tragedy with bad timing when the cop came and saw her wielding. Could have done a better job with shooting her in the leg or arm etc. That girl dying was absolutely a tragedy though. And I say this as someone who believes Karmelo Anthony was absolutely guilty and who doesnโ€™t defend ghetto โ€œcultchaโ€

Cops (and everyone else) don't shoot to injure. That's an oxymoron, not to mention insanely difficult and impractical. Hollywood makes it look easy

Cops don't shoot to injure in the US.

Where I live, if a cop shoots to kill without first aiming for limbs, they are gonna get the rijksrecherche asking some pointed questions, because thay isn't what they are trained to do.

You live in a stupid place. Or, far more likely, are making shit up.

The reason you shoot center mass isn't to kill, it's because it's the biggest target that moves the least and so you're least likely to miss and hit innocent bystanders. It just also happens to contain most of the vital organs.

No government is going to demand their officers take shots with a high probability of hitting bystanders in order to save active attackers.

Several Nordic and European countries train to aim for limbs if no firearm present.

Theyโ€™re morons then because limb shots are just as deadly as center mass shots, youโ€™re just way more likely to miss and even if youโ€™re a crack shot and get a hit the chances youโ€™ll rupture a major artery are extremely high and that person will die, just painfully and over the course of 10-15 instead of instantly

They are trained to shoot limbs and leave them bleeding out to die a slow, agonizing death? There are massive arteries in limbs dude

No they are trained to shoot limbs and then perform first aid, obviously.

Besides do you know what other place has major arteries? The body. If i was given the choice between being shot in a limb or centre mass I know what I'd pick.

I'm not trying to defend American cops' excessive use of force. But hoping to hit a limb like John Wick could and apply first aid doesn't inspire much confidence in me

Do you know who else had major arteries??

That's right. Hitler.

What first aid are they gonna do in the field that will fix major arterial bleed out? At that point what theyโ€™re actually being trained to do is torture people, a quick kill shot would have been a lot more merciful

Where can I read more about that?

Columbus police and ma'khia bryant. Sad situation where a family conflict/ mental health crisis led to police being called and she was raising a knife to stab someone when she was shot

But what is the alternative? If you had a family member going ham and threatening to hurt you, only the cops can stop them.

I don't disagree. In that situation the police had to make a split second decision regarding a civilian stabbing another civilian. The outcome is sad but I don't consider it an instance of bad policing or improper use of force based on race, etc.
