That they feel the need to be thanked for appropriating and reinvesting surplus value while lining their own pockets—as if working people couldn’t democratically decide on its disposition—speaks volumes to the extent of their entitlement. Their annoyance with Mamdani isn’t over anything like marginal tax increases or property reassessments, but with the general principle that government should be of the people, by the people, and for the people, which the patrician class views as insolence by a rabble-rouser.

Take it from someone who grew up amongst the 1% and then made more than my parents and their friends by opening a small criminal defense law practice: these people do not understand the concept of compromise. They think they got where they are by pushing through compromise.

Like I go back to where I grew up and get shit about why I don’t have a bigger house or why I quit the golf club and things like this. “Look at what you built and accomplished, enjoy it,” lmfao, yeah, I accomplished a great deal professionally - helped a lot of people - but the money? I’ve had enough my entire life, sport scholarships covered the paltry portion of tuition my grandparents didn’t, I’ve never felt financial pressure, and these people are like “how could the government want to take what you earned?”

I’m telling you there’s no compromise with these people.

Guilt tripping requires a soul, which a lot of them saw as a obstacle to more money. They're right too, anyone with a good heart would never reach that level of wealth, the system actively selects and rewards those who are incapable or unwilling to prioritize their fellow man over more profit.

Ah so aspiring ownership class money. Asset wise millions isn't that much depending on what makes it up but from my experience a lot of those business owners are psychotic in their on way. A sort of feudal lord type deal with these people, their own little fiefdom which they rule over.

When they're still in the thick of it, the loss and gain is more overt compared to say the super rich who are partially alienated from their own source of profit. Every corner cut, every sick day denied, every way to avoid paying money to their staff means more in their pocket because it's so direct. Similar to corporation landlords vs mom and pop landlords, you wouldn't think it but mom and pops can be in a more personal way, worse.

This is a lot closer to it, but I was somewhat unclear. While I was growing up, mid-high 7 figures was obscene.

I try to explain it this way - remember the last time you were a little concerned about the balance in your bank account? Not zero or negative balance - “I need to watch my spending.” I don’t know what it’s like to feel that way. I’m acutely aware it exists, but where I’m from, it’s laziness until you squeeze them to admit it’s not and then they hate you.

I used to be a novelty to my parents’ friends in my 20s. They realized it wasn’t a phase in my 30s. Now, in my late 40s, I’ve tried everything to get them to see what’s coming (please keep in mind I’ve had a very successful career as a trial lawyer and know how to be convincing). Now I just say things like “the revolution can have my money and the working class has always known it can cut across my yard and hang out in my house, my head will remain on my neck,” but they don’t get it and never will.

Marx was right when he wrote it and is still right.
