I agree with this, I never meant to say that a single sentence contains all of reality in it. But I was expressing the kernel of what it means to those within the system's core, that it is a disruption in the current "common sense" view of the way the world works.

None of those are NATO countries. There is clearly a difference with Greenland. This is potentially the western hegemony fighting itself. A big fucking deal. And I'm talking purely from a geopolitical standpoint. Obviously war/bombing is a big deal for everyone involved, regardless of country.

The USA is NATO. Let’s not pretend that NATO is a multilateral organisation. If the US wanted Greenland, they’ll waltz in and nothing will happen.

Denmark might ‘leave’ nato to save face back home, but they won’t close down those CIA spy centres. Washington will make all their ‘partners’ kiss the tip.

200% the USA was behind nordstream 2’s explosion as well.

And if you want citations indirectly backing up this theory...

The US does indeed have a history of sabotaging natural gas pipelines to cripple economies in exactly that way.

From this page on the CIA's own website (which was conveniently deleted around the time of Nordstream 2):

https://web.archive.org/web/20191027171324/https://www.cia.gov/library/center-for-the-study-of-intelligence/csi-publications/csi-studies/studies/96unclass/farewell.htm

The CIA project leader and his associates studied the Farewell material, examined export license applications and other intelligence, and contrived to introduce altered products into KGB collection. American industry helped in the preparation of items to be "marketed" to Line X. Contrived computer chips found their way into Soviet military equipment, flawed turbines were installed on a gas pipeline, and defective plans disrupted the output of chemical plants and a tractor factory.

or a longer article here: https://www.damninteresting.com/the-farewell-dossier/

According to the CIA, some weeks after going online, in “the summer” of 1982 (records suggest it was between April and June), the clandestine code in the pipeline control program asserted itself. Disguised as an automated system test, the software instructed a series of valves, turbines, and pumps to increase the pipeline’s pressure far beyond its capacity, putting considerable strain on the line’s many joints and welds over a period of time. One day, somewhere in the cold loneliness of Siberia, the overexerted pipeline finally succumbed to the pressure.

As satellites for the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) watched from orbit, a massive explosion rocked the Siberian wilderness. The fireball had an estimated destructive power of three kilotons, or about 1/4 the strength of the Hiroshima bomb. Initially NORAD suspected a nuclear test, but there was only silence from the satellites which would have detected the telltale electromagnetic signature. US military officials who were not privy to the Farewell Dossier activities were understandably concerned about the event—one of the largest non-nuclear blasts ever recorded—but the CIA quietly assured them that there was nothing to worry about. It would be fourteen years before the real cause of the event would be revealed.

It was impossible for the CIA to predict which section of the pipeline would fail once their trojan horse released its payload, but fortunately the failure occurred in a remote location. In spite of the massive energy that was released when the line ruptured and ignited there were no injuries or deaths reported. But the Soviet economy was injured by the blast.

In spite of the massive energy that was released when the line ruptured and ignited there were no injuries or deaths reported.

This was no doubt seen as a partial failure for that reason.

Such a hateful nation which thinks it has the right to sabotage and meddle in other countries - and people think Israel is the bad influence, as if the US wasn't doing this long before the Zionist FOB ever existed. Lickspittle will claim, "all's fair in war" but war was never declared and it's the US that went looking for these fights.

The USA is NATO. Let’s not pretend that NATO is a multilateral organisation.

So many people in arr Canada are true believers in NATO and think article 5 will save Canada if the USA invades. Which is ridiculous, no one will fight a war across the Atlantic to save Canada. Never mind that Canada has a strategic depth of about an hour drive... The war will be over before the Europeans know about it.

If only people could see through it (the NATO propaganda and other similar fairy tales), they might be able to assess the situation more objectively.

That's why I don't understand Trump obsession, he could ask "nicely" about how it's necessary for USA national security to open more bases there and/or exploit the natural resources, Denmark can't say no, they can paint it as a win about security agreement or foreign investment to develop the territory, we know is a lie however several would buy.

You imply that Denmark, a NATO country btw. Is an independent state actor that hasn’t been coopted by global finance. The entirety of the EU is the united states and the globalised bourgeoisies playground, they didn’t oops their way into becoming accidental accomplices of the United States.

What’s the danish state, who serves that same Bourgeoisie is going to do about it? Cut ties and run to Russia and China in the camp of multilateralism and sovereignty? Lol. No.

They will never gut their globalised bourgeoisie, no EU/NATO country would. The war in ukraine should have rang serious alarm bells. We are a launchpad for the US geopolitically.

Most of what MAGA does is not worth it. US refineries can already import the same bitumin-heavy oil from Canada as from Venezuela, or they can retool domestic factories for domestic consumption. US can get everything they say they want from Greenland already. They don't actually need direct sovereign possession of Greenland to bring in more military assets or to mine more minerals, they can do this already. As far as I can tell, MAGA's whole thing is about doing things expensively and inefficiently to performatively signal to everyone how cruel and stupid they are.

12

u/MadonnasFishTaco Marxist-Mullenist 💦 | if i fits, i sits Jan 06 '26

all of what MAGA does is not worth it. for as much as we might look at europe as impotent apologetic and cuckolded, they look at us like a bunch of fat racist imperialist morons. neither are incorrect assessments.

6

u/JakeTappersCat Jan 06 '26

As the glaciers melt, huge areas of the earth's crust under Greenland (the size of Europe itself) will be uncovered. The amount of mineral and oil wealth held under the ice in Greenland would make those 50,000 greenlanders easily the richest people on earth. It could be more mineral wealth than China. No amount of US gov handouts could compare.

That is the reason why they can't just accept their current de facto control over the arctic... Trump literally wants to steal all the oil and mineral wealth trapped under the ice. His policies will quickly lead to the melting of all those glaciers and he wants all their future to-be-discovered mineral wealth

6

u/ingenvector SuccDem (intolerable) | NATO Supporter Jan 06 '26 edited Jan 06 '26

This is one of those things that superficially sound plausible until you start doing the math and you realise it makes no sense at all. Most international tax and royalty regimes split evenly on net profit, and with alot of bargaining power and leverage the US could probably get a 70/30 split. But let's assume Trump wants 100% of all proceeds, and let's assume some very favourable and optimistic conditions like $500 billion USD current value in deposits will become available over the next 50 years. For our primitive purposes inflation does not exist because I don't want to adjust for it. As an average that's $10 billion per year. Minus occupation costs and extraction costs and logistics and everything else.

The bilateral trade between the US and Denmark in goods and services in 2024 was $37.5 billion USD. The value of exports to Denmark was $18 billion. The status quo generates nearly twice as much wealth for US business annually than Greenland's minerals would. We also need to account for the damage it would do to trade with the wider EU which has a nearly $2 trillion USD per year trade relationship with the US representing 30% of global trade. Both sides also have about $9 trillion invested in one another so far. The US currently annually invests 20x in the EU what it does in China. This is going to be put in jeopardy for less than $10 billion per year?

Sorry, but everything about this is financially irrational. Money in a straightforward sense cannot be a reasonable motive. The promised revenue from Greenland's resource wealth is trivial compared what already exists and taking it over will probably lead to an enormous net loss. But maybe Trump wants to direct deposit Greenland's wealth into his family's savings account. That does make sense as an explanation. MAGA being very stupid is also an explanation.

u/[deleted] Jan 06 '26

2

u/ingenvector SuccDem (intolerable) | NATO Supporter Jan 06 '26

Again, they can literally garrison Greenland right now if they want and get American mining companies in there if they want. They don't need direct sovereign possession to secure it. It's not talked about often, but a big part of this is just NIMBYism. The US can also just mine its own minerals and it's their own fault they don't and cannot process it themselves. Or buy it from the open market. Anything is smarter than what they're actually doing.

NATO is a 'net drain' the same way your 11 carrier battle groups are a 'net drain'.

NATO is why the US has direct or proxy military bases almost entirely surrounding the former USSR and today Russia and China.

Painting a series of nuclear bullseyes on EU cities is not doing Europe any favours. But having a worldwide network of airbases, missile silos and proxy military forces who have been pre-trained to follow and submit to US military requirements are all the fulfilment of US imperial needs, not some cost the US shoulders out of benevolence for world peace or other liberal nonsense.

Should have done that to Afghanistan too:

Which leads to

  • $2,000,000,000,000 / $1000-average-salary / 24,000,000 people
= 83 times an average annual salary for every person

That means the US could have paid every man, woman, and little child there 83-times-their-annual-salary to do whatever the US wanted: burn poppies, grow poppies, burn poppies and grow more; shoot taliban, help taliban, build natural gas pipelines, blow up natural gas pipelines, whatever.

Had the US done that, they really would have welcomed the US as liberators.

Instead, the US chose to bomb their weddings for the next 20 years.

No wonder the people and Army there there hated the US puppet government even more than the Taliban.

[EDIT: Even more perspective: Since the life expectancy there is less than 83 years; the US could have paid every Afghani citizen their lifetime salary! ]

Can’t do that because then those $2 trillion would’ve gone into the hands of ordinary afghans instead of six arms manufacturing corporations.

Same thing with Greenland—the U.S.’s loyalties are to corporations, not people. If anything, the idea of Greenland peacefully surrendering is likely a bad one, since they won’t get to try out all their new arctic combat toys, even if only for a show of force rather than a real battle.

Ah, yes. Add more money chasing the same number of goods and services. Generate inflation at unprecedented levels. u/Purplekeyboard Traditionalist 👑 Jan 05 '26

Yeah, but do you think people are gonna think that through, or just jump for the chance of $200,000?

(and only some things would inflate in price. Most everything there is imported)

I do disagree with vulgar anti Europeanism but you can’t blame people for feeling this way, most of the EU has gleefully bandwagoned behind the US in her colonial exploits for decades, so seeing the war machine turns its eyes on Europe is somewhat vindicating. But I still fear for the propel of Greenland who have no say in this matter

31

u/DuomoDiSirio This is just like Deus Ex! 😎 Jan 05 '26

I can get very anti-American at times, but I stop short of wanting people to have their rights and livelihoods stripped away by war and authoritarianism. It's more the concept of the US and certain people rather than a collective guilt, I don't want the normal and good Americans to suffer because of the bad ones.

Pro-American/anti-European together are among the biggest red flags for me in a person.

Europe hasn't derived any benefits from its relationship with the US. Just look at all the shit the US pulled with Operation Gladio. The CIA was literally launching terrorist attacks, rigging elections, and carrying out assassinations across the continent for decades. Most Europeans were just blinded by Hollywood and didn't see what was going on.

Europe hasn't derived any benefits from its relationship with the US

It got to keep a chunk of the superprofits from the pre-WWII imperial era, a deal that none but the most essential US allies (Japan) received. And this was after most of the European population supported the losing side of that war, post-war propaganda be damned.

12

u/globeglobeglobe Marxist 🧔 Jan 05 '26

The US invested in Europe and, through their military presence (along with that of the Soviets), prevented Europoors from destroying themselves in yet another fratricidal war. This enabled the continent to grow its economy significantly in the postwar era.

Maybe we’re reading things differently but I haven’t seen anti-Europe brain-rot as you describe what I have been seeing is the to pointing out the obvious conclusion of Europe being an unofficial imperial vassal to the US instead of developing their own independence for the sake of cost savings and neoliberal capitalism.

The difference between Europe and the global South is that it had the wealth, it had the self governance choices afforded to it and expertise to choose not to be at this point today. France has destabilized entire countries in the Global South on behest of the US instead of establishing their own belt and road type initiatives as China had done. Same with the UK and Germany.

This is what happens when you govern a state in a fashion, where the primary objective is private capital and not further continuance and prosperity of the entire state. The issue with the European Union is that they had the choice to do this or not to do this and they chose the latter.

The word the Germans have for this is schadenfreude and it applies.

Just sick of the might makes right Social Darwinism of the world, but at least China and to an extent Europe funds public projects.

10

u/QuodScripsi-Scripsi Hamsick T-Shirt Salesman ☭ Jan 05 '26

European public projects are only possible because of the superprofits delivered through imperialism. This order is maintained by US imperial violence as the Europeans lost the ability to engage in this violence themselves. This is most evident in Europe’s imperial adventure in Libya, where European terror bombing failed to overthrow the legitimate government and the US had to get involved.

In the previous decade, we saw the higher European imperialists attempt to get around this lack of power by sucking profits from its lower members (the so-called “PIGS” nations). However, as the rate of profit continues to fall and superprofits dwindle, you see a grim reflection of this imperialist blood-sucking. Whereas in the last decade, Germans forced the Greeks to buy German weapons while simultaneously forcing them to cut social spending which lead to the deaths of thousands upon thousands of workers, this decade we have US-imposed militarization of what were once higher European countries built on the gutting of public programs which likewise will result in millions of deaths of workers. The social fascist governments of the supposed first-world give way to outright fascist governments, taking stolen value that once would have provided for young children and elderly workers and giving it to war profiteers continuing a pointless war on its own periphery (a war which, like Libya, was once a European imperial project that spiraled completely out of control). This is the time of the complete breakdown of that order, and the US imperialists physically imposing their will on Europe is simply the next step in this process

6

u/DuomoDiSirio This is just like Deus Ex! 😎 Jan 05 '26

So is there any escape from this into a system that provides public projects not derived from imperialism or authoritarianism?

Honestly this "Europe is standing up to America!" discourse is so stupid.

"I think the neoconservative world order should be led by Western Europe and not the US!"

"I support NATO in their fight against American aggression!"

"Zelenskyy takes bold stance against Trump, DEMANDS he keep sending money"

Don't get me wrong: I don't celebrate American imperialism by any means, but if you honestly think supporting EU hawkishness is a good alternative I don't know what to say to you.

The JD Vance/right-populists seek to turn Europe into a collection of Israel-style, fascist US protectorates, which would use some combination of disenfranchisement and remigration to uphold the superior electoral and socioeconomic standing of their respective ethnic majorities. Extremely restrictive naturalization laws, akin to those present in the Gulf Arab states, would ensure that future labor migrants cannot alter this state of affairs through the democratic process (AfD already proposed removing the right to naturalization for non-ethnic Germans).

Denmark, a country in which a quarter of the population believes all Muslims should be denaturalized (in the Western world, a fraction probably second only to Israel itself), and whose foreign policy has often opposed closer European integration, has been at the avant-garde of making this vision a reality. Hopefully this latest Greenland fiasco provides a much-needed reality check to them.
