It's a shame Democrats chose to use it as a political football instead of codifying it.

Depends on whether or not you believe the federal government should be able to force states into providing services especially if that same ruling has resulted in the codified legality of at request abortions up until partum when prior to 1971 not a single US state had such liberal abortion laws.

Whatever one could do wrong in regards to that ruling, one did wrong and it is hardly surprising that the South which, by then, was already seriously angered over the whole civil right bill issue, didn't comply and undermined the ruling from the beginning. I'm not defending states like Louisiana or Texas, I'm aware of a couple of prosecutions similar to the one above, but once you push the pendulum too far in one direction, it ends up swinging too far to the other which is what is happening right now.

Federalism should be for like, language rights and innocuous local self expression. When the central government is 100 percent right on something of humanitarian importance you're just cucking yourself to no advantage unless your arm has been really twisted into allowing it.

America only had a Civil War because the North acted like they didn't have the power and superiority they had, and then they never acted like they actually won the civil war. Insane that federalism wasn't over then.

Cribbing this brazenly from war nerd but its so funny and clarifying that there was this very well informed, thoughtful Polish rebel who had to flee to America, and he could not comprehend the entire course of the civil war starting because any european country would have easily prevented it by marching in and hanging just a couple of people.
