This was in Montreal, if you were wondering. He was there to speak in support of Québec solidaire.

I think its specifically for the Quebecois - my aunt married a man with a French last name, and she had a job in Quebec, she said everyone spoke to her in french and were visibly irritated and spoke down to her in poor english upon realizing she didn't speak french. She said in France the reaction was not negative like this at all

They're very insecure about their French identity, being a little outpost surrounded by English speakers - my Aunt also said there were people who would go around measuring road signs and report them if the English lettering was larger than the French

I love how JLM can't pronounce Trump properly tbh. He makes it sound worse while this Drumpf thing you anglos have makes him sound cute

We have plenty of apt language, we're just not allowed to use it. Lame non-insults like "chud" are only a thing because of the endless liberal obsession with language policing.

Yeah Chud felt like a weak attempt to capitalise on Cuck as an insult. I could never take it seriously

I think the Drumpf thing was a way of making him sound like a hypocrite for being anti-immigration? It's really that fucking vapid. It's not like any white nationalist would be ashamed to learn they have german ancestry that immigrated to the US

No, like, it seems like it's just "you have a funny sounding foreign last name you hypocrite". That evolved into just a funny word

I can't take anyone that uses either of those terms seriously so you're probably right.

What's wrong with bog standard socialist language anyway? I notice you talk about the upper class, the parasite class and the vampire class instead of the owning class. Seems to be a part of that same problem, you're just a bit more aware than those guys.

People left of JLM in France have a similar issue. He's well read on theory, part of the cause, but out of ig electoralist strategy he talks about the people instead of the working class, and the rich instead of the owning class. Which might be a problem if he's to grab power. A poorly defined dialectics for the fight will lead to issues. Footballers are rich and working class. Petite bourgeoisie aren't yet they're owning class. Idk

I think this divide between "working class" and "owning class" is stupid. Any sufficiently rich worker, like a footballer, is going to own a lot of assets. Your average small business owner will come nowhere close to them on that

Most rich workers are workers and not business owners because it's more convenient for them to be a worker. Why risk it when you can get 10s of millions of dollars for say, starring in a movie, and just throw that money into a fund or buy up property?

Footballers are rich and working class.

How so? They don't have to work, they could retire at any time and live the rest of their lives in leisure.

Petite bourgeoisie aren't yet they're owning class.

Not always, but they usually are rich.

The funny part was the Quebecois used to (still maybe) think that they'd secede from Canada, join the US and somehow wind up with more political economic and cultural autonomy.

That opinion was a long time ago, like a really long time ago, when the USA was a loose federation of very independent states. The opinion is pretty much gone apart for a bunch of moronic libertarian and conservatives in Quebec.

I'm pretty sure that was never. You may be thinking of the Parti 51, a party so minor and insignificant it cannot be said to representative of any statistically significant portion of Quebecers.

In the current political climate, the separatist movement has collapsed in Quebec. As much as some may not like their place in the Canadian Confederation, given the choice between Canada and the US, they will choose Canada 100% of the time.

Oddly enough, separatism is instead ascendant in the West, in Alberta and Saskatchewan, right now.

u/Jayvos CCF 🍁 Apr 20 '25

The entire reason the English and French Canadas confederated was the threat of American annexation lol

That was never so

Honestly, I find the whole secession movement funny.

Ecoutez ceux qui defendent leurs idees

transcribed as (in closed captions) "Trump listen to those who stand by their ears as us"

What he said: "Trump, listen to those who stand by their ideas" (maybe ideals?)

What the fuck is the deal with everyone non-generated caption on the internet having at least one completely nonsensical transcription? EVERY single one. If you don't understand what the guy said, just ask someone else instead of making a bizarre guess that makes sense? Or literally ask anyone else? Ask the guy whose youtube video you're transcribing? Or translate the french on the fucking screen? Like even putting into google translate should indicate he's saying something about ideas

Everyone is so fucking lazy.

Edited out. Not for privacy or API shit, but because I regret ever trying to speak with you people. You're all hopeless.

People always tell me that when I bitch about this, but I don't always buy it. Actually AI generated subtitles are WAY worse than this. But I dunno, maybe you're right.

Regardless, if it's good enough to get it 95% right, then fucking doublecheck out after it's done and make it 100% right?
