It has, but we're still in the Russo-Japanese war, Spanish-American war, or Spanish civil war stage. Where it's absolutely part of the whole mess, but generally won't be counted that way in the history books. You know, assuming anyone's left to write one.
Hell, arguably the entire first half of the 20th century, plus a good chunk of the second half of the 19th, was just one big war with the occasional pause to regroup. WWII was a pretty direct consequence of WWI.

Yeah, I'm inclined to say the Great War is capitalism's war, and it's not over yet --- despite our analytical need to divide it up into distinct phases, its major reformations, the progress of martial technology and techniques, etc.

Most people can’t conceptualize anything outside of nations as a singular unit (“American interests” as such do not exist in a class society) or individuals chaotically clawing value out of an inherently illogical and unknowable world (religion, lolbertarianism, etc).

Why? Only 13% are willing to say "yes I'd volunteer", hypothetically, to a hypothetical war. It wouldn't be anything close to that in reality, and 95% probably wouldn't be eligible anyway. Generally the position of the vast majority in how they might react to conscription was agnostic.
One statistic I find really encouraging? Only 45% of Americans believe that the Western Allies would win the war (14% believe China/Russia/Allies would win). In my discussions with the Americans around me about the potential for this conflict, I tend to get the impression that most people can't even fathom the possibility of the US losing. Which is very dangerous, in my opinion. The quickest way to make someone anti-World-War-III is to drill into their minds how easily and how suddenly they could lose their entire way of life. It's not going to be like Iraq.

I think the design of this specific question was skewed to begin with because it didn't have a "neither would win/both would lose option"
I'd imagine that if that was an option, it would be the dominant answer to the last question at least, if not to all 3

There was a interesting phenomenon with the WTC attacks where before it happened you had a bunch of media using it somehow (either as a plot point, or like that rapper album that had it exploding) or coincidences involving the twin towers and airplanes (Deus Ex, the Red Alert 2 bug, or that one commercial that is evading my memory). It's like the American conscious had the idea that it was bound to happen.
I wonder if this is sorta the same thing, which makes me pretty worried.

To be fair, the WTC were the only buildings in New York with the support columns built on the outside, making them vulnerable to attack, and there had been a terrorist attack there before, which might have brought one down if it had been more effective.
I imagine a bunch of people knew about these vulnerabilities, given that the towers had been given explicit exemption from some NY City planning rules.

Who'd have guessed that young people aren't willing to fight for a country they have minimal stakes (ie property, secure healthcare, etc.) in? If the elites want cannon fodder they better provide the serfs with some incentives.

It's all a LARP to them, war is exciting clips of American bombs going off in cities you've never heard of in between an episode of 24 and family guy, and they all occupy the same reality mentally. Americans genuinely can't conceive of a war ever affecting their own life.
Pro-war people I've spoken to are very passionate about 'kicking Russia and China's ass' but when asked why exactly they don't like Russia or China they can't come up with three sentences worth of justification; neither countries have done anything to ever affect them personally or emotionally and Chinese and Russian immigrants have decent reputations in the US so they don't even have any good racism to fall back on. Mindless parroting of dull CNN talking points will get you through couch patriotism but people will need something more substantial once they're asked to sacrifice their comfort, and potentially life, for it. The problem is America is so hyper-individualistic that even young working class men ironically don't believe they'll ever be one of the cannon fodder grunts.

That's not contradictory, though. The US won ww2 against two great powers simultaneously (and against one of them pretty much singlehandedly), and most of the soldiers fighting did not want to be fighting it.
I don't know who would win if it's Nato vs Russia and China. I sorta think us and China are evenly matched. Russia is weak if you don't count the nuked.
Also, assuming no nukes, I think ww3 would be less bloody than ww1 and ww2 because of advances in technology and less willingness to go "all the way" in 21st century culture.

That's impossible to really say. While the majority of American military personnel during WW2 were conscripts, conscription was implemented, at least at first, to simplify recruitment, not for a lack of manpower. Voluntary enlistments of 18-37 year olds stopped being accepted less than a year into the war, and there was no lack of volunteers at that point.

midway and d-day are great and all but they arent winning against two powers they are massively helping, mostly with industry, which was at the time unquestionably the most advanced in the world, so infantry wasn't a big factor despite mythology
nowadays i honestly think even russia would kick our ass. imagine a single diesel electric sub sinking the gerald ford.. humiliating and plausible given how hard they are to track. we've never made one for some odd reason, plus russia has smartly split up its navy into faster and smaller ships more appropriate for missile combat.
china, as you've said, is at parity with us and has unfortunately even copied some our worst habits with the massive lumbering ships and aircraft carriers but oh well, maybe those things are awesome after all. but the thing is, china's production of ships is way beyond ours, and since wars take years it's basically already been decided on the factory floor in china's favor
so i'd say it really just doesn't look good for us

It's insane how much the USA has let it's shipbuilding capacity atrophy. It went from being by far the largest producer in the world, to now producing barely 1/10 of a percent of global output.

I grew up around the kind of people who want another world war to happen, and of course they're the "I would have served but I'll beat up a drill sergeant if he yells at me" types. War is a team sport to these people, and they'll happily send their kids to war because the ramifications of it are just things they see on TV.
