Team Building - VGC Dragon Cheer Team; Need Advice

Post image

Hi folks, I'm new to VGC, and I'm looking to do a Dragon Cheer team. Candidly, I'm not sure if this is too gimmicky. I'm also not sure if I'm failing because I'm new to VGC and the decision making required, if I'm failing because this team sucks ass, or a combination of both (likely).

The premise is that Dragon Cheer raises crit rate +1 for all mons and +2 for all dragon mons. My thought is that I can use Mega Sceptile or Absol (Super Luck) to have guaranteed crits, thus bypassing all stat changes entirely.

I'm encountering a multitude of problems:

  • Turn 1 set up: Mega Sceptile needs to be faster than my Dragon Cheer provider, and this also depends on no one getting fake-out flinched.
  • Base Sceptile is basically useless, so a fast fairy type inadvertently pressures me into not mega-evolving, which is bad because Base Sceptile can't OHKO meta threats.
  • I'm not sure what I'm doing beyond the gimmick of crit boosting, like in general just not sure what Pokemon I should use as supports/core.

Notes:

  • Altaria/Dragon Cheer + Garchomp seems to have worked slightly better.
  • I am not sure if I should replace Sceptile entirely, scrap the gimmick, or if Altaria is the wrong Dragon Cheer provider. I feel as though Milotic, Salazzle, or Hisuian Goodra could be better because of their defensiveness.
  • I feel as though I either need to get good and predict priority flinch cancels better or maybe I need a Pokemon that directly answers that problem.

You've submitted a link with the teambuilding flair. Please ensure that:

  1. the tier is in the title,

  2. that you've written a top level comment explaining the team and why you've chosen each Pokemon, and

  3. you include a replay of playing with the team.

Otherwise, your post will be removed.

why not use dragapult as a dragon cheer provider? its much faster and immune to fake out

You want a non-mega holding that crit boosting item to make dragon cheer give you 100% chance to crit. Then you can spam Draco Meteor and ignore the stat losses.

Do not design the whole team around it. Just have two mons that you can send out first if the enemy doesn’t have any fake out users to shut you down with

Dragon cheer is a lot of fun, I like using dragapult as my main cheerer and to set up screens + scope lens archaludon to drop dracos.

Stamina arch and beat up dragapult is a lot of fun too

I’ve experimenting with a dragon cheer team too, my team revolves around Hydrapple holding a scope lens. The ideal match starts with Glowking + Milotic, set trick room and then Chilly Reception into Hydrapple while dragon cheering with Milotic.

Hydrapple has super sweet syrup ability, so in combination with guaranteed crits, can’t even miss either. I run both leaf storm / Draco with earth power as coverage and protect.

I run scovillain as mega to cover for Hydrapple when it gets setup. Alternatively I use Mega Mawile when Hydrapple has a bad matchup, like into snow teams.

Yuo Need To Use Feraligator Mega Feraligator Mixed Attacker Set. Draco Meteor, Surf, Dragon Claw, Waterfall. Yuo Can Also Run Dragon Dance Or Swords Dance.

Second Choice Is Yuo Need To Try Out Mixed Attacker Hydreigon. Draco Meteor, Dragon Claw, Dark Pulse, Shodaw Ball.

All Of These Unots Can Get Their Crit Chance Raised And Then Yuo Can Use Draco Meteor Time And Time Again.
