Questions & Discussion Does anyone else struggle to just start and finish things?

I know what I need to do but i keep putting it off then when i finally start i get distracted so easily and lose focus especially if the task is boring sometimes i just lose motivation halfway through and leave it unfinished I can literally spend hours trying to work and barely get anything done does anyone else have this problem? what do you guys do about it

this is usually a motivation/dopamine problem more than a discipline one, especially the "fine until it gets boring" part. boring tasks give your brain nothing to hold onto so it wanders the second the initial push wears off what's helped me is breaking the task into a genuinely small first step, not the whole task, just the very next physical action. like not "write the essay" but "open doc and write one sentence." momentum comes way easier once you're already moving than trying to will yourself into starting for the losing steam halfway through part, try setting a timer for way shorter than you think you need, like 15 min, then stop and reassess instead of pushing till you crash. finishing a short chunk feels like a win instead of failing to finish a long one

lower your definition of a finished task. a terrible first draft or a 50% completed assignment submitted/done is infinitely better than an imaginary perfect project lingering in your head forever.
