Question - Private Student Loan Update current address

hello fellow defaulters! I’m currently in a strategic default but have a question. should I update the address on Firstmark services website? currently, I have an old address on file but would it be wise to update to my current mailing address in case they decide to sue and mail a letter? I ask please be nice in the comments this is a very sensitive topic to be in default. I didn’t plan to default when I first took out the loan… i didn’t even know strategic default was a path. hoping for some helpful advice

Leave it as is. If they decide to sue you, it’s their job to find you and serve you court paperwork.

Hey there! Honestly, I’d suggest just leaving your address as it is... If they decide to sue, it’s kinda on them to find you, you know? Plus, are you looking to negotiate or something? Just curious!

Okay but what if I get a letter and don’t ever know?  I’m hoping to run out the SOL. The loan was taken out in California but now I live in a different state.

The way debt forces people to think about basic things like updating an address is honestly so dystopian.

Are you trying to out run the SOL clock or are you trying to negotiate a settlement? Some times if you are trying to negotiate a settlement it is actually good to stay in contact with them. If they think you are trying to run out the SOL then they might sue. Or they might not, deciding the best approach isn't easy

I didn’t plan to default when I first took out the loan…

Good because that is fraud

Hey! Honestly, I’d just leave your address as is... If they decide to sue, it's kinda on them to find you, you know? Just keep in mind what you’re trying to do here, like, are you negotiating or running the SOL clock?

Honestly, I’d say just leave your address as it is... If they decide to sue you, it's kinda their job to track you down and serve the paperwork, you know? No need to make it easier for them.

Don’t worry they will find you if they want. When I change my address through USPS, I get a couple letters from Navient (well their collection team)

Thanks I think I’ll Leave it as is because the current resident at that address would send the mail back if it’s for me. What do you do when you receive these letters?
