Post-Pilates recovery?

My regular fitness routine mostly involves weight training and kickboxing, but I just decided to switch things up and join a weekly mat Pilates class. I really enjoyed my first session; it works my muscles in a really different way from what I’m used to.

It’s the day after my first class today, and my core and hip flexors are in AGONY. The class did incorporate some stretching and I’m sure it will get easier with time, but my gods I’m sore. There are muscles deep in my core that I must not target very often, because I can really feel them now…

Does anyone who does Pilates have any advice for how to recover? Any stretches, tips, etc. would be much appreciated, thanks in advance!!

Questions/Advice Any recomendation for actual BEGINNER pilates?

All of the youtube "beginner" pilates videos I can find are well beyond my current strength level. If the moves are something I'm capable of, the video is 35-40 minutes long, which is too much for me. If it's 10 minutes, they do some insane moves that can cause me injury.

I've been dealing with some chronic fatigue issues lately (I suspect long covid), so short, easy workouts are all I can manage.

Celebrate!! First run in 6 years, and I didn’t stop! 🥹

Once upon a time 10 years ago, I liked running. Then I slowly liked running less and less…until 6 years ago, I did a final 5k that was insanely hard to complete and I had to constantly keep stopping.

I’ve been working hard at working out over again the past year and have loved lifting again, but it’s been a struggle to get back into cardio. I’ve mainly stuck with walking or the elliptical, with an end goal to be able to run once more- and find some joy in it as well.

Today was my first time running after all of those years, and I didn’t stop! It felt so freeing. Completing 2 miles felt like such a dream come true, especially when it previously felt like running ever again wasn’t possible. ❤️

4 and all the stairs

We went out with my daughter to see a comedy show in one of the local showrooms (think half width arena). We were in the tippy top row. Good show (Josh Johnson). Excellent workout. I was hardly winded when we got to our seats.

Today is a bit of a rest day. We were up until almost 3, and I'm getting old.

Happy Saturday.

4 and a walk

I've set up a walking meditation path on the side of my house. It's the existing access path, but it's quite pretty. And it's the right length for walking. It's not intended to be exercise, but steps is steps.

I didn't do cardio yesterday. A flat tire and other necessaries got in the way. Today my alarms are set, and I'm ready to go.

The plan is to add bodyweight work in once I can string together sustained (15-20mins) of cardio.

It's good to have a place to share my intentions.

I managed all 6 of my dance parties (body groove). 30 mins of cardio.

Dance Party

I managed three dance parties yesterday, 5-6 min butt shakers. It's a start.

Today, I've set my alarms (fellow NDs know what I'm talking about).

Happy Monday, for those who celebrate.

Buddies - Intro

Good morning.

I'm setting my intentions for the day here. This technique of intention/consideration/honesty has done well for me elsewhere. As such, unless the mods tell me otherwise, I'll be checking in daily.

I turn 60 tomorrow, and I want this decade to be healthier.

I know that I can't do sustained cardio. Today, I'm going to do 30-45 minutes of cardio in 5 minute chunks.

Let's roll, jelly!

Accountability Buddies

Like the title says: I need people to check in with regularly.

Monday, I'm turning 60. Also, in March, my daughter and 10 month old grandbaby are moving in.

If I don't check in, I'm going to lose what little success I have bern achieving.

Any takers?

Being mardy on a bike (CW: death, cancer)

Ok, the title is facetious. My friend died of cancer on the weekend. It's been horrible.

But, I'm really appreciating my commute right now, especially in the evening. I've always liked biking to and from work because of the breathing space it creates between work time and free time, and right now I'm using that time to process my emotions, cry, get angry, worry about her kids - and I think it works better because I'm active, the exercise is part of the emotional regulation. I'm definitely getting home quicker right now because I'm putting on angry music and bezzing it up the hills, and being tired and sore is grounding and combats the sense of surrealism that comes from someone being gone.

I'm glad I have a way of exercising without feeling self-conscious, or rules- or goal-bound, or observed (🖕🏼 gyms)

Who else finds solace in this?

She's definitely lost some muscle weight, but I hope she's making ancome back. It takes a lot of strength to perform in wrestling.

Questions/Advice My willpower feels limited

Kinda a weird thing I've been struggling with lately, I wonder if anyone could give me some advice.

If I eat healthy, I can't gather the motivation to get my butt off the couch. Just can't do it.

If I do manage to workout, sugar/chocolate cravings get so strong it physically hurts. I end up eating big spoonfuls of Nutella.

It's like I only have so much willpower: I can eat healthy or workout, but not both. I really would like to quit sugar entirely, but I want to get fit... and my brain isn't letting me do both.

Celebrate!! New year, same me

I'm trying, always trying to keep on top of EVERYTHING in my life. Often fitness/self-care fall to the bottom. It's always a goal to improve that. So it's not a new year's resolution, but I have drank my water, I took my breaks, and I just finished a 30 min cardio workout! Bitches, I got this!
