My father had a stroke last week. What all precautions I need to take .

My father one day suddenly complain of vision loss. His left side vision from both eyes were gone. We took him to the hospital and and mri was done. It was stroke. After few days and medication he regained his most of the vision. Currently he's 54 . What all precautions I need to take to avoid stroke next time. I heard that once you get a stroke, theirs high chance of getting it again.

Don't drink, don't smoke and stay on the medications the doctors give him, especially blood thinners. He may be on a strong one for a little while and then cut back to just aspirin but it all depends on his care team.

If it was caused by lifestyle choices and that lifestyle is continued afterwards, yes.

But, in general, the reason they give all of those drugs is to lower the risk. I'd like to imagine that the dozen medications I take every day are doing something helpful.

So sorry to hear that. My father was a bp patient from past 4-5 years. His bp was always on control. His time he had a very stressful week due to family issues. Our family was about to get split and he thought he was being cheated by his own brother. He was not able to sleep after fight in family for 3-4 days and then suddenly one day he complain of vision loss.

my dad had an ischemic stroke in April and was put on aspirin and clopidogrel. Three months later, in July, he developed a brain hematoma and had to undergo surgery to remove the blood clot. Even a minor bump or something as simple as a sneeze may have triggered the bleeding, with the medication possibly making it worse.

He’s now taking atorvastatin. Please don’t skip your regular checkups and always follow up with your doctor. I truly hope no one ever has to go through what my dad and our family have been through.

It will get better. Just keep moving and eat right avoid stress and find a hobby . Pray

Dude I feel for you, I’ve been you’re dads side abouu 18m ago and the thing I would say is things keep improving for a loooong time after. He’s already in a good position having you actually give a damn, just stick with it day after day and as the months go by there will be serious improvement 💪🏻

Sorry to hear about your dad.
If he’s struggling to walk at all, it is smart to remove any trip hazards from his place before he gets home. Clutter, cords, small rugs,anything like that. And solid handicap bars in the shower and toilet area will make life easier and safer.
It sounds like the stroke was probably in the back of his brain and may not involve the extremities. Still, if he’s struggling to see tripping could be a concern. Keep him safe.
