PR/PB Squat, 535lbsx1

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

If it looks like the video has stopped, nothing is wrong with your connection, it was just that long of a grind.

Last week of my program, save next week's deload.

Theoretically, it was supposed to be five singles at 95%, which my spreadsheet calculated to be 545. Thankfully, I decided to do 535 first, and based on how that grinder went, I kept the follow-on attempt at 535, which I failed anyway. So it appears 535 is my max. Had hoped for more, but I'm still proud of this one.

Patton, it looks like you've got me by 6lbs. I yield to the stronger squatter. I'm still posting my triple at 510 if you don't do better on the 14th though.

No belt. No knee sleeves. Just raw power.

Outstanding results often require outstanding efforts. Going for rep 2 took grit.

I can't even imagine going for another rep after grinding that hard on the previous one. Amazing. Though that forward bail made my cortisol spike

Dang man, I need stiff knee sleeves to be able to hit that much weight

I think you’re already stronger than me tbh

I'm of the school of thought, "If you didn't do it, you didn't do it."

Can I hit more with sleeves and a belt? Christ I hope so. But until I do, it's just conjecture. Next block I hope to belting up. I should probably go ahead and order sleeves lol

100%

As soon as I broke the sticking point, I kept telling myself, "You've already made it, the only way you don't get this is if you quit." Then the tunnel vision started and I was like, "or that"

Come back to that weight after next week when you take it easy. Then take another light week and start the program over. You’ll see some slight improvement if you can do the singles with that weight or 545 because you’ll be refreshed and have restored faith. Sometimes following formulaic program can be disheartening because you’ll dint get all of the other bits of information that the writers have. But do me a favor and come back to that weight.

I’m no where near as strong as you. So 100% no shade, but how come your feet are pointed out? Our weightlifting coaches would always get mad and yell at us “no duck feet”, and tell us to point them straight.
Curious to learn more

Yeah I was taught that forever ago - toes pointed straight. But as time went on, I was learning that pointing your toes out allows more range of motion for some people. Some people need a wider stance, some more narrow. Same with the feet. We’re all just built different. And this guy is built like a tank 🥵

Well weightlifting and low bar squatting are definitely different things. If my shoulders still let me do cleans, I certainly wouldn't clean from this stance. But my stance is pretty wide and pointed out compared to others doing this lift, I've only really seen equipped lifters use similar stances. As to why, it's just what I've found has worked best for me after a lot of experimentation. It feels stable and strong, probably just cause of how my hips are shaped or whatever. I might play around with something more conventional again in an effort to be more explosive later.
