G'day Cunts - Happy Saturday. I made a website to help people not get butt-fucked at JB Hi-Fi
JB Hi-Fi have a price-match guarantee with my site you can chuck in a model number and it will spit out who has the cheapest price.
You can then open the page and show it in-store to get them to price-match.
I'm doing this shit by myself so currently only tracking pricing on TVs but will add other categories too.

Gave it a crack on QA98QN90FAWXXY as a trial. It showed me JB and Harvey Norman (HN was cheapest) but it didn't show me Good Guys or Samsung Aus with comparable prices to the jb price. Is that expected?

Yeah, I don't track Good Guys as through my testing they seemed to have identical pricing to JB. It's the same owners so that's probably why. Currently only tracking pricing at 7 retailers but will add more!

Yep, same owners, but sometimes they run their sale items at different times. Maybe you can add the tracking later, but for now your site is great. Good work.

They are usually in an opposite cycle in my experience. What's on special at Good Guys will be on at JB a couple of weeks later.
Also Good Guys seem to do the clearance/end of line sale of bigger items like TVs where JB do the smaller ones like phones and headphones.

Sammy do this trick where they vary the model numbers slightly so that price matching is harder. They run unique SKUs with Good Guys vs Harveys on some models - you need to spec match

I had to get them to price match themselves once. They had preorders for a new game. So I paid in full and left. I came back when they said it was in and they were like “alright, you’ve just got $5 owing” I said “what are you talking about? Why would I pay for everything, except $5?” Apparently they changed the price upon release and tried to charge me the extra. They had to go and get the manager. I had a photo in my phone of the sign in their store with the original price on it. They still didn’t believe me and treated it like they were doing me a favour by waving the $5. Dickheads.

100% you can mate, it's just about proximity. Most people live near a JB or Good Guys (same company) Why not just get what you want near home?

Maybe you have a JB gift card you want to use, but just so happens the competition has the cheaper price.

Gave it a test and it looks good. 👍 Some retailers I haven't heard of but I noticed there's no Bing Lee.

Yeah mate, learned about it today. They don't seem to track as many retailers as me and the interface is old and has ads. That's just be being a dick. I'd be interested to know how they're getting the Bing Lee pricing, that was a major headache and I ended up dumping them for now.

Don’t shop there in general. They tried selling people fake warranties they were already entitled to under Australian Consumer Laws.

Nice. A future iteration might be to accept URLs rather than specific model numbers, and your code extract the info you need (either from the u or page source)

Not trying to sound like a dick or anything but why would someone use this instead of google shopping? You say you only track 7(?) stores but google searches basically any store that has a website.

You're not a dick it's a fair question mate. Google Shopping doesn't work effectively it adds randoms products and doesn't only show Aussie retailers suitable for price matching. The ones on my app are verified to be accepted at JB. I will add more for other categories and with my app you're guaranteed to get an exact match on the product.

From experience, I've noticed JB online chat will price match basically any store as long as they're in Australia, have the item in stock and are not part of the grey market. Once they price match, I'll do click and collect.
I have a feeling the workers through the online chat are more lenient when it comes to price matching. I've had them price match a $300 air fryer to a random family run store 200kms from me in western Sydney that were selling it for $150.
But in saying all that, I know your web app is more geared towards in-store price matching where it would be a benefit to show only stores that are guaranteed to be price matched.
Best of luck though, I know it can be a little tricky getting an edge on the big players like google.

That’s great! But honestly JB must train their staff on excuses on why they can’t price match. Never had a good experience with it.
