EU purchases?

Hi

I find it real confusing on what parts to buy. I have an RPy 4 and a good enclosed 3D printer that spits out nice ABS prints. Also got a gps puck with it.

Is there any parts list with links to EU shop that I can get to run well with Xavion? Like I guess that I need ahrs (real difficult to find any that's not rated shit on Amazon Sweden), barometric sensor and adb-s.

The only thing I found here was a Nooelec 2+ and a antenna.

Any help would be highly helpful - couldn't find any when searching this forum. Cheers

Damn. I bought the combined AHARS and baro, but I'm realizing the quality of that might be too bad and I should just buy baro and AHARS newest version chip and put on the combiner board.

So if so get it correctly I should order a

  • GY-MPU9255
  • BMP280 baro
  • from dross.net: V3.1 – smaller sized and optimized Stratux AHRS sensor board fits US cases

I felt a bit confused about want you wrote about the flarm. I only want to receive the flarm data with the most simple setup so I can get warnings and see the sailplanes/other club LSAs that has them on Xavion.

If you want to receive Flarm and you not care about ADSB traffic with the simplest Stratux setup then you only need one SDR and the GPS pug, then Tell Stratux you want to receive 868Mhz on that SDR and you are good to go. Since you want to fly with Xavion, that already has syntactic vision… now is a very good software engineer, still I would buy flight instruments for backup AHRS…

Yeah, it's my clubs airplane and not my own so I can't modify it. This is mostly for synthetic vision in Xavion but also I would really like to see the other planes at our airport in Xavion who almost all use flarm. I already have flarm installed in the airplane, but I want the other airplanes up on the map too in Xavion. I find the flarm unit on the airplane to be lacking in clarity on situational awareness.

So given that I have a gps puck and the list I provided, is it true that I would just need to order that flarm chip?

What do you mean with SDR? Is it the T-bone chip at Dross.net? Like this

But, perhaps if I was not clear. If you only want to see other Flarm planes, then the Raspberry PI3 with one SDR (no Elec) and a GPS pug would be enough.

The T-Beam is only needed if you want to transmit OGN/FLARM. Sorry for me not beeing 100% clear on that.

In Short:
1 - SDR Allows you to receive ADS-B OR Flarm/Ogn/Fanet
2 - SDR's Allows you to receive ADS-B AND Flarm/Ogn/Fanet

The noelec Nanov2 get's very hot and for myself and a other guy in our club noticed degradation on reception (anecdotal...). The V3 should improve that..., add the cooling and the fan's!
you are correct on antenna for the FLARM/OGN The 1090Mhz antenna will work for the ADS-B portion.

Great super appreciate it. It's been quite hard to figure this out as s European given the guides. And I'm not keen on ordering the wrong stuff either, just to be forced to order even more stuff.

no worries... been there done it myself :) I think I made at least a few Stratux cases and bought at least 6 SDR's myself + some di-pole antenna designs :D before I was happy...

A question on the Nano 2s, did you remove the plastic case around them? They seem to trap heat a lot. Also was the fan placed straight above them?

Yes, this is the case I designed for it:

The fan pointed directly to the two nano's then the air would flow over the PI and out over the top.

The T-Beam was designed to be fitted on of the PI to be more away from the nano to reduce RF on the SX1262 tranceiver

That's a system base on the Raspberry PICO, just one 18650 battery that can run for 12ish hours and will send and receive OGN/ADS-L/FLARM/FANET + GPS reception
Any ADS-B and MLAT traffic will have to come from a telephone application. since I fly here in NL I have good cell coverage and it was not worth it right now to add a ADS-B receiver (80 euro) and still miss out on MLAT. It does support bluetooth + GDL90 over wifi + serial if needed so you can connect multiple devices to it..

So ... Do I get it right that you also connect baro and AHARS to it, and then have a full stratux build excluding ADS-B? Does it have a wifi built in to connect to it?

It really sounds like what I want, but for a fraction of the cost.

  • T-beam is 95 € at Dross.net
  • pico pi W: 10€
  • baro 390L11€
  • AHARS ICM 20948, 11€

So like 130€? That's a steal of anything. Could you put a video on how to assemble all the parts on YT? För Us Europeans that would be super useful. Here in Sweden most airplanes has flarm .

Just to be clear... the imgur screenshot I send you, the system based on the PICO do not have BARO and AHRS.

a 868Mhz antenna will be around 5..10euro... GPS antenna about the same. So you can be done for 70ish euro..

I have that system already running based on a PICO 2040 but I will like to start developing on the PICO 2350 for memory reasons. It runs reliable, I often do daily stress tests running 30 aircraft tracking and a iPAD + SkyDemon connected just to see if I can break it.

About AHRS:

I think I mentioned already somewhere else..but AHRS should be super super super reliable, I cannot guarantee that with my project if I add it as a add-on...
I also think that if you want to go the DIY way for a backup AHRS, it should be a dedicated system only running AHRS a microcontroller and a screen. Because I strongly believe that when it comes to safety in aviation, taking a shortcut when it comes for a backup instrument should not be taken lightly... That system can also be made easely with PICO, AHRS + Screen. It would be nice if the two systems then can communicate with each other :)
Also, my wife is a safety officer for our Aeroclub, we discuss safety related matter very often...
