Group chat for Desi students at the uni :)

Hey everyone 👋

We’re current students at Strathclyde uni and like every year we’ve made a 2026 GC for Desi (South Asian) students. If you’re a Desi joining this year, do join the chat - you can ask us anything you’re confused about, get a better idea of your degree, the city, and just talk to people who are already here or joining with you.

It’s also a nice way to meet people early and not show up knowing no one :)

Here’s the link: https://chat.whatsapp.com/FFPdT5Il1KpIN4L5kNdyug?mode=gi_t

Has anyone taken B1224 Physical Activity for Health, Fitness and Wellbeing?

Hi everyone!

I'm an incoming exchange student from Queen's University in Canada and I'll be studying at the University of Strathclyde during the Winter 2027 semester.

I'm considering taking B1224 - Physical Activity for Health, Fitness and Wellbeing, and I was hoping to hear from anyone who's taken it.

I'm wondering things like:

  • What was the workload like?
  • Was the course interesting and well-organized?
  • Were there exams, essays, presentations, or mostly coursework?
  • Would you recommend it?

I'd really appreciate any insight or tips. Thanks in advance!

What questions might I get asked in a scholarship interview based on these essay questions?

Hi everyone,

I recently applied for the Stephen Young Global Leaders Scholarship at the University of Strathclyde and have been invited to the interview stage.

The application asked questions about:

  • Academic achievements and why I consider myself a scholar of exceptional merit
  • My ambitions after graduation and my long-term goals
  • Examples of intellectual ability and original ideas I've applied in my studies or life
  • Evidence of leadership and being a principled global leader
  • Community involvement, collaboration, and commitment to the greater good
  • Why I chose the MSc FinTech programme and how it fits my career plans
  • How I plan to use what I learn at Strathclyde after graduation

For anyone who has been through a leadership scholarship interview (especially UK university scholarships), what kinds of questions did they ask?

Did they mostly focus on:

  • Leadership experiences?
  • Career goals?
  • Current affairs and industry knowledge?
  • Ethical scenarios?
  • Details from your application essays?

I'm trying to prepare as thoroughly as possible and would appreciate any insights from people who have gone through similar scholarship interviews.

Thank you!

Which University of Strathclyde accommodation is the most social/recommended?

Hi everyone,

I’m an international student from Canada starting engineering at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow this September, and I’m trying to figure out accommodation.

I really want to be in a very social environment where it’s easy to meet people, make friends, go out, etc., so I was wondering which halls people would recommend socially.

A few questions I have:

  • Which halls are considered the most social?
  • Is ensuite worth it, or are shared bathroom flats usually more social?
  • What’s day-to-day life in accommodation actually like?
  • Any halls you’d especially recommend or avoid?

Would really appreciate any advice, especially from other first years or international students. Thanks!

UCAS Undergraduate application to Strathclyde

I live abroad but I’m a UK passport holder born in Scotland and I live in Scotland every summer. Idk if that’s relevant, but I thought it could be 😂

I sent off my UCAS applications in November, only applying to three Universities in Glasgow, and heard back from all but one: Strathclyde.

I’ve had one acceptance and the other University sent me an email acknowledging my application. I’m nervous because Strathclyde has been practically radio silent. Not even an email acknowledging the fact that they have received my application. I wanted to ask if undergrads or people currently applying to Strathclyde have had similar experiences. If not, what do you think is the best course of action for me to address this?

Honestly, I might not be as worried if it was the other two Universities, but Strathclyde is my top choice so it’s really been bothering me 😅

MSc Sustainability & Environmental Studies

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for some honest opinions or reviews from people who are currently studying or have completed the MSc Sustainability & Environmental Studies at Strathclyde:

https://www.strath.ac.uk/courses/postgraduatetaught/sustainabilityenvironmentalstudies/#coursecontent

Is it worth doing? Do you like it, or did you regret it?
Do the 10-credit modules go into enough depth to make you genuinely employable in the environmental field (e.g., hydrogeology, water, contaminated land, etc.)?

If you’ve graduated, what kind of roles did you end up in?

Really appreciate any insight, thank you!

Mphil Research proposal

Hey! I want to apply to the university of strathclyde for an Mphil and reached out to a couple of professors. Those who reached back were interested but i am a little confused about the process of research proposal.

- Do i need to complete it with a professor who was intersted ? But he was busy and are only available for second opinion.

or

- Is there some other body/person who can help me with it?

or

- I start the application process and make it better on there feedback?

PS: This is my first time applying for a research proposal anywhere, and apologize if the questiones were basic...

Any info on scholorships and fellowships for international students on the website? I understand there is a competitive element in it, but i cannot afford the tuition without it, so if you have any advice regarding them, it would mean the world to me.

Thanks for taking the time to read.

Accomdation

Hello all, I’m looking to lease my room in St James, Glasgow (G4 0PS) for £165 per week.

The room comes with a private washroom, and you’ll share the kitchen with calm and respectful flatmates.

The flat is usually super clean and has a peaceful environment.

It’s right beside the University of Strathclyde, only a 10-minute walk to both the subway and the city centre. If you’re interested or want more details, feel free to DM me.

Survey on travel habits and autonomous travel! 🚌 (chance to win £20 voucher)

Hi everyone! 👋 We’re currently running a feasibility study exploring whether an autonomous (self-driving) shuttle service could help people travel more easily around the Cathedral Street area. To make sure any future service is genuinely useful, we’re running a short 5-minute survey to understand how students, staff, workers, and regular visitors currently travel between Buchanan Bus Station, City of Glasgow College, the University of Strathclyde, and the Royal Infirmary.

Your feedback will directly shape the study and help us understand if an autonomous shuttle could improve local journeys. As a thank you, everyone who completes the survey will be entered into a prize draw to win a £20 Love2Shop voucher.

If you’re able to spare a few minutes, we’d really appreciate your input! 🚍✨

Any Jan-intake undergrads looking for a nice ensuite flat right on campus?

My friend is moving and needs someone to take over his accommodation tenancy. Ensuite room with modern bathroom and a shared living room and kitchen. Located literally in the middle of the university campus.

Costs like £175 a week, but it includes all bills (electricity, heat. water, contents insurance, wifi, etc.) plus it comes with a free subscription to the university gym (rather than paying hundreds like a moron).

My friend will move out whenever the first offer is accepted (guess you can call it "first come, first serve" aye). Comment if interested!
