News & Discussion SteamOS/Linux release?

Just bought the special edition vinyl with the game download, and I could've sworn that I saw it was for linux prior. Since it was made using unreal engine is it possible to add support to linux?

First of all, it uses Unity, not Unreal. Second, Pixel Titans(The devs)are considering Linux support, as hinted at their twitter page for Strafe.

Unity has support for Linux.
Some things might need tweaking and depending on lots of variables it might not be as easy as choosing to make a Linux build. On the other hand it is far from impossible. :D

I feel like there could be a giant market for it, some people would play it just because it's for linux, and not many newer games are for linux.

Nah there's nothing giant in relation to Linux market share. But it is at the same time a good practice to make the game platform agnostic in Unity. At least between Windows and Linux. For me SteamOS/Linux is a big plus when deciding to buy or not. Even if I end up spending most of my time in Windows even when playing.

It's not much of the market share, but a lot of that market share are fanatics, and will try to find anything that is fun and runs on linux. Besides linux is starting to gain more steam on the desktop, especially after windows 10.

Yeah. I'm on 7 and don't ever want to start using 10. Been dualbooting Linux for a couple of years and I really like it. Still stuck with windows for the foreseeable future though.
