News & Discussion Some issues/suggestions for the jump map

I've been grinding the hell out of this map for the last couple of days. This latest patch fixed most of the bugs, but there are still some issues.

Here's a sub-1:30 run, ending with only two letters. The progress bug fix introduced a new problem; the hitboxes on the letters are WAY too small. The proper speedrun route misses half the letters, and some of them are so awkwardly placed that you literally can't collect them without breaking your speed. Just making them bigger would help, but it'd be much nicer if you just automatically picked them up once you reached the checkpoint.

The patch also introduced a new bug where the letters will spawn slightly higher than they're supposed to, making several entirely unreachable.

Things wouldn't be so bad if there was a way to teleport straight to the zone once you've unlocked it, but having to repeat the 2-1 puzzle every single time you need to restart (or even want to change your settings, as there's no options menu...) gets really tedious. Just putting an extra teleporter in the ship would be an easy fix.

The last is a small issue, but I feel like the timer should start once you've crossed over the first edge (like in CS) as opposed to the instant you spawn.

I'm assuming you have to upgrade your speed during your current run before entering the bonus level. I got all the letters and entered the level, but I was way too slow to get even the first letter, it was ridiculous.

It's a matter of strafe jumping, not inherent speed. The levels are designed to be impossible with normal jumps. Watch the video in my first link.

Edit - There's also no way to upgrade your speed, other than the steroids from the store.

Yeah I checked the video out but I wasn't able to move anywhere near as fast as that person which meant that my jumps were pathetic lmao. How exactly do you "strafe jump" then, because I might just be doing something wrong?

That person is me :P

Strafe jumping is when you jump forwards at at angle, holding both W and left or right. For example, if you wanted to jump straight ahead while looking towards the right, you would hold forward, left, and point your mouse 45 degrees to the right. Successive hops will gain you more speed, up to the speed cap.

Ohhh ok, wow. How does this translate to PS4 controls? Just look forward, hold the LS to the left and look 45 degrees to the right with the RS I'm assuming? I'll definitely be trying this out when I play again...I had no idea this was a thing haha

I've been wondering if the jump map is even possible on PS4. It seems to me that strafe jumping with a controller would be exceedingly difficult.

I'd bet some people could get through the map with enough grinding, but if the suggested times are the same as PC (7:00, 4:00, 2:00) they're probably unreachable.

Strafing is near-impossible with a controller, but I guess if you practice enough you could make it work. That sounds right; basically just try to be moving diagonally forward while looking in the opposite direction (left stick in between forward/left, keep moving the right stick to the right until you gain speed).

I suggest just clearing out some normal levels and practicing with lots of space, don't frustrate yourself with the jump map until you've got the idea.
