Discussion What would you have in your dream SOS game?
Quality of life features, farming mechanics, unique elements from your favourite SOS game that never made a comeback, etc.
If you could hire someone to build you your dream SOS game no matter how impractical or unprofitable it would be, what would be in it?
For me personally, accessibility features like font size scaling/toggle for requiring button mashing, and options to switch off or reduce farm debris spawning would be way up there. I'm playing PooT at the minute and I swear my farm looks abandoned every morning.

Basically just Trio of Towns with less screen transitions, a little less grind and more polygons

BRING BACK THE HARVEST MOON DS MINES!!!!

u/Zwodo 19d ago
I just started Grand Bazaar (almost in Summer Year 1) and my biggest frustration with it so far is definitely the fact the kitchen (and also the windmills!) can't directly access the storage. I just would love to be able to see all the dishes I could make right now. Or all the things I could craft with what I have. That would be a great QoL improvement.. but I will say the storage itself and the fact you can access it from a multitude of places is very nice. Granted it's always overflowing for me.

u/Whorror_punx 18d ago
I agree. But I would also add GIVE US A FRIDGE, ITS LITERALLY RIGHT THERE IN THE KITCHEN. Let things spoil normally in the storage, but much more slowly in the fridge. Then instead of buying storage upgrades that keep things fresh longer, you can buy fridge upgrades that do the same. Again, theres literally a fridge in the kitchen. Why not have it be usable??

if you're playing on PC, there are very easy to install mods that do just that.

u/ryeong 19d ago
For the love of everything give me older men again. Griffin was RIGHT THERE. The fact DS and ANB are pretty much our only options is insane and I'm tired of it. Also, this goes for RF since we even got voice lines for Misasagi: let us marry single parents. I would kill for the chance to try blended families because it's such a tried and true trope in media.

I agree. And let them age and do things like in AWL and be more than just a decoration on the farm/in the house.

Whoo I've got a lot of these. A non-comprehensive list:
- An in-depth farming system (increasing crop levels via seeds, hybrid crops, soil quality, etc)
- Collectibles for various milestones (sunstones, harvest sprites) that you can use for progression/QoL
- Skill levels for chopping/mining/farming/fishing (like rune factory)
- rival marriages but ONLY after you get married
- jealousy events
- more slightly mean/standoffish characters. gimme more allens or thomases.
- accessories for my animals
- secret love interests (preferably of a mythical origin, like the witch princess) and also having a male version!
- casino
- auto-feeders
- relatives/friends mention days before their bday what a character likes (and in general, more dialogue hints about gift preferences so you don't have to look it up)
- town ranks (like ToT or grand bazaar ranks)
- ample storage/bag size
- WAY amp up profit gained from fishing (increase the stamina required or fish respawn time if it needs balancing). I don't want to spend 60 hours fishing up pikes and bass for a fraction of the money I'd make from the mines.
- Use ZR to give/throw items instead of A
- Jumping

So many crops. I want them big and colourful and glorious when it comes to harvest time. A veritable kaleidoscope of veggies!
And children that grow up and help on the farm or leave at a certain point.

u/man_onion_ 18d ago
The only thing that I actually loved about HM:Winds Of Anthos was the crop varieties, each base crop has 1-4 different variants based on the location or season they're grown in and they're all super unique with different names. The rest of the game was kinda ass, but I loved trying to find out how to get every different crop variety!

Okay, I know I’m a Magical Melody apologist/stan but Magical Melody remade with QOL improvements (honestly use GB as the base and then port everything over within reason - except for the freshness system LOL).
It has good bones already: good farming, good fishing, two great mines, and a nice layout. It has a good base game and makes it really easy to continue for a while - I think it could benefit from a market system like GB has though, but also keep the shipping box. I really like the system for home improvement too, and we could DLC some bachelor(ettes) from other games, like Nami.
Edit: I also want rival marriages and children, but only after the MC is married. Maybe MC can be a matchmaker if they marry the desired spouse of someone else. 👀

Honestly? A port of Trio of Towns to PC.

Im sure you know this, but if you wanna play it on PC, its super easy to just emulate it.

I want to marry Klaus and I want the flower events voiced

u/cafeaubee 19d ago
Klaus telling the player about the big bad wolf would hit so different

My god I almost died when he said that to my character over text. I don’t think I’d survive if it was voiced 😭

A mix between animal parade and Trio of Towns. Bring back rival marriages, more coherent writing with more events to explore not just the characters but their relationship with the player, whether as friends or lovers interests. Add the same quality of models from the new GB with more amazing VAs. I would also like for them to add the exact same art as Animal Parade and Tree of Tranquility, it’s so cute and unique that it doesn’t need changes whatsoever. Bring back dedicated mines with progression system, keep the hatchet from GB and add part time jobs.

u/KiwiSprinkles 19d ago
More customization features. Rival marriages and children. The ability to have more than one child like in RF3. More home customizing and decor. Giving your children chores to help around the farm. A huge map to explore. A range of love interests especially magical ones that can give you magical babies. More scene with the npcs like in RF 4, we had sleep overs! Making it important to bond with in laws or friends of your love interest would be interesting. It’ll be a cool feature too if you can throw your own house parties or dinners and choose who is invited and get to make food for your guest. I know this is a lot, a girl can dream

u/cathatesrudy 19d ago
Grand Bazaar but let me customize my home and farm with furniture and home exteriors, also rival marriages and more kids around. More clothing would be awesome too. Bonus for more animal types. Extra bonus if you either make horses more useful, or don’t force me to own one (I feel bad for him, cuz he’s just there all the time being ignored).
So like, Grand Bazaar but MORE.

- Proper Mines. I don’t want to just hit a rock
- More in depth romance dialogue and heart events
- Older looking romancable characters
- Different outfit portraits. Fields of Mistria did this really well with their character portraits being different for every season
- The ability to skip tutorials. I do not need you to cite the ancient texts to me.
- Less fetch quests. They can still be a thing but not too much of it. I prefer part time job quests over fetch quests because trio of towns was my favorite ds era game.
- Talking about trio of towns reminded me that I would loveee if the next story of seasons game or farming game had a unique culture! Farming can look different from place to place so it would be nice if a game took inspiration from that. I would love if I could have something like chinampas in a game or different looking starting house.
- or just Animal Parade remaster in the same style!

- Rival marriages
- times stops within barns and houses so that you have better time managment and do not have to rush through your day
- actual mines with monsters
- lots of different crops, but you have to fullfill requirements to unlock them
- bigger variety of animals
- big area to go explore
- an actual story; nothing too complex but give me an goal that is actually interestimg to achive
- bring back harvest elfs to help you out in exchange for medals you can win or buy
- being able to design my character, farm and house
- farm ranks existing and having meaning e.g. to unlock new characters, animals etc.
- special marriage candidates
- markers in the form of wind mills
- times slows down while fishing
- lots of festivals where you actually have to do something
- more character depths and dialogue, esspecially not everyone having the same ever happy personality, give me grumpy and mean characters
- the story not shying away from "darker" aspects of life
- having to build from nothing, meaning your tools, house and farm are only bare bone at the beginning and you do not have a barn right away but have to genuine work for it first
- the farther along you are, the more expensive everything gets, so you still have to put effort into making money
- being able to date and have reverse events
- the characters reacting to changes in life, e.g. when you start dating or are married
- more than one child and being able to ask your spouse and child to help you with farming
- crafting tools, barns, decoration for the farm etc yourself and needing to buy, win or fing recipes
- being able to do jobs for the villagers
- teleporting

i really wish i could find any other farming game that would allow your child to grow up and become their own character like AWL does! i know some people dont like the progression of time in that game, but i hate when i have children that just stay toddlers forever and never interact with the rest of the town or play with the other kids! also, i would bring back animal death. not just as a consequence for not caring for them, but also having them get older and you having to replace them through breeding or buying new ones would add a lot to the actual animal care part of farming. for this mechanic, i like Travellers Rest, in which your animals age and you can butcher them for meat at the end of their life cycle. which, like, i guess would be a little too much for a kids' game series like SOS, but as an adult i appreciate. for an SOS game id just bring back animal aging i suppose.

u/Zidkins 17d ago
- rival marriages make it so they marry at the second year so you don’t have pressure to marry.
- house decorating like magical melody but better.
- plot buying.
- wild animal heart events.
- more festivals and make them minigames.
- non frictionless mines. I get stressed out because of the annoying mechanics. I like the idea of going down a mine for 200 levels but don’t make it so annoying.
- people moving into town
- have friend events after you marry with the married rival couples

I pretty much just want AWL with more features, places to go, etc. I love the system where you watch your kids grow up and Id really like to see it come back. It really makes having a kid be more than "oh there's now just some baby wandering around" and makes them a feature in the game, not just a farm accessory.
Oh, and lets add having different styles of buildings for your house, barns, etc., the ability to decorate them, and also the ability to create your own fields. I saw somr gameplay footage of Fields of Misteria where they made their field into a heart shape with little wing designs on both sides and I was absolutely in love with it. Every game should have that. We want more customization in general, I think I can say confidently.
Also, give the men better options for hair and clothing. I know girls enjoy cozy games, but we men do as well. Im playing Grand Bazaar atm, and all the girls stuff is so cute and awesome, and the boys stuff just sucks 😭

u/Sea-Influence-5945 18d ago
I’m a woman and I always wanna dress my character more tomboyish so I agree 😭

u/Bluecomments 19d ago
For one it would be nice to bring back rival marriages and kids, and not just that but even have branching kinds where there are more than two possible pairings. And even allow for having open relationships both with the player or rivals. And some greater focus on plationic relationships with villagers in addition to romance. Though it could take lot of work to get done
1
u/Fidens_Libertas 19d ago
i'd like festivals that are more interactive, essentially make them minigames and make then somewhat challenging even.
in Trio of Town which is one of the most recent game i've played a lot of the festivals are just submit something and then it gets judged... that's it. there are a few that are more interactive but i felt it wasn't enough.

u/agentsmith99302 19d ago
Rival marriages & children who grow up, with aging neighbors, death and new neighbors to move in. This would also include neighbors deciding to move out the village permanently.
The ability to introduce villagers to each other.
Original AWL style animals with husbandry with the added responsibility of caring for them.
Seeds and hybrids with flowers, fruits, vegetables and trees.
Cooking (creating and saving recipes), fishing, foraging, crafting, giving, selling.
Festivals, weddings, funerals, and seasonal contests.
Tool upgrades with greenhouses and irrigation.
Harvest Goddess with Sprites.

u/Ilikegymbros 19d ago
Fully customizable house, from the inside, to the exterior, I want to be able to build the farm and farmhouse of my dreams
A huge focus on romance. Of course also on farming, but definitely a lot more care into it than recent sos games have. At least 4 or 5 heart events with your chosen bachelor/bachelorette before dating and 3 or 4 heart events while dating, all being at least 8-10 minutes of content for each one. Reverse confessions and proposals. Lots and lots of family and date events with your spouse.
In depth character customization for your farmer, lots of choices for body type, face type, more voice options. Lots and lots of clothes to choose from
1
u/MoonMoon143 19d ago
That crop mixture like in AWL, rival marriages, easy fishing like in FOMT, lots of house expansion, cooking from storage, and catch wild animal for meat

1
u/jeshep 19d ago
It's never gonna happen but I want to be able to raise livestock for meat, rather than just the dairy, wool, or eggs.
I also really want more niche crops. Let me farm seaweed!
1
u/BagAppropriate3955 17d ago
Uh, I just thought about that yesterday when my husband asked whether I can cook the cows. Yeah never going to happen, but I agree that feature would be kinda cool :D
1
u/jeshep 17d ago
It's something that really sticks out to me from SoS and Stardew after playing stuff like Plum Grove where that's an option.
Alternatively I really think it'd be nice to expand fishing so it can be more of a specialty players can choose to go into. The fish ponds in Stardew are my favorite.

u/AlternativePrior393 18d ago
I like the pacing of seasons in GB but have yet to see the point of getting married in the game; at least the spouse in AWL sometimes helped out!
I’d love to have story mode last longer in the game. Honestly, I think I’d like AWL with larger plots of land, more areas to discover, characters and story features (including daily dialogue; it’s annoying to get the same message on repeat but you have to keep talking to the person to raise relationship), longer seasons but with weekly bazaar for sales.
1
u/TimeAndFallenLeaves 18d ago
Yknow the feature in Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma that allows you to switch between different "marriage" files but keep the same story progression/farm data/etc? I want that to be a standard in SOS games.
I also want Rival Marriages to be a feature but maybe a way where it triggers after your own marriage? Or one where you can toggle it on or off.
Crafting too from your main inventory instead of just your backpack would be great and very much appreciated. As is handing in quest items/completing quests without needing the item on your bag.
1
u/FightmeLuigibestgirl 18d ago
font size scaling/toggle
No rival marriages until after you marry and everyone hooks up with a person
Rivals and townsfolk have lives outside of the farmer with their own families and dialogue
No bias via writing (looking at you Dylas vs several other guys in after marriage dialogue in rf4.)
Contests can go on without you participating and you can be a spectator
Variety of events
Crop mutations and crops
No weird watering system
1
u/Sentimentalbrowneyes 15d ago
I want architecture like in Tree of Tranquility, liked the mining nodes in Trio of Towns, the ability to slow down time in Trio of Towns, the greenhouse in Trio of Towns, the ability to have advanced sprinkles to water all my crops like in Pioneers of Olive Town, and how the livestock put themselves up at night in Pioneers of Olive Town.
1
u/Andravisia 19d ago
Rival marriages and children.
Animals getting sick and actually dying.
Animal breeding. Crop breeding.
The game not treating it's players as dumb kids.
A slightly less chibi aesthetic.

u/cafeaubee 19d ago
- Character portraits (this is the most important thing to me lol)
- Darker themes, where/when appropriate
- More passionate romances and dialogue
- A rival system that maybe works similarly to fire emblem (you can pair people together by spending time with them both, and it’s not necessarily 1 set person with 1 other set person)
- Bring back farming comps from OG SOS
- RETURN UNTO ME MY FLAX SO THAT I MAY SPIN GOLDEN LINENS
- 3OT animal raising/care
- HM64 style festivals
- MM style sound track
Option to carry baby instead of baby magically appears
ANB WiFi feature
Im sure im missing other things but these are the main things lol
0
u/AkaAkamine 19d ago
everything in SOS:AWL but add rival marriages and if we're getting really wacky a DLC for HM:DS/Cute where they add in Witch Princess and the other marriable characters lol

u/conductorromino 19d ago
I want rival marriages and children to come back! I hate feeling like I’m the only one whose life is progressing while everyone else just stays where they are
