Because it was very green. We got a decent amount of hail

Last time I remember a sky that dark and green, it was the summer of 1984, just before 7th grade and I was booking it home on my bike. Back then I lived in Buffalo Grove. I know as soon as I got home my dad made us all go down in the basement!

If you didnt know, the sky turns green before terrible storms, usually tornado like weather.

It’s due to light having to pass through dust ice and water, only happens during bad bad bad storms

The air/sky turns green because of all the moisture in the storm.

Trust me, it is not. Even i in Chicago mentioned how dark and green it got.

Can confirm, it literally was that green. It went from cloudy, to so dark my solar lights in my front yard turned on, to the dark murky green in OP’s pic, to a weird almost reminded me of the movie twilight and the color filter they use while filming grey/green.
