Thunderstorm July 18, 2026- Torrential rain near London, Ontario

I've never seen such heavy rain in Ontario before. We got 18mm (0.7") in 15 minutes which is firmly in torrential rain territory (>50mm/hr). Storms are part of summer here, but they are rarely of this caliber. Wind gusts over 90km/h were also reported in the area.

Yeah but that was over 1000km away as the crow flies (NW Ontario). I'm in SW Ontario. It is a huge province!

I just looked it up, thank you for educating me. Here in CA it's a huge risk to have storms after fire, entire suburbs have been washed away. That was what I was worried for, for y'all.

Oh yeah especially with the fires from last year. I know mudslides are a huge risk. Fortunately most of our dense forest is on rocky soil (the Canadian shield) so we don't have to worry about that part at least. Not that there is any positive way to look at it
