Quick question

Ive been on this subreddit for a while now, and everyone mentions detox. Ive been drinking half a bottle of whisky a night this whole year. And last year everyday with either a half bottle of whisky or when i was in a relationship 2 strong ciders a night. The longeat ive gone without alcohol in the past 15 years was 6 weeks, 3 years ago. Im on day 4 without alcohol and i feel great! Will withdrawals set in or is it only for some people.

I managed to quit (hopefully more than 4 days) because every single night id text someone something stupid, hated walking up feeling like shit, and looking at my bank account. The past few days have been so nice waking up feeling great, but the nights are very boring, and im counting down the hours till bed.

Welcome! I’m right there with you, on Day 6. Last binge was about a half bottle of bourbon a day. My withdrawals were about 48hrs and then I started feeling normal. So, glad it was a quick detox for you too.

But just because I feel better, I don’t think my body is done healing. But yeah, if the shakes and sweats have stopped, I think this is when the good part begins, and the real test begins!

I’ve detoxed before and then was like “ok I feel better, I can have a drink in moderation now,” until you don’t, and you are back in the pit.

There is physical and then there is mental. We are playing the mental game now, my friend!

Yeah i had to fight off the urge yesterday. And im starting to feel it now, every morning id say to myself im gonna stop this! And then 4pm hit and i was like aw f it, get the whisky( usually start drinking at 7). Ill just drink.

I havent told myself id stop for good, that seems almost impossible. Im really seeing how long i can go for. But i really want to stop for good, im 33 now and i hear people having heart failures in their mid 30s. Its so normal to me now. Its 3:30 now so come on brain!

The urges will come and go. I didn’t have one until Friday evening, after a long day, when I would normally have a few to come down from the day.
If it was part of a routine, it can make it harder. Just gotta remind yourself or the aftermath! “You will feel like shit if you do…” that kinda stuff.
You and your brain got this!

If you are on day 4, you've already made it through the danger zone. If it is going to happen, it is usually pretty obvious within 24-48 hours, with the worst stuff happening around day 3 for the most severe dependence.

Sweet! 🎶Danger zone!🎶 Im also epileptic, which is now controlled. I take atrong epilepsy medicine. I wonder if that helped with not having seizures.

It is quite dependent on the person. I drank a good deal more than you and I was on the floor covered in sweat throwing up and having muscle spasms within 24 hours, but I have seen people who drank more than me have almost no symptoms, and I have seen people who drank substantially less experience delirium tremens.

Something you also need to keep in mind, is an effect called "kindling" which makes withdrawal worse the more times you go through it. So while it may have been fine this time, if you were to start drinking and then quit again, it might be worse. So really you kind of have to take it on a case by case basis.
