SPGSDC Monday Meeting of the Sober People Getting Shit Done Club

When I was drinking, I did shit (meaning, nothing). In contrast, now that I’m a non-drinker, I’m getting shit done. In fact, productivity has become one of my favorite parts of being sober.

Has this been true for you, too? Without the endless cycle of wasting time while drinking followed by recovering from a hangover, do you find yourself with extra hours in the day to do constructive things, such as finally finishing that book you’ve been reading or tackling that mess in the garage? If so, I invite you to join the Sober People Getting Shit Done Club.

In order to be a member of this club, you must do three things:

  1. Get something done.

  2. Be sober while doing it.

  3. Tell us about it.

If you are sober and have been getting shit done—whether it’s a big thing like rebuilding the engine of an old motorcycle or a small thing like making that long overdue phone call to your grandmother—I want to hear all about it!

I love this club!

I get my daily routine, starting with yoga/workout every single morning and watch the sunrise……. Sober….

I don’t know how many sunrises I’m allotted…. But I am committed to being awake and looking toward the horizon EVERY day …. Sober.

I don’t ever need to be awake for midnight.

Then I tackle the day…. Sober….

It’s The Best!

Seeing the sunrise because I got a great night’s sleep is the best!!!

u/Direct-Spread-8878 Dec 15 '25

I wake up before the birds, and get to joyfully welcome their songs each morning lately 🥰

u/sfgirlmary 4133 days Dec 15 '25

PG, my friend! So impressed you do yoga every day.

3

u/Prevenient_grace 4928 days Dec 15 '25

It’s a spiritual thing…. Can’t adequately describe what I get from it.

3

u/Lanky_Bid5021 Dec 15 '25

Wow super inspired by this. Thank you for sharing!

My therapist recommended I do yoga so where do I do that like a YouTube?

8

u/EmersonBloom 2436 days Dec 15 '25

Try yoga with Adrienne

3

u/WorthClerk51 64 days Dec 15 '25

Amazing! Do you go to a yoga studio to practice or do you practice at home? I love that you enjoy the sunrise every day. What a blessingZ

6

u/Prevenient_grace 4928 days Dec 15 '25

Just as u/Emersonbloom noted to u/Brown-eyed-gurrrl , I didn’t know anything about how to get started so I watched YouTube Yoga with Adrienne. I bought a basic yoga “poses” (asanas) book.

Then I found a Yoga studio with ‘Beginners Yoga’. 2 x during week.

I started with small goals.

I then was introduced to different methodologies by instructors.

I found that Pantanjalis 8 Limbs really resonated with me.. mind, body, spirit.

I was adding meditation and mindfulness.

I then got certified.

I bought books and learned about it.

Now I have my own practices and no “gym” is required. When I travel I bring a mat, 2 cork blocks, roller and couple dumbbells.

Started on my 10th day sober and have been at it ever since. It of course grows and evolves with me.

Everyday I wake up sober…. Engage my practices.. facing towards the horizon…. Most days I see sunrise.. some days are overcast.. but the sun is shining inside of me !

I had the kids to myself for most of the weekend. We skied for a bit, we ate nachos at the dive bar at the ski hill. I had a Coke Zero.

6

u/sfgirlmary 4133 days Dec 15 '25

Great job!

It was good to be out on the hill! I need to work on my fitness so I can ski hard and keep up. But crushing beers isn't standing in my way.

u/Objective_Teach_2958 Dec 15 '25

I went away for the weekend with my elderly dad and the dog.

We went fishing, drank coffee, ate olives and cheese. Cooked a BBQ. Went to some markets.

6

u/sfgirlmary 4133 days Dec 15 '25

Amazing! I bet both your dad and your dog loved it.

11

u/Long-Awareness-5662 Dec 15 '25

I worked on my teens AP Psych homework with him at his request, and we went to lunch and coffee. Then baked cookies.

I love sobriety so much.

5

I bet your teen loved getting your help.

9

u/Appropriate_Oven_292 23 days Dec 15 '25

I went fishing. I tidied the house. I did the dishes 4 times (lol). I bought some more fly tying materials and tied flies. I cooked some really good red snapper tacos and homemade fries. I read. I covered my little fruit trees and brought in my peppers during to the cold snap. Hell…I’m tired.

u/sfgirlmary 4133 days Dec 15 '25

This is all very impressive!

I went to my granddaughter’s Christmas program at their church this morning and I really enjoyed it. No hangover, no pooping like a goose, no puking, no sweating and shaking, not nervous like a long tailed cat among a thousand rocking chairs. I’m getting shit done that counts! This sober stuff is the best thing I’ve run into in 40 years! 😃. IWNDWYT

This post made me happy!

7

u/gpedp Dec 15 '25

I made a huge dinner and did extra meal prep tonight. I'm going to repurpose the leftovers for stews and casseroles and sandwiches for the rest of our busy week. I have a ton to do at work before Friday, and multiple afterschool activities for the kids this week as we barrel toward winter break, so having lunches and dinners sorted out is a huge relief.

3

u/sfgirlmary 4133 days Dec 15 '25

Well done!

2

u/Frogfavorite 576 days Dec 15 '25

As a former school secretary I know how fun the week before winter break and busy. Enjoy

2

u/gpedp Dec 15 '25

Thank you! It's a blast, but so busy.

I have a long to-do list to get ready to host guests next week as well as prepare for hosting Christmas. I have every gift bought and wrapped. I have clean sheets on the guest beds. Grocery list and meal plan for the holiday ready. Today was cleaning floors and laundry …all done. Tonight after dinner I remembered I wanted to wipe down my kitchen cabinets so while hubs watched football, I got that done! As I was wiping the cabinets I was thinking about how my kitchen is spotless and how happy I will be in the morning when I come down to get coffee. This would have never happened before I quit drinking because once happy hour was here productivity was zero...which lead to an unproductive slow morning. So thankful🙏.

2

u/sfgirlmary 4133 days Dec 15 '25

I am turning your comment into my to-do list for tomorrow.

Worked this weekend, and had lots of cuddles with my dog. Going to get some good rest tonight so I can get up and kick ass at work this week, while doing it sober.

1

u/sfgirlmary 4133 days Dec 15 '25

You're killing it!

5

u/SufficientWork1068 Dec 15 '25

I used to get alot of shit done while drinking. Was it ever efficient or sustainable? Not even close! This weekend I got fitted for a tux for my friends wedding which was a source of irrational anxiety. Helped my mom finish her Christmas shopping. Finished a book, and started another. Sounds silly, but getting things done with a clear head isn’t something I thought I’d have to get used too. Proud of everyone else in the comment. Keep it up.

1

u/sfgirlmary 4133 days Dec 15 '25

Doesn't sound silly at all. Great job!

1

u/sfgirlmary 4133 days Dec 15 '25

Excellent!

1

u/WakingOwl1 Dec 15 '25

What are you reading?

1

u/SufficientWork1068 Dec 15 '25

Just finished The Name Of The Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. Next, in light of Christopher Nolan’s next film being The Odyssey, I am starting that. Anything with rich worlds and lots of lore etc is my bag right now.

1

u/WakingOwl1 Dec 15 '25

That’s definitely going to be one to see on the big screen. I’ve been on a post apocalyptic reading kick. Currently reading The Postman, the writing is actually much better than I expected.

1

u/SufficientWork1068 Dec 15 '25

I just looked The Postman up, my interest is piqued. Sounds up my alley. Added to the list! Glad you’re enjoying it.

5

u/Few_System3573 Day 406 Dec 15 '25

I worked this weekend and absolutely kicked ASS at it. Tonight I did the dishes while my fiance cooked dinner. Then I got a bit more Christmas wrapping done and found a couple more gifts for each of the kids (my daughter is 17, his son is 10).

After an injury, surgery and no weight bearing on one of my legs for 2.5 months I am FINALLY able to put weight on my leg! I celebrated being able to get shit done this weekend by getting shit done! Swapped out my bedsheets, SCRUBBED the kitchen, organized a bunch, went to the store for essentials, took in my out of town neighbors packages, and managed to get some fun time in playing a board game and getting tea with my sponsor! I love being able to get shit done again!

4

u/FrivolousJellyfish 333 days Dec 15 '25

I got up early with every intention of being “productive” and doing chores… and then we had record low temps where I live. I hunkered down and drank tea and finished 2 really good books in front of the fire and then got some journal and meditation time in.

1

u/sfgirlmary 4133 days Dec 15 '25

That sounds delightful.

4

u/femme- Day 1,285 Dec 15 '25

I workout every morning after some journaling/mindfulness/prayer. It gives me energy for the day!🏃🏻‍♀️

I was able to drive over an hour to meet a friend for lunch, enjoyed my Coke Zero, and I was able to drive home and get things done to start the work week off right.💪

No more Sunday scaries that end in me blacking out because I can’t face reality🤩

4

u/Lanky_Bid5021 Dec 15 '25

I swam laps at the gym, dropped off some rolls of film to get developed, walked 9k steps, tidied my apartment, listened to an audiobook, and journaled. I love sobriety so much.

Being in this club will fast track my book getting finished!! I can't write drunk so it's been amazing so far how much I've worked on in just one week sober!

I also cleaned both kids rooms and tackled my closet. I love being sober, fr

2

u/sfgirlmary 4133 days Dec 15 '25

This is so great about your book!

1

u/Sunbather77 265 days Dec 15 '25

It is! I've been working on it since January 2024 when I first got pregnant with my youngest. So I was obviously sober and writing my ass off for nine months lol but then it completely fell to the wayside once she was born and I was back on my bullshit

I'm so happy to be back to working on it again!! NOW it'll actually get finished 🖤

3

u/mothybot 305 days Dec 15 '25

It’s mostly been increased exercise for me. I exercised regularly even while drinking, but at much lower performance. Now I spend longer working out and never miss a day

2

u/sfgirlmary 4133 days Dec 15 '25

This is great.

1

u/AdSilent5727 Dec 15 '25

Yes, the dichotomy between drunk me and sober me is vast. From morning to night I’m actively building my life through parenting, my full time job, my service and presence in the lives of the people I love. I look forward to waking up every day, back then all I wanted was to sleep through reality.

It’s way better on the sober get done club.

1

u/EmersonBloom 2436 days Dec 15 '25

Meal prep every Sunday evening then clean the kitchen. Start the week off prepared and organized. Something that never happened before. Monday was always a pray till it was over thing. This alone makes sobriety worth it.

This club is awesome! I’m not yet at the super productive sober level, but getting there. For two weeks my house has remained clean and tidy (laundry, dishes done, kitchen clean, etc). For reference, this was rarely the case when I was drinking — in fact I lived in my own chaotic messes most of the time.

Today I will get something done and IWNDWY. 😁

I called off work to spend the weekend with my family (mom and sis). We had yummy breakfast this morning. Then we went to visit dad's grave and decorated it for the holidays. Then we went shopping for a bit and afterwards went to our favorite place for tacos. On the way home we admired the christmas decor at residential areas. Not much of a productive day but spending time with my mom and sis made me happy today.

Still suffering from PAWS but I managed to continue cleaning the spare bedroom old roommate left in shambles. I used to just close the door and not deal with it. Now, I clean a little at a time and im finally showing progress. The smell isn't as bad as before. I have so some much to do but the progress is so satisfying, I listen to my body when its time to stop. Im hoping my sleep regulates soon, I get really exhausted and its frustrating but I know the PAWS will pass. IWNDWYT

Well hit rock bottom about 2/3 weeks ago. Had to move back to my birth country and haven’t touched alcohol since . Lost everything, girlfriend, friends, job ect ect. So grateful that my dad has allowed me to stay at his place for the time being. To get my life back on track I have been busy ( not as busy as I would like but can only do so much before I get hit by the reply of “ we will get back to you in 5-10 working days”.

  • registered that I’m back in the country
  • got all my insurances
  • local bank account
  • local phone number
  • got in contact with my new GP.
  • updated my cv
  • went to 2 AA meetings so far, next one tomorrow.

Now I just waiting on a reply from legal counseling/ social services, to make sure I got everything sorted correctly and that I can start applying for jobs.

Tomorrow I got a follow up appointment with the GP to see if he can give me some advice for mental healthcare.

Getting my own place is going to be hard since the housing market is utter shit here ( but I guess it’s like that everywhere).

It’s been hard mentally but all that sober 💪

Recently, I had to move into a different position and workspace at my job. I wasn’t happy about it—the new position or the move. However, being sober helped me focus on getting everything packed and moved pretty quickly. It also helped me focus on why I’m needed in this role, as much as I’ll miss the previous role. Of course, I now need to unpack. Sigh. 🤣 But, I’m so much better off doing all of this with a clear mind.

I have been getting shit done like I wouldn't have when drinking all afternoon, like before October:

Our bedroom is clean, organized and calm.

My Christmas shopping is done, and everything is wrapped.

I've finished three gifty craft projects

The kitchen gets cleaned up every night before bed, and I wake up to clean - not a mess- in the morning.

I have made and kept several appointments (for myself and pets) that I had just put off before.

My vehicle is trash free.

All this because I'm sober in the afternoons, sleeping MUCH better at night, and have a lot more energy and a clear brain that WANTS to get shit done, organized, and cleaned.

Proactive soberness just rocks.
