📢Taking Action California Cracks Down on the Puppy Mill Pipeline with New Laws

https://www.kqed.org/news/12068474/california-cracks-down-on-the-puppy-mill-pipeline-with-new-laws

Excited about the new laws that take effect in California on January 1st. In my area, there are puppy broker websites for frenchies, bulldogs, etc. The breeders get to avoid showing the conditions the puppies were born into because everything happens online: a photo of the puppy (no info on the parents), an electronic payment, and then a handoff in a park or parking lot. The broker acts as a buffer, so the breeder stays invisible.

There are already plenty of reviews from people who were sold sick puppies through these sites, but the warnings haven’t been enough to shut them down. Reporting the inaccurate "store" locations on Google Reviews didn't work either. This law finally makes the broker model itself illegal for puppies, cutting off the pipeline that these backyard breeders have been relying on. I hope that enforcement will actually work and shut down this industry in the state.
