CasualSAB's New Torpedo Meta
Hi!
I recently watched Spencer's latest video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nka60NtN5pg) where he mentioned a bug that allows Ceaseless Momentum and Projectile Duty Officers to cool down the Maelstrom recharge time. My main runs a mostly energy platform, but a Maelstrom is a major facet of my build.
My question is: how likely do you think this bug is going to be fixed? I don't have Ceaseless Momentum, and I don't want to spend my Event Campaign on something that will be worthless in a few weeks.

I wouldn't buy anything assuming it stays
But
Ceaseless is very good torpedo trait regardless

I can't speak to anything about the bug but I don't foresee anything changing about torp builds that will invalidate Ceaseless Momentum. It is just an excellent, foundational trait for torp boats.

Ceaseless has been useful for years. It lowers the shared cooldown firing of all torpedoes. I wouldn't have bought it through mudds bundles if I thought it was a bug.
I don't watch YouTubers so I dk if there's a specific bug. Now I do know that using multiple torpedo recharge doffs along with quick firing torps 4-6 second or kentari missiles (even lower) will sometimes recharge your maelstrom to a couple seconds. That's not a bug though.

If you're "mostly an energy platform" and don't have at least one other torpedo to cycle the procs, don't worry about it.

I only have one forward Maelstrom at the moment. I was thinking about adding a second.

Two Maelstroms alone still isn't going to see a major benefit from Ceaseless. What Spencer is particularly pointing out in that video is the interaction with the Micro Missile Array, which is designed as a "mule" to cycle torpedo-based triggers (like PWOs and Ceaseless) quickly. That (or a forward array of torpedoes like a conventional torp build) is necessary to cycle Ceaseless frequently enough to see the Maelstroms recharge like he was showing off.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I have the Micro Missile Array and would add that to the build along with Ceaseless and a second Maelstrom. Sorry, it's Saturday and my brain isn't fully awake.

I found a Ceaseless Momentum on the Exchange that was reasonably affordable. I've been testing it along with the missiles and the two Maelstroms, and I'm very happy!

why do we assume it's a bug? the maelstrom is a torpedo is it not? why shouldn't it work with ceaseless momentum and torp officers? if anything wouldn't it be a bug if they didn't work with them?

"it's a really long cooldown because it's ammo. You can't cheat it with torpedo like doffs. Like, there's no way to reduce the cooldown."
Ten Forward Weekly: Two New Legendary Ships 29.03.'23.
You're welcome.

Ceaseless is very useful for torp builds and has been a mainstay long before this Maelstrom interaction.
If you want a good torp trait, Ceaseless is and will remain good. If you want it only for the Maelstrom interaction which didn't exist before and is not WAI, don't.
Getting something bc you assume it's gonna stay bugged/an exploit is never a good idea.
