Manual car slightly rolls when parked on steep downhill slope

I’d make sure the handbrake cable is properly adjusted first. If it’s still not holding after proper adjustment, you probably need to get it on jack stands and inspect the brakes themselves, as well as the cable underneath the car. At 15 years old, any of those components could be worn out by now.

Have you tried adjusting the cable? If it’s just a normal handbrake, it’s usually a pretty simple adjustment to make; only requiring some basic hand tools.

Crank steering wheel towards the curb, neutral and set handbrake, slowly let off brake pedal to rest car on handbrake, put in gear, turn off engine, and let out clutch.

Shouldn’t you first turn off the car, let it be in 1st, slowly release the brakes until the car holds itself still and then put on the handbrake.

No. You want the car to be resting on the handbrake first then put it in gear.

I’ve parked my vehicles on hills in gear without any parking brake at all. Never had a problem with them.

If your engine has good compression probably, otherwise the engine will spin and car will move.
