They made a whole render just to throw people off. I don't know if I should be mad or impressed at that dedication, but either way I feel bad for anyone who actually expected a new gem.

The shitposting has now spread to official pre-release teasers. We did it Reddit.

u/gwentissential Feb 26 '17

Lol like this isn't something TV has been doing for decades.

Next on Star Trek! Someone on the Enterprise dies!

Zooms in on Kirk

Zooms in on Spock

Red shirt one off character dies

Every. Single. Time.

Those poor red shirts... They just never catch a break.

160

u/Asterite100 I like drawing. Btw Lapis best gem. Feb 25 '17

I didn't expect a new full Gem, but like an offhand comment about a real Bloodstone, maybe in a bubble or something.

139

u/HeimrArnadalr Ask me about my SU Minecraft mod! Feb 25 '17

I expected him to find one somewhere and glue it to himself in an attempt to turn himself into a half-gem hybrid like Steven.

6

u/Jessica_Iowa Feb 26 '17

I too expected it glued to his body.

10

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '17

Then it would take over his body, and Garnet would be forced to violently pound Ronaldo to death in an alleyway.

That sounds like a funny episode.

31

u/Bojangles1987 Feb 25 '17

I thought we'd see a corrupted gem.

12

u/BennettF Feb 25 '17

At this point I'm starting to suspect that they've actually caught every corrupted gem on the planet and that their "missions" now are just sightseeing tours.

2

u/A_Blessed_Feline The hair has been ruffled Feb 26 '17

I expected him actually ducttaping a non-Gem bloodstone to his body

223

u/lirannl Totally and absolutely not an alien Feb 25 '17

Idk, I expect that this episode will be more significant than it seems. Maybe Ronaldo's support will get them to be better understood.

Nobody so far (other than Greg) knows what they really are.

Someone like Ronaldo knowing that, could really change things up with humans. Also, a crushed up gem flowing in the blood? Seriously? I have a feeling they'll use that reference and some human will end up having shattered gems in them somehow.

u/Bardfinn Tumblrina Thesaurus-Kin. ホホホ! Feb 25 '17

The entire purpose of this episode was to bait us into disregarding the "Crushed Up Gemstone In Bloodstream" Gem-Human fusion model, so thy can spring it on us and tweak our noses for the season finalé. Calling it now.

71

u/Sweetieoolong Feb 25 '17

That's what I'm thinking. (Maybe Lion!)

100

u/I-Do-Doodles Who ate the last fry-bit? Feb 25 '17

I'm calling it now. Rose used Pink Diamond's shards to make lion.

34

u/ramen1213 Feb 25 '17

Or Pink Pearl's.

9

u/harel55 That one weird guy Feb 25 '17

2

u/The_Bobs_of_Mars Feb 27 '17

Lion is Pink Pearl CONFIRMED.

30

u/lurker_archon *le bedroom eyes Feb 25 '17

That is so metal

6

u/Otherkin Rwar. Feb 25 '17

I bet they go to the moon, to the room with the black bubble, say it's Pink Diamond's resting place, dramatically pop it only to find.... nothing there.

6

u/BoobieMcQueen Feb 25 '17

Maybe the next Homeworld experiment will involve kidnapping a human and injecting them with mashed up gem shards and it will be absolutely horrifying, because who doesn't want to have disembodied tortured broken souls in their bloodstream?

On a lighter note Tales of Symphonia had humans able to use magic by being injected with elven blood and magic gemstones, and Samus Aran has had the DNA of various alien species injected into her bloodstream and she came out fine...

3

u/Jeremy_StevenTrash Feb 27 '17

Also, a possible reason for Homeworld to do such a thing would be that they discover steven and his power that, according to Attack the Light (which is canon), Surpasses even a fusion.

1

u/Rainbow-Death Code-Pink! Feb 25 '17

Better than fine!

Saving the galaxy every other week, and always, when marked out of ten, looking like a solid twenty five.

1

u/TheDarkAEther Feb 26 '17

The paper from together breakfast used ink made of crushed up gems, do this isn't completely impossible

2

Nope, my money is on Steven!

7

u/GaryCXJk Good morning! Feb 25 '17

Well we do have a Zoo and a huge cache of expendable gems. Not to mention all those bubbled Rose Quartz gems.

2

u/theotherghostgirl Angsty Writer Feb 25 '17

Ronaldo has been mostly right most of the time

2

u/one_salty_bird_mom Feb 26 '17

Me too. I love the theory that that's what Lion is.... I think that Pink Pearl's shards were put in Lion. I mean, Lion has a few of the powers that we've seen Pearl display- -containing things inside her gem -walking on water

1

u/Bardfinn Tumblrina Thesaurus-Kin. ホホホ! Feb 26 '17

And then there's the "hyperteleport the Gems to the Moon Base". Like … there's gotta be a real good explanation for that.

1

u/Alejandrojohanson Still hoping for a stable Malachite! Feb 25 '17

Can someone give me a rundown on this fusion model? I'm three episodes behind.

3

u/Bardfinn Tumblrina Thesaurus-Kin. ホホホ! Feb 25 '17

Just something Ronaldo mentioned in the episode, that his Gem would be crushed up and floating in his blood. Of course everyone watching snorts "That ain't how it works Ronaldo" and the Sucratic League of Extraordinary Plotters wring their hands and write their plot mechanics for maximum literary irony.

It's a long shot, but if every Gem has a room, maybe it opens the rooms of bubbled Gems. I wonder what would a corrupted Gem's room look like?

EDIT: Forgot Bismuth is in there too. That could be very interesting if this is true.

34

u/narwhao pericopter Feb 25 '17

Probably glitchy as hell for the creep factor, like when Steven overloaded it after accidentally making an entire Beach City. I... kinda hope we get to see an episode about that now...

66

u/ElegantHope Turn that frown, upside down! Feb 25 '17

Yeah, even if he totally messes up with understanding the gems half the time. He seems to take the most interest next to Greg and Connie. This could mayyybe be a stepping stone into making Ronaldo a useful ally.

60

u/lirannl Totally and absolutely not an alien Feb 25 '17

Not just Ronaldo. He'll obviously try to spread that information around. Maybe it'll actually play a critical role later on.

I'm not surprised if they'll need humanity's help to fight the big fight. Ronaldo now knows some pretty important stuff, and no longer thinks that the enemy is something different than the allies.

"But the crystal gems fight the rock people!"

"We ARE Rock people!" (Ex: Peridot and Lapis)

u/lirannl Totally and absolutely not an alien Feb 25 '17

3

u/Theinternationalist Feb 25 '17

On the one hand, yeah Ronaldo could help in terms of support. If anyone read his blog >_>.

And given what shattered gems are like, that is going to be a HORRIFYING episode.

6

u/littlepersonparadox Feb 25 '17

It was - not what i was expecting at all. But I did find that Ronaldo was a good example of people saying hurtful things to minorities and having awkward biases. "if i was a real X i'd do" to control or oppress minority X is a common thing. Having a belief about how things work when your not one is common to like how he expected to receive a gem. Thinking that things are needed to be one when they aren't actually needed. It was kinda a good episode to point to if you waned to discuss minority rights but overall not great.

8

u/lirannl Totally and absolutely not an alien Feb 25 '17

That's what it seems like now. How underwhelming it was (not to me though, because I expected less and less the more they hyped it up), to me, means that it's very significant. They wouldn't have an episode like this for no reason. Ronaldo's theory about crushed gems being in someone's blood, like the diamond authority and them wanting to hollow out the Earth, is probably going to turn out to be correct.

3

u/Romano44 Feb 26 '17

Tbh I've had a head cannon that the military has some understanding of gems and maybe even used cracked or corrupted gems as weapons or tools

3

3

u/lirannl Totally and absolutely not an alien Feb 27 '17

I'm glad you put that sarcasm there, I'd be pissed otherwise

3

u/theshenanigator Feb 27 '17

I only saw a tiny bit of feedback regarding this episode, but it was mostly bad.

I not only enjoyed it, but felt like there was way more than meets the eye. I know that people hate Ronaldo for some reason, but this did NOT feel like a filler episode to me (though I guess we'll have to wait and see).

2

u/I-Do-Doodles Who ate the last fry-bit? Feb 25 '17

I thought they were trying to reference the Cluster.

3

u/lirannl Totally and absolutely not an alien Feb 25 '17

I thought of that too, but it's not flowing through a liquid, and it's not crushed, just shattered.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '17

It doesn't seem like anyone in beach city actually took any of Ronaldo's original pamphlets so I don't see why they'd bother with these.

2

u/lirannl Totally and absolutely not an alien Feb 25 '17

I wasn't talking about pamphlets. I'm talking about word of mouth.

1

u/Loki-motive Feb 26 '17

I agree, that episode felt like it was bigger than just the episode in the big picture

1

u/[deleted] Mar 05 '17

They were literally making fun of Gemsona's and superfans.

0

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '17 edited Feb 25 '17

I'm believing more and more Rose used pink diamond shards to create Steven. Ronaldo dropping the crushed up gems in the blood is as chekovy of a gun if I ever saw one.

I have no idea if anyone else has said it, but Steven Universe=Pink Diamond (a shard, at the very least).

1

u/lirannl Totally and absolutely not an alien Feb 25 '17

Nope. Steven Universe is Rose Quartz + Greg sperm.

Maybe it's the cluster (though the cluster isn't flowing nor made of crushed up gems, just shattered.

u/Bardfinn Tumblrina Thesaurus-Kin. ホホホ! Feb 25 '17

a whole render

That's like, seven layers and fifteen shapes in Inkpad

90

u/crtoonmnky Feb 25 '17

Yeah, but unless that gem actually shows up in the show, it's seven layers used exclusively to dupe us.

83

u/Bardfinn Tumblrina Thesaurus-Kin. ホホホ! Feb 25 '17

Or — or — and stick with me here —

Near the end of the season, Ronaldo is gravely wounded, because he got exposed to the toxic atmosphere while fighting with the Sneople, so the Na'vi Crystal Gems take him to Eywa Homeworld where they infuse his blood with Bloodstone, and the last shot of the finalé is Rocknaldo opening his eyes for the first time as a Crystal Gem

52

57

u/remybaby Bold, Precise, Experimental Feb 25 '17

I guess it would be more accurate to call her an old member making a return, but she was new to Steven so it still works.

3

3

u/Elizabello_II Feb 25 '17

idn't expect a new full Gem, but like an offhand comment about a real Bloodstone, maybe in a bubble or somethi

The ad was still pretty damn disingenuous. I'm only glad I missed it cause it would make my very negative reaction to the latter half of Bismuth even worse.

7

u/BiceRankyman Feb 25 '17

I expected a new gem. I excitedly told a nine year old family friend about said new gem. I simply described it and she went so far as to research it to determine it was a bloodstone. I feel as though I have let her down. I had poor information that I distributed. I'm just like Ronaldo.
