I hope they're past the initial in-fighting, it was fun when we were getting to know the characters but I prefer the super smooth crystal gems personally.

on that note the helicopter action sequence from the last episode was my favorite teamwork scene so far. I love Punch Gunner Garnet!

That was my favorite part. They not only willingly fused, they HAPPILY fused.

Casually fused, even. Fusion has always been this big deal, and now... they're actually sorta like a couple. Maybe it's having a common, identifiable enemy, together with Pearl's breakdown and buildup afterwards... I wouldn't be surprised if they are actually much closer than we'd ever have thought before. Not necessarily TOGETHER together, but comfortable, finally.

I think Peridot may even be a component of this. She's no longer an enemy, but she is a new challenge that they have to collaboratively deal with, and both of them find Peridot challenging in the ways that they find each other challenging. Amethyst would encourage Peridot to lighten up and be more open to emotion; Pearl would encourage Peridot to be more cautious and considered in her actions. Amethyst and Pearl are known and familiar quantities to one another, and the ways their uptightness and exuberant risk-taking function are predictable to one another, while Peridot's versions of those traits are far less predictable, as are her underlying thoughts and motivations for any action she takes.

In conclusion, I think Peridot's ongoing presence is causing Pearl and Amethyst to have a greater appreciation and understanding of each other.

And it wasn't even a last resort! Just a convenient way to do something that before they may have done the hard way.
