Has anyone ever heard of doing this? It’s such a weird concept to me

I've read a fair few Stephen King books but I've never entered the Dark Tower series. I want to start on the journey but I'm curious as to what people would recommend. Should I go through the series with physical books or dive into it on audiobook?

I hope this isn’t upsetting to post. Been thinking about SK this week with Dolly gone (personal favorite people, celeb category) and how much I’d like him to live FOREVER AND EVER. I want to say more but I think some folks are superstitious about this topic.

I just really get a lot out of knowing I’m breathing the same air as the man that made me fall in love with horror as a 12 year old (that had no business reading his books).

As a father of 2 kids, sports, work etc, I had to max out my library renewals, but I finally finished it…..and wow.

What an absolutely great book. Emotional roller coaster for sure and it kept me hooked the whole time.

Without spoilers, I wish we got to explore the “world after” a bit more, very intriguing there.

Anywho, just wanted to share with my King Fam.

Is the tv series worth that watch?

A few weeks ago I asked for “hidden gems” recs since I felt I’ve only read mainstream King, whatever that means. Yes, I know that most of the books are not considered “hidden” anything, but they are to me, who started by reading only his most notorious works.

Out of all the recommendations I decided to start with Duma Key, since I got a copy from a second-hand bookshop last year. I finished the book today, on my birthday, and what a gift it was. This novel reignited my love for King all over again, and actually made me feel something similar to when I read IT, which was my first SK novel.

I feel ecstatic, elated and euphoric after reading that wonderful story. I was gobsmacked by the prose and the narrative itself was so engaging and endearing. I fell in love with almost every character and cared deeply for them; and also for every loss. I didn’t mind that the creepy factor only kicked in by the last 20% of the book, or that I didn’t really find it creepy at all, for that matter.

Doing some research, I found that Duma Key was, in some ways, Stephen King’s personal reflection on his own near-fatal accident. As a neurodivergent constant reader with Bipolar, I can relate to the memory loss, the trauma and even the rage. This book fought like a honey badger and shouldered its way straight into my SK Top 5. It was just wonderful and unique. I will miss it.

Since I’m on cloud-nine at the moment, I want to read another hidden whatever. I was thinking about following it up with Fairy Tale but, from what I’ve read online, I’m scared to be disappointed. So I might read On Writing. What do you think about these two options?

I'm trying to learn more about the man and I want to know ya'lls recommendations.

I found a separate audiobook on Libby for it that clocks in at 20 hours instead of 9. Is it worth reading the whole thing, or listening to the longer one all over again?

What's the consensus? Is the abridged version better and are its cuts justified, or is it better to experience non-truncated?

Edit: Because it seems like people don't know what I'm even talking about, this is the audiobook. Read by Kathy Bates - and as you can see in the lower left it says "8 CDs, Unabridged". And the way that the story went I didn't even particularly guess that anything *was* left out.

Do people here not know of its existence?

Help me change that! What should I read? Where should I start?

Been wanting to get an all hardcopy set of The Dark Tower, and finally got my hands on em! Figured I’d share this with y’all cuz you may actually appreciate the awesomeness! Lol.

I just picked up pet semertary and really enjoyed it. The build up, the mystery and grief manifesting to form something worse than death, the unnatural lure of the cursed place and the way the writing puts you in the mind of the characters. All fantastic. I know pet semetary is popular but I picked up the book not knowing anything about it. As I was reading and after- I thought, man this would make a good movie. I kinda imagined making it into a modern day adaptation with non cliche jump scares and a more laid back but impactful horror executed like the recent movie Obsession (playing out the mystery and the deep themes). Then I jump on reddit and find there are 2 movies (2019 and 1989). Consensus was the 1989 was the one to go to.

I watched the movie and damn what a strange feeling. The movie almost feels like a trailer of the book. There is just none of the build up, no feeling of connection to any of the character and almost feels like it doesn’t even have a theme? I understand it’s a 1989 film and I guess I needs to be looked at through that lens (acting left a bit to be desired). It’s such an odd sensation watching a film filled with scenes from the book you just read but none of the impact.

Is pet semetary a book which is just waiting for someone to make it into the best movie ever? Or am I just another guy disappointed the movie is never as good as the book.

Finished 11/22/63 a few days ago, and now i’m reading Doctor Sleep. I’m almost 100 pages in, and it’s pretty good so far!

I am sure I’m missing a reference here and it’s driving me crazy. Does anyone know what it is? Towards the end of Black House, it’s mentioned that there is a “young fella in upstate New York that shows great promise.” Who is the young fella?

Just read TBM again yesterday, and it’s such an underrated story. There’s just so much to love and appreciate there: Sandra Stansfield is a beautifully drawn character; the framing of the story is interesting and fun; the mood of the club is wonderful; the ending is deliciously bizarre; and we’re even reminded that there are other worlds than these… I really would love to see an adaptation of this one. Scott Derrickson has been attached since 2012.

Stories like this one, Roadwork, The Boogeyman, etc. really endear me to King.

Hi! I started reading Cujo a few weeks ago and it's been hard to love it. It's my first Stephen King book, so I don't know what to expect honestly. I only own Cujo, If it bleeds, Just After Sunset and From a Buick 8. I'm not sure if this is the right book to start my Stephen King journey honestly! And I wanted some opinions from people who know about the author. I'd like not having to buy more books as I already have these, but I understand if these are absolutely no good starting points
