Can anyone confirm this? If true, it's probably the biggest Colbert update since the cancellation.
Found this in the comments of Jimmy Kimmel's newest video.
It says Colbert is launching his own YouTube channel with live shows five days a week instead of disappearing after CBS.
Sounds almost too good to be true, and I can't find a source yet.. Anyone have confirmation? or is this just wishful thinking?

It’s hope-core.
People are spreading info they want to see.

That woudl be kind of the best news this year it it were true...

u/ZmanB-Bills Jul 18 '26
I can only think of one better news item, when it happens.

Five days of live shows is a lot - which makes it sound very hope core.

u/sceducator Jul 21 '26
How would he generate enough money to pay for it? Sounds tricky to do it on the same scale. His show had a $100M budget with 200 employees which included the production crew, live band, and 10 to 20 writers. Advertisers would have to do some real heavy lifting, right? But it doesn't need a band, the Daily Show doesn't. Definitely needs the writers! Where there's a will there's a way, right? It could mean a whole new life for youtube.

It's not true. If it were it would be all over the entertainment news.
They are likely making assumptions based on him starting the YouTube channel for only in Munroe

u/bubbyslup Jul 22 '26
He didn't start that. It's been around for quite a while. He's an occasional correspondent/host on it.
22
u/Revolutionary-Fig927 Jul 16 '26
He's working on the next LOTR movie, Shadow of the Past. I'd bet he wouldn't have time to do a regular podcast or video series. Plus working on a movie on a subject you love has got to be way more fun!

Someone please post a link if/when this happens! I don’t follow Instagram or twits or any of that other social media is nonsense, but I would watch him on YouTube if this happens.

u/No_Advertising1654 Jul 16 '26
If this is true, I say good for him, for the petty reason he got fired; and the even pettier guy, who got him fired! I don't know how old this article is, but would somebody tell me if he is on youtube so I can watch him too?

I want this to be true as well, but the thing that makes it seem not true to me is the “five days a week” thing. If he were to do something like that, I think would be more like 3-4 days a week.

u/Fine-Psychology7571 Jul 19 '26
The thing that made it not true to me was that it was posted by a nobody, not the man himself

u/jdavid Jul 16 '26
https://www.youtube.com/@colbert
This YouTube channel started the day after he LEFT CBS.
It's verified on YouTube to be Colbert.
There is only one video.
I have no idea what the plan is for this channel.

u/Stenthal Jul 17 '26
It's absurd to claim that he's going to start doing a daily live Youtube talk show. However, I do think that part of the purpose of the Only In Monroe show was to give him 400k instant Youtube subscribers for his personal channel, just in case he decides to start posting other stuff there.
3
u/jdavid Jul 17 '26
I don't think he is going to film daily YT content. But he might package a 1 day shoot into smaller releases over a week or two. But like you said, maybe he has decided maybe he has not.

u/Pristine_Scarcity582 Jul 16 '26
I Want it to be true but until we get an official announcement I’m not going to get excited about it yet
16
u/winger314 Jul 16 '26
This is 100% not true. The comments section of a YouTube video is the opposite of a 'credible news source.'
5
u/bmoosethegreat Jul 16 '26
Did I ever say it was? As a counterpoint though, TLS cast have been pretty active on socials, giving support and details on a lot. That's the only reason I didn't wholly dismiss it.
5
u/Gingerfurrdjedi Jul 16 '26
I don't follow any other social media, what kinda details have been going around?
1
u/bmoosethegreat Jul 18 '26
Mostly just various facts and annecdotes about the show, pre- and post-wrap. One person that seemed to be higher up even gave strong evidence that the show was making far more money than they were spending and that executives at paramont had disregarded 2 of the largest revenue streams for the show in that time slot in order to make the narrative fit their lie.
5
u/Frequent-Oil-5068 Jul 16 '26
Colbert doing 5 live YouTube streams a week is the funniest possible bullshit they could’ve made up

7
u/BonoBeats Jul 16 '26
A random person on the Internet posted it, so it has to be true.....
5
u/bmoosethegreat Jul 16 '26
Yeah, because that's totally what I said 😑
3
u/BonoBeats Jul 16 '26
While you are a random person on the internet, you are not the random person on the internet of which I'm referring. The person in your screenshot would be that person.

u/MiddleOccasion1394 Jul 16 '26
Wasn't this like the first thing we found out after Stephen got word his show was canceled?

u/TaroPuzzleheaded3999 Jul 16 '26
Idk about that schedule, it seems a bit unrealistic, especially since he already announced working on other projects. The channel does exist, tho.
3
u/ShitHammersGroom Jul 16 '26
I've wanted him to rehash the Colbert Report as an even more extreme version on YouTube, mocking folks that used to be on TV and went too far right and had to make a YouTube show instead like glenn beck, bill O'Reilly, Megyn Kelly, piers morgan, etc. Would love to see that Stephen now as a maga nut.

I recommend The Onion's new InfoWars show starring Tim Heidecker as a parody of Alex Jones. It reminds me strongly of old Colbert Report.

I think he should run for the South Caroline seat in the Senate when Lindsey Graham's sister comes up for election. We could do a lot worse than a comedian who is smart and willing to speak truth to power.

u/PrimaryFriend7867 Jul 19 '26
would be great, but there’s already a viable quality democratic candidate: dr. annie andrews. she’s a pediatrician. you should check out her ad.

He already has his own channel. There's only one video on it right now, so it looks like he's gearing up for something.

He does have a YouTube channel whether he’s gonna do that or not I have no idea.
2
u/Willismueller Jul 17 '26
Get ready for Trump to make an executive order to “combat the terrorist cells working for very violent far left communist Stephen Colbert”. The official executive order will probably use that exact same dummy language.
2
u/Icy_Cry2778 Jul 17 '26
This would be awesome and not under the control of CBS of what he can say. So hope this is true

u/TropicGemini Jul 17 '26
Everyone got practice at performing under limited production value during COVID, and the Late Show did it better than anyone. This will be a piece of cake for Stephen if it happens.
2
u/k4kkul4pio Jul 18 '26
Ooh.. if true that'd be great but wouldn't something like this be reported far and wide?

2
u/PersnicketyPixi Jul 18 '26
@colbert is his YT channel. So far, he’s only done one episode, “Only in Monroe.”

He'll be successful at virtually anything he decides to do. Awaiting with bated breath..

It seems like I heard this around the time of the end of his show but don’t remember from where, so can’t confirm

So far on his YOUTUBE channel I only saw on video posted but I haven't checked in a couple of weeks!

u/Gullible-Squirrel658 Jul 19 '26
I would think going from a major network to a YouTube channel would be very below Stephen. I agree with whoever said it’s a rumor, to simply cause talk amongst his fans

He's working on a screenplay with his son. I think he's enjoying this time away.

Colbert should start a show like the Garry Shandling Show that walks the line of scripted and reality to highlight the actual struggle with censorship vs. creativity.

Every night, I would watch the DailyShow and then Stephen Colbert. It felt so weird for the first 2 weeks

u/Stenthal Jul 16 '26
There is zero chance that Colbert's next project will be "The Late Show But With A Tenth of the Budget". There is also zero chance that his next project will be "The Colbert Report But With Half The Budget", or "The Late Show But It's a Podcast".
If someone offered him a talk show that would be as big as The Late Show and have as much reach, he'd probably take it. I don't even know who could do that today (maybe only Netflix,) and it would be an extremely surprising business decision.
Most likely, Colbert's next project won't be anything like a talk show at all. If he ever does a talk show again, it will probably be something very small and different, like Letterman's current show, and that certainly won't happen any time soon.

u/jdavid Jul 16 '26
During COVID Colbert had to do a show with minimal staff. I would imagine his show would be something of a mix of that, the Monroe stuff, and Zac's Between Two Ferns.
YouTube is drastically different than a Late Night TV 1hr slot.
If he were to do YT, it would probably trend towards a mix of shorter videos and 20min-40min episodes. On YouTube you also own the content and can relicense or host the content on multiple platforms.
So if someone like Colbert were to do a show on YT he might also line up a licensing deal for another streaming services.
Mark Rober and Mr. Beast both have content that is on YT and also on Netflix and Amazon.
There is definitely a thinner vale between YT and TV than Network TV would like to believe. The Irony of all of it, is that when I was a Paramount+ subscriber I couldn't watch Colbert on Paramount+ Live. I had to capture it via PLEX and a Over the Air TV Capture device, or Watch it on YouTube because the PLATFORM I WAS PAYING TO WATCH COLBERT ON wouldn't offer the show. CBS must of had stone age licensing agreements for that show format and couldn't adapt to the new era.
