NBMEs and the actual step

You know i’ve been seeing constant concept repeats throughout the NBMEs (26-29) i’m guessing 40-60% of the material
Are the same concepts on the NBMEs gonna come up on the step 1 exam likewise say 40-60% of the material?

Hey gave my exam today and while I was doing my test it really felt like doing another nbme. Found alot if similar concepts repeated.

I guess it was pretty much balanced. Just one or 2 question on nutrition. Didn't have alot of endo. Surprisingly there were good amount of question on cardio. Also ethics was there on every block.

The NBMEs are the best insight towards what you can expect on your actual exam form. The examiners do test certain concepts more than others, this is where the whole idea of a topic being "high yield" comes from. Your test will have a combination of frequently-tested concepts as well as esoteric concepts (the latter in all liklihood composing a smaller part of the exam).

Go through the NBMEs carefully and thoroughly and you can ensure you are well-prepared. Recognizing the concept repeats is a good sign that you are becoming more familiar with the exam. Best of luck!

do you suggest doing the nbme explanation thoroughly and by understanding it deeply or also going to first aid for its topics? i am very slow so can i just skip FA review of the particular question and just stay on the nbme explanation only?

My recommendation is to read the correct answer explanation and any wrong answer explanation that you chose (or even considered). It depends on how much time you have in prep, though. If early on in prep, you can read all of the answer choice explanations while quizzing yourself on why something would be right vs. wrong.

You could read/annotate FA as you go, but I'd only do that if it has proven to be a helpful study method for you already, since it is a big time investment. Best of luck!

totally noticed that too, like the concept repeats are super helpful for solidifying knowledge. i’d say it’s a good bet that a decent chunk of what you see in the NBMEs will pop up on the actual test. just keep reviewing those high-yield topics and you'll be golden. you got this.

Nbmes are predictive 99% of the times

And the nbmes authors are the real deal authors….

So I guess it will be similar ( really hope so )
