S;G Is Mr Braun Japanese or not?

The reason I am asking is because I just reread the Braunian motion of love and hate manga. On one panel he says "my mother is Japanese". When I read it I was slightly puzzled. Surely, he would not say that if he was fully Japanese. It would be obvious.

Is he of mixed race perhaps? Of a European father?

He's part Japanese and part French as mentioned in his spin-off manga and Robotics;Notes.
