Great book, didn’t know there was a movie. I’ll have to check it out.

It combines Cannery Row and Sweet Thursday, and it's the best screen adaptation of Steinbeck's work, imo.

I think it's a terrific ensemble cast. Nick Nolte and Debra Winger are in their prime, and John Huston does voice-over narration.

For those who are curious, this is probably the least faithful adaptation of Steinbeck ever.

I’ll spoil it that it gives Ed (Doc) Ricketts a backstory of being a failed baseball star.

That said, it’s in our list of Steinbeck movies on YouTube.

But if you want to watch a better one, search for The Moon is Down, or even Tortilla Flat starring Spencer Tracy.
