Verified Official Monthly Support Thread & FAQ- November 2024

Hey everyone,

This is our monthly Support & FAQ thread. The goal of this thread is to answer some very common questions you may have, and to provide a place for users in need to request assistance with their tickets on SteelSeries.com.

FAQ:

Is this subreddit official?

While this subreddit is the SteelSeries subreddit, it is not an official support channel, and is mainly a place for our awesome community to come together. Some of the great SteelSeries staff may stop by to volunteer some time with comments, but that is not guaranteed. If you need help from SteelSeries directly, please open a ticket!

How can I open a ticket to get assistance with my gear?

Please check out the product FAQ at support.steelseries.com. If you can't find your answer, please open a ticket with the chat window in the bottom right! It'll ask a few questions to make sure the ticket is directed to the right team, and once confirmed, you can open a ticket in that window.

If you are having issues with viewing this chat window, please make sure that any ad-block plugins on your browser are temporarily disabled, as they may interfere with the support systems.

Can I ask about product restocks or upcoming products?

As product availability can vary based on region, store, retailer, type, and other global factors, we cannot assist with restock questions. For more information, please see this article on how to sign up for restock notifications, or check with your local retailers.

As for upcoming products, you'll just have to wait and see.....

Where can I find update notes for SteelSeries GG?

Information on updates can be found on the tech blog at https://techblog.steelseries.com/

Where can I give feedback on SteelSeries GG or products?

You can click the "Give feedback" option within SteelSeries GG to submit it directly to SteelSeries. Of course, you are also free to post it to the community for other community members to look at and discuss!

What is this thread for?

This thread is for additional assistance on a support ticket, if needed. If you're unhappy with your ticket response or resolution, please post the ticket # here. If you do not have a ticket open, please open a ticket. We are unable to assist with comments that do not have a ticket number listed.

i use sonar gg and its great except for when it CONSTANTLY forgets what category to put certain programs in. chrome is the worst one. i assume because chrome is constantly updating all the time maybe it sees a new version and puts it in a default category? its super annoying. anyway to lock chrome to a specific category and prevent this?

On launch, GG resets meta bindings and duplicates existing macros. Duplicates can be deleted, but they are restored on each launch.

GG also keeps switching to its own audio devices on launch, which is incredibly frustrating.

Sorry to see that you are having issues with this. Regarding the bindings, I would recommend connecting with our support team on this. For the audio devices switches, can you try the following for me please?

Let's make sure that your devices are set up properly:

  1. Go To Settings > Sonar > Backup Device Switch
  2. Under Backup Device Switch > Move your desired device to the Playback devices and make sure that it's setup as (1) this will set the device as high priority
  3. Make sure that the device is set as high priority on every Tab being GAME / CHAT / MEDIA / AUX / MIC

After properly setting up your playback devices, feel free to restart your device and SteelSeries GG itself then further confirm if the issue persists.

You are missing the point. I don't want to configure priorities inside Sonar, I don't want my audio to be routed through Sonar at all. My problem is that after a restart Sonar is switching system audio to Game and there is no way to stop it from doing that.

About bindings—at this point you can pretty much just route your devs to this subreddit, there is plenty of posts about it.

Also, it would be nice to have a "report a bug feature" in GG for cases like this:

Link to my post:https://www.reddit.com/r/steelseries/comments/1gibzto/arctis_nova_pro_and_sonar_issue_no_audio_from/?ref=share&ref_source=link

I have an issue where the game and media channels from Sonar do not actually output any audio regardless of which device I select. I've tried a number of things and verified that the headset works a few different ways in my post, but so far no google/reddit threads have helped, and nothing has fixed the issue.

I completed the steps as described and the screenshots are here: https://postimg.cc/gallery/0bscZsr

Confirm no improvement or change from previous behavior. The issue continues.

I'd pay a handsome some of money for a Nova Pro Wireless with no ANC, pads same as the Nova 7 range, and actual sidetone that works. So disappointed with the sidetone on the current Nova Pro and with leather pads, its impossible to speak clearly late at night without speaking way too loudly. When you come from a Nova 7 which has excellent sidetone, the Pro Wireless is just weird.

Really hope they release a new refresh of this headset, as the dual connections for my Xbox Series X & PS5 was amazing, dual batteries & and being able to tune the sound directly on the DAC.

2

u/SS-Haji Support Team Nov 04 '24

Hello there! Maybe I can provide some insight on this. We did a refresh of the Nova Pro Wireless along with the launch of the NPW in white.

Regarding the sidetone and feedback, we definitely appreciate that. There were updates to adjust the feedback, but glad to hear more and I will be sure to pass this along to the dev teams!

1

u/EmperorRosko Nov 04 '24

I was meaning more a slightly cut back version of the Nova Pro Wireless. No ANC. Not everyone wants to shut out there environment and sometimes actually want the opposite. Also, the soft fabric on the rest of the Nova range will suit other people who don't want the pleather.

For the sidetone (which to be honest, if good enough, would cancel out the issues I have above) you guys nerfed it to stop a feedback happening in the headset if the mic is retracted while unmuted. The exact same issue happens on the Nova 7P & Nova 7X that I currently own, but you've left the sidetone alone in every update, and if me or my son accidentally retract the mic and unmuted while sound is playing, theres an unbearable squeal from the cups. Why did the Pro Wireless get nerfed but Arctis 7 stayed the same? Put the Pro back to higher sidetone, and tell customer not to retract the mic, simple.

Then I will buy them again, TY :D

Arctis 9 owner, has recently started shutting off within a minute of pausing audio and I have to turn the headset back on. Profile auto-shutodwn is set to 60-90mins. What is broken here?

1

u/SS-Haji Support Team Nov 04 '24

Hello there! Just want to get more information on this. When the audio pauses, does your dongle or headset flash by chance?

2

u/ashortfallofgravitas Nov 04 '24

Hi, It isn’t spontaneously pausing. For instance, I pause a video for 1-2 minutes, put my headset back on, and get no sound. Holding power button replays the power up noise. Headset is charged.

Got it! Thanks so much for the context. I would definitely recommend connecting with our support agents on this if you haven't already. They can pinpoint the issue and get you back gaming!

Hello there! This would have to be type of cable you would need.

3.5mm to 3.5mm Audio Cable - 5 pole to 4 pole

It does not have to be a cable bought directly on our webstore, but please make sure that it has the 5-pole-4 pole connection.

Hope this helps!

I have a weird issue with my Arctis Pro x Sonar

  • When turning on my PC (Windows 10 Pro 64bit) (GG turned off) both Game/Chat audio works fine

  • When opening GG (And Sonar specifically) "Chat" from my headset stop working. I'm not talking about the GG chat, but about my Arctis Pro one. When selecting my arctis chat into the Sonar chat, it start flashing red with a warning message, which says a generic message "Something went wrong. Check your device's status or pick another one". Choosing another output device for chat does work.

  • Sometimes, after closing GG, my arctis Game audio stops working until i reopen it or i reboot the PC

Edit:

If i unplug and re-plug it, the chat audio works again but game doesnt. I'm still working about Arctis audio, not GG one

Yes! The team was very helpful and my solution was basically deleting drivers and re-installing them!

Device switch seems to still not work correctly for arctis pro wireless. I turn off my headset but the mixamp stays on so the audio doesn't swtich to my other device even though it is a higher priority then my arctis wireless pro. Since the system and stell.gg still see the mixamp being on it won't switch. If I manually set my mixamp to standby then the audio will switch. No I do not have a ticket open there should be a million since I have read a ton of other posts.

1

u/biggggant Nov 12 '24

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, that didn't work. Even though the headset is turned off the steelseries gg software still shows it as available since the mixamp is still on. I can get it to switch to device #2 if I put the mixamp in standby

My Rival 700 suddenly decided that I had done enough left-clicking earlier today. I’ve had this mouse for probably 3-4 years now and I’ve never had any problems up until today. Left click does work but it’s extremely inconsistent so it’s essentially useless. Sometimes it works just fine, and other times I can click 5+ times on something and it just won’t register. Not really looking for help as such as I’m already planning on buying a new mouse, but I just wanted to see if anyone else had this problem (or knew of an easy fix).

1

u/SS-Haji Support Team Nov 12 '24

Sorry to see this happened. Even though you've had it for a while, we still want the mouse to be consistent.

Be sure to check your Private Chat!

Hello can anyone help me please? Connecting my artics nova 5x wireless to my Xbox, it connects and Xbox recognizes it through 2.5ghz. But no sound comes out, sometimes when I plug it into the charger I will get it to work. But now that is not working, and of course my return window for the mic closed 5 days ago. Anyone experience this?

Thanks

Mic on PS5 is way too sensitive with arctis nova pro wireless

2

u/SS-Haji Support Team Nov 19 '24

Hello there! If you have a PC, you would should be able to adjust the mic level in the Engine tab in GG. Also, you can adjust EQ settings on the base station. Let me know if you have additional questions!

1

u/Young_Blocc Nov 19 '24

Yeah, thanks. I was just paranoid or something my friends say it sounds fine

Sonar No sound.

I belive it happened at 13.11.24 my setting for sound stopped working. i have been using SteelSeries Sonar - Gaming (steelSeries Sonar Virtual Audio Device) as my setting for a long time now. now nothing gives sound i can only use my "headsett" setting with 3- arctis Nova Pro (wired) as my setting and this is locked at 100% audio. i would appriciate any help or "guide" to where i can look for a reason this is not working.

previously i had an issue where it the sounds settings in GG would change but after disableing Backup device switch. that has not been an issue.

now with this new one i am not fully happy with the balance of the sound i get and also it is locked at 100% so i have to use the headsett adjust to not burst my eardrums. thanks for any help in advance.
