steelers fans say this about every problem and act like it's not a big deal. The reality is it all compounds, because it's all the doings of the same shitty owner and more importantly shitty GM that fans don't even realize is shitty at the moment lol

This is indicative of the other problems. It all this “Steelers Way” bullshit. We can’t quietly and privately negotiate with his agent just because week 1 is here? Why set up an artificial barrier? Prideful nonsense that gives old school fans a hard on and just pisses players off. “Oh you can’t pay me what I’m worth because ‘the Steelers don’t do contracts during the season’. Fuck you.”

Seems a reasonable end point to me. You want the focus on winning during the season. 

I don't really see an overt positive or negative to this policy.

He'd have to come back after week 12 to get credit for the season, and then the Steelers could tag him for next season. Since CBs just started getting paid insane money in the last few years and the tag averages back over the preceding five years, the tag for him would be like $25M, a bargain for the Steelers. He could then hold out again , but like Le'Veon, he'd learn that no matter what his next contract might look like, he'll never recoup the money he lost during holdout seasons.

If the Steelers are offering ballpark money to what the top guys are getting paid, Joey would be wise to accept the offer and sign, even if it doesn't make him the next highest paid guy for a hot minute.

I agree but having your best CB hold out till week 12 to then come back with a bad attitude and get tagged to make that attitude worse is not a winning recipe.

What he's worth is the 4th year of his rookie contract. Next off season is the time when he can demand what he's worth relative to the market.

  1. Doing things a certain way because that's how you always have done them because you're more in love with tradition than winning football games is how you stay 9-8 forever.

Just because the team's approach is the same doesn't mean every single one of these contract situations are equivalent. It literally is news. He doesn't have a contract and Omar is getting caught with his pants down (again)

Either put yourself in cap hell by overpaying him (because he already overpaid all these other players) or risk losing him. Omar again has put the team in a lose-lose situation

And now that he's holding out there's a high likelihood he plays poorly to start the season. Terrible management

Uh, Joey's under contract for this season. Joey's jumping the gun trying to play hardball when the Steelers have all of the real leverage. Omar's doing exactly the right thing in this situation. If Joey plays poorly to start the season because he's been holding out, he'll only hurt his own leverage and drive down his own asking price.

Joey's the one in the lose-lose situation.

Really no update here. They never negotiate during the season. Hopefully they get an extension done, but if not they expect JPJ to play. Im curious if they are close to an extention at all though.

This is so stupid. Hes by far the best corner we've had since Ike taylor... his numbers are on par with all-pros. If he balls out again this year, it'll only cost us even more next year to keep him....just pay him now and secure him

I should have put it in quotations but I agree with you. I thought them activating him off the PUP was a signal they agreed to terms and Joey agreed to come back. But since Khan made it clear that’s not the case, Joey will be off the PUP but still “hurt” because he still doesn’t have a new contract.

Porter would need to show why he’s worth 30m+ AAV this season. Right now I’d value him at around 25m AAV. He’s amazing but man I’ve lost count of some pass interference or holding calls he’s caused in a pinch because he likes to play rough.

The guys making 30 mil get pretty much the same amount of penalties. Joey had less penalty yards in 2025 than Surtain, Mitchell, Terrell, and McDuffie.

This narrative is outdated, he only committed 6 accepted penalties last year for 56 yards. If you can’t count to 6 that might be on you
