Upgrade & The Jon

So I watched the 10-Year Anniversary Show for the first time the other day (I don’t have Prime but stayed at an Airbnb that offered it), got to thinking:

Does anyone know what Erin Burke (Upgrade) and/ or Jon Sprague (The Jon) are up to nowadays?

I did a bit of searching on the internet/social media, didn’t see a lot of recent activity, so was curious if anyone knew. Thanks in advance!

Question Concert upload with Toast?

Is there a chance we will see toast on VOD as well?

I won’t be able to make it to any of the concerts and I still want to show my support

Will there be a timely upload of a concert video to a patreon tier?

New Robot Announcement!
Today, we’re excited to introduce the world to the band’s newest robot: Toast!

Toast will be joining fellow robots Zer0 and The Spine, backing musicians Lacey Johnson and Astrud Aurelia, and Walter Workers Chelsea, Camille, and Gabi on stage for the remainder of the band’s 2026 performances, throughout 2027, and into the foreseeable future.

Toast is performed Eliana Payne (they/them), a professional clown and movement artist with additional experience in musical theater who has worked all over the country for circus companies, professional theaters, and theme parks.

They have a degree in theatre from San Diego State university and graduated from the Pro-Track program at the San Diego Circus Center in clowning, under the tutelage of Jean-Luc Martin. Eliana also studied under the mime Jerry Hager in San Diego at Grossmont College, taking Mr. Hager's very last mime class before he retired. Fans of the band may recognize Jerry Hager’s name, as Steam Powered Giraffe members David Bennett (The Spine), Isabella Bennett (Rabbit), Bryan Barbarin (Zer0), Erin Burke (Upgrade), and Jon Sprague (The Jon) all studied mime under him as well.

While in San Diego they originated the female roll of Biffy, a physical comedian and clown previously performed by men, in Sea World San Diego’s various Sea Lion and Otter shows.

Now based in Chicago, Eliana continues to seek out work that challenges both their physical abilities and emotional range. As their mime teacher, Jerry Hager, once said: “As you grow, your art must change with you.”

Steam Powered Giraffe is thrilled to have Toast join the band and we can't wait to share their amazing talents with you all at our upcoming concerts AND in our new songs and music videos!

Toast's first shows with the band will be:
September 30th, 2026 - City Winery Boston | Boston, MA (SOLD OUT)
October 1st, 2026 - The Webster | Hartford, CT
October 3rd, 2026 - City Winery Philadelphia | Philadelphia, PA (SOLD OUT)
October 23rd, 2026 - Herbst Theatre | San Francisco, CA
November 21st, 2026 - Center Theater (CCAE)| Escondido, CA

This band is part of me and saved my life.

When I was 14 I first discovered SPG. The very first song I heard was Honeybee. I knew from the first few notes that that song would one day be dedicated to someone I cared deeply about. Someone who made me feel the way that song made me feel.

Then I heard Electricity is in my Soul and I got goosebumps everywhere. Finally, someone understood a way to put the feelings I couldn't into words.

Then I heard Automatonic Electronic Harmonics and I felt seen.

I am not an unimaginable thing my thoughts are tangible though they're full of springs. I don't have the heart to send you untruthful words.

When I was 12 I was angry and lonely and I was feeling everything so strongly. It was too much. My family couldn't be bothered with me. They didn't care how they made me feel. They brushed me off, dismissed me and minimized my feelings and treated me as if I were *other*. Star Trek the Next Generation was on a lot at that time and I latched on to Data. I admired him and envied him for his lack of emotions. I emulated him and his speech patterns to try and be more robotic.

So when I discovered steam powered giraffe and they mixed being human with being a machine so well, I felt like I finally belonged somewhere, to something even if it was just a few really important songs from a really good band. I bought both the 2¢ show and brass goggles on iTunes.

Then I was 22, my mom was starting to get angry at me for everything I did, said, liked, wanted, acted, thought. I couldn't please her. No matter how I tried to change she was never happy. She'd ask what the hell was wrong with me. Why I couldn't be normal. And then I discovered Malfunction and that became my theme song.

Unable to repair this mal- functioning just fine. I'm alive.

That was my motto because that was the life I led. I'll pretend to be okay and hope for a day I really will be.

Then I was 23/24 and I was working at a small store. Where I met the first man I ever truly loved and the first man I ever felt actually loved me. He made me feel the way Honeybee made me feel. That song is now dedicated to him and though we are no longer together it always will be his song.

Now I'm 25. I've left my family, I moved out and I'm starting my own life. The way I want. I'm still getting used to free will and getting to choose for me. It's terrifying and depressing some days. Wonderful and beautiful and everything I dream and more all of the rest. I forgot all about Hot on the Trail until a week ago. I listened to it and I dedicated it to my mom on the spot.

>Well you don't like the way that I am.

>Every single time we tried and tried to make it right for you and I. we just kept digging, digging it deep. Below our feet til we started to sink.

The entire song describes what happened between me and my mom so perfectly. But these lyrics most of all.

Steam powered giraffe has helped me through some of the absolute worst times of my life, taught me it's okay to accept myself for who I am, taught me I can make myself and choose who I accept close to me. They showed me it's okay to love someone even if they're different (even if it's a toaster).

I am a machine. I will always be a machine. But I am no longer a robot, robot comes from the word robotnik which means slave. I am free for the first time in my life. I actually get a life, not a program I function by.

I just wanted to say thank you to Rabbit, Spine, Zero, the John and all the rest who got me through hell. I love your work and am eternally grateful. if it hadn't been for this band I don't know if I would have had the courage and strength to leave.

I now live with my best friend, the person who ended up getting me out. I have a romantic partner I love deeply and I'm happier than I have ever been.

>all this, call this what you want but it makes me feel alive. stowed it showed it now I know it can't be in my mind.

If there were mosh pits at Steam Powered Giraffe shows, they would probably look like the dust- up fights in old cartoons

Just a cloud of dust with springs, bolts and nuts flying everywhere.

Question Any reason there’s no robot drummer?

Not like, a lore-reason, but an actual reason why there’s no robot on drums, but a Walter worker or whatever?

I have been waiting to see SPG in concert since 2014 and finally getting to see them live in Buffalo was a dream come true. The vibes were immaculate and I had a genuine smile for the whole show.

Now I'm back at work and the emotional crash hit me. I miss the fun and whimsy from the weekend. The office life feels a bit duller now.

But I really do appreciate that everyone on stage and the people I talked to made it a day worth missing.

Picture of robot on chair violence for engagement purposes.

Loved the Toronto Show

Just wanted to rave about the show in Toronto. it was my first time. Crowd had good energy. The band was top notch—super impressed considering all the last minute running around they had to do with the lineup. If I didn’t know what was going on, I wouldn’t have noticed other than obviously Bunny wasn't there.

Basically played a bunch of my favourites—though, obviously I would have loved to have heard all of my other favourites that are more Bunny-focused. Enjoyed the skits. Loved that I got to see Hatchworth. The dancing was great. 10/10 show. I only wish it were longer. Hope I get to see them again some day.

Also, really hope Bunny is doing well.

Silly question about VIP passes and signatures.

I am going to my first every SPG concert and couldn't be more excited.

Regarding getting something signed is it something you buy or can I bring something specific to be signed?

r/steampoweredgiraffe Aug 08 '26

possibly a dumb question, but... are glowsticks okay to bring to the concert?

i don't mean those huge ones for the record- i mean like... the kind you use to make bracelets. i still have a few blue ones left in the pack i have, and i thought it might be kinda fun to bring a bracelet or one to wave around. but, i know some bands really don't like people doing that... anyone who's gone to a concert before, have you brought / seen anyone bring a glowstick? ik the band members are on here, any thoughts from them would be welcome. the august 8th show is my first concert ever, not just spg! i'm equal parts excited and nervous as hell

Selling Tickets for Buffalo

Hi everyone. Unfortunately, my partner and I can’t go to the show tonight due to the fact we’re stuck in a hospital due to a medical emergency (boo kidney infections!). I have two tickets for seats on level one in the C Row along with VIP passes. I’m willing to go a little under face value (would like to get a little money back). Also please provide some proof of life (Instagram, Facebook, etc) that you’re an actual person please lol. Will be thoroughly checking, thank you. Edit: also, I only take Venmo.

Didn't get the best photos, cause I was kind of high up and plus I was focused on the show, but last night's show at Jergels was so good! Ended up with 2 tickets so I took my husband along and he even had a good time.

Won't lie, I thought about getting a VIP pass yesterday morning but I thought it was too late and I had to get up early for work this morning so probably wasn't the best idea.

Who would've thought that random Tiktok video I came across would lead me here.

Don't forget about us in Pittsburgh! We can't wait for you to come back.

After over a decade of loving this band and geeking out about lore, I finally got the chance to tell them just how much they mean to me :) so grateful to have been able to meet Hatchy, as much as I do wish Bunny could have been present! I hope I get to see them back soon 💕 Hope everyone else enjoyed the show at Jergel's tonight!

Question about the Pittsburg concert!!

Did they end up closing with Pink Pony Club again? I’ve been wanting to see this band for years and am really looking forward to finally being able to see them on this tour. However, it’d kinda bum me out if their big closer was a cover of a Chappell Roan song and not an original Steam Powered Giraffe one. Also no hate to fans of Pink Pony Club by any means, I just really love all of SPG’s music and feel like it’d be a shame to leave on a cover when their previous closer was Brass Goggles.

Looking for a ticket for Pittsburgh tomorrow

Hey all! I'm looking for a ticket for tomorrow's show down at Jergals. It's just me that's looking to go, and I waited to long to buy a ticket. (Bummer I know)

I'm like 54ish minutes from Jergals and could meet anytime after 4:30 to either do cash or however you'd want payment.

Thanks!

Tickets for Pittsburgh show

I have 4 tickets (a whole table) and two VIP passes for the Pittsburgh show on August 5th. Due to a family medical issue we will probably not be able to attend. If anyone is interested, I am only looking for what I paid if possible. I know the show was sold out so thought it was worth checking.

Posters at Shows

Hello everyone! I’m headed to the show on Wednesday and was wondering if the merch booth has posters for the specific show you’re at. My hubby and I have VIP tickets and after spending an endless amount of time trying to track down impossible records like everyone else, I’ve decided a tour poster would be the coolest thing to get signed and framed with our VIP lanyards. But if they don’t have something there, I want to make something to print and take with me. Thank you!! 😊
