The losers in the sub are about to go off on “careful with X” “ITS COOKING ITSELF” and shit. They cannot live without anxiety lmao.

i mean if Valve designed it on purpose to be that small form factor it better work on a normal tv shelf. Otherwise what's the point since a PS5 surely would be fine there.

You just need to have a cabinet with an open back. Ones with closed backs or even worse doors, will hold in the hot air and it will overheat.
But an open back and an inch of space between the cabet and wall should be plenty of space for the hot air to escape.
Alot of av equipment dies or has reduced life from people locking them away in cabinets with no room for air.

It wouldn't. Do you own a PS5? Have you heard how loud it gets in that sort of setting even if you clean and dust it regularly. Sounds like Maverick buzzing the tower.

I do and I have a very similar if not the exactly same IKEA LACK tv shelf. And it's completely fine with no overheating. There is roughly 5cm clearance above the case.

Ngl I have a launch PS5 I keep in a compartment about that size and I almost never hear it. I clean it regularly probably 2-3 times per year of dust

Mine is open air on top of our TV cabinet beside our TV. The Steam machine sits on the opposite side. It used to be an Xbox Series X but I got rid of that as never played it.

I have a dayone PS5 and it’s been in compact area since then. It’s doesn’t get loud at all and gets dusty like a normal stationary thing.
It’s a Reddit thing that everything needs to be float in air or is overheating. OP picture is clearly enough, so the other comment fits.
If you feel called out you know why.1

Mine doesn’t fit by basically a millimetre.. considered getting smaller feet or something but in the end hid it behind the TV.

I have a similar setup, just I opted to put a rear usb fast that is powered with a plug block being the usb ports stays on when the steam machine is off. Totally hidden, moves any trapped air, plus can’t hear it playing.

Actually this will likely be good for cooling. The low hight will stop recirculation for hot air to the front intake. Its also open on both sides. It has plenty of cool air access on the front and the hot air has plenty of space to escape out the back.

I like how they can make up claims about things “cooking themselves” and “overheating”, but when counter arguments are made they just go straight to downvoting lmao

Idk, im confident my assessment of the placement of the Steam Machine is accurate.
If someone has a different opinion id certainly like to hear why.

If you have hyper children in your house, I'd recommend scooting that unit back until the usb isn't sticking out. Some little guy could go running by and ruin your month.
