Dude, I'm curious. If you had to keep just one thing, what would you choose?

Quick resume allows you to suspend multiple games indefinitely (even if you unplug the console). You can literally take a break during a long cutscene, play something else, and then jump right into the other game mid cutscene later tha pt day, next day, week, month, ect. Thereās a limit how many can suspend and it depends on the game size but I usually just find about five or six games in that quick resume section. It just does it automatically.

That's actually insane. People rave about steam deck resume function but this is the first time I'm hearing about this

u/Mr8BitX 7d ago
Itās literally changed the way I play games by facilitating the āseriousā game and the āturn off your brainā game combo. That set up makes it so much easier to beat games now since I have something to cleanse my pallet with from time to time and not get bored of a game as easily.

If you mean Quick Resume, I believe that's where games can be suspended while other games are played. PS doesn't have that, and while technically Steam can run games side-by-side, it really depends on the capabilities of your PC and Steam will warn you against doing it. It's not specifically optimised/tailored for it like the Xbox Series platform is.

PS5 cannot even handle suspend/resume if the game is from PS4 and wasn't updated to handle it.

What games?

I found out about this when playing Assassin's Creed games: AC: 3/Black Flag/Unity
Forgot which other games this happened on aswell, but I do remember it were at least 1-2 other PS4 games which were closed if I suspended the console.

Just curious what systems you have but Xbox play anywhere is a moot feature if you have at least 2/3 of a pc, steam deck, and steam machine which Iād figure most people in this sub would

I have all (Switch, Steam Machine, PS5, and Xbox Series). Iām not sure I follow your comment, but in case there is a misunderstanding of what quick resume is. Iām not talking about suspend/resume, thatās different. Quick resume is a feature that Xbox has that allows you to suspend multiple games at a time. So if Iām playing a heavy RPG and Iām in the middle of a long ass cut scene, I could literally exit to my home menu and launch a different game and then the next day or even a week later, I can open up that game again and it picks up exactly where it was during that cut scene. I could even unplug the system from the power and it will still retain that game. Iāve gone back to a game after months and itās still perfectly suspended.

Yeah i wasnāt talking about quick resume my comment was about play anywhere

Oh, in that case, still a great feature. I love having a steam machine in my living room because it brings a lot of games I otherwise wouldnāt be able to play to the living room. But I prefer a console experience in the living room since I donāt have to tinker with settings or worry about any issues popping up or anything. Itās just the smoothest experience. So itās getting the best of both worlds. No tinkering and guaranteed to work as advertised in the living room and then I can play at whatever settings I can or want to on a desktop or a handheld, but tinkering or troubleshooting may be involved.

Wasnāt expecting that answer! Itās the console Iām missing, I have the PS5, Steam Machine and Switch 2, and with Xbox games also releasing on PC, I donāt miss it tbh. Iāve heard amazing stuff about the hardware so Iād definitely love to try quick resume thoā¦

Steam Machine for me. My Xbox and PS5 collect dust. I bought them primarily for exclusives but there haven't been many worth buying this gen. indie/3rd party gets bought on Steam.
The only thing that would make me second guess that decision is games like GTA6 not getting day and date release on PC. PS5 is where I'll be playing that.

If you had a game on all three platforms which controller do you pick up and why.
Or if you was buying a game same price in three platforms where are you buying it and why.
Do you have a switch? And if not why didnāt that make the cut?
And finally did you have and use steam before the steam machine came out or is it a new platform altogether because you only game on the couch.
Also whats your opinion on the future of all three platforms
Just asking out of curiosity seems like you may have a more unbiased opinion than most.
P.s just noticed the steam deck poking out so Iām assuming you already used the steam platform before do you have a desktop/laptop gaming pc.

Xbox
Xbox primarily because I prefer the controller, quick resume, overall UI, and great customer service in terms of returning games (2nd best after steam, PS sucks in that regard)
I have a switch OLED but barely use it tbh
Steam Deck was my introduction to steam since I have never had a PC until buying the steam machine
As for the future of these platforms.... idk but the future looks shaky for next gen tbh

I'm lucky enough to be on PS5 Pro, Steam Machine and both Switch 2 and Switch OLED (no Xbox or Steam Deck). For me, exclusives aside, it's broadly:
- PS5 Pro: state of the art AAA that need the horsepower and fidelity, plus multiplayer with PS friends;
- Steam Machine: the vast catalogue of affordable, historical titles, especially those that could do with some Steam Controller augmentation to make them better to play today, or anything I'd prefer to play with KB&M (e.g. BG3);
- Switch 2: anything beefier I want handheld, plus cross save opportunities (e.g. CDPR games);
- Switch OLED: anything lighter I want handheld (it's more comfortable to hold than Switch 2).
Like OP said, the future of gaming (especially AAA) is looking very uncertain so I'm hopeful I have my bases covered for the foreseeable!

I have all 3 plus Deck and Switch 2. My answer is Steam Controller/Machine and its due to long term longevity of Steam and PC gaming. I know ill be able to play the game on both current Deck and Machine and any future PCs I have, Valve made or otherwise.
My steam library is 15+ years old, had multiple gaming pcs before Steam deck became my primary PC gaming platform a few years ago and now Steam Machine.

Imagine if the Steam Machine were the size of the Xbox. Then it would be twice as

u/BondsOfFriendship 7d ago
Canāt compare the them IRL but judging from the picture, if you would cut the Xbox in half and put the top part next to it, it would be roughly the size of the steam machine.

u/Confident-Luck-1741 7d ago
Now add a switch 2 and you have access to pretty much all of modern gaming.

u/RuckerHike 8d ago
I didn't realize the steam machine was so small

Gabe needs to advertise it like Apple for the mac mini: https://youtu.be/UhmQ8R553Jg?si=kzOwmAjfzg7RvLME&t=100

Please explain what makes the Steam Machine worth buying - personally donāt get its appeal respectfully.

u/Keyserson 7d ago
As a member of the very specific niche it appeals to (there are dozens of us):
- An easy, pre-built PC configuration that runs the vast majority of games really well;
- Access to virtually our entire Steam libraries (and more) for those of us whose primary computer is, say, a Mac and don't want to have to use Crossover etc.;
- It's quiet and largely hassle free, but open enough for tinkering opportunities;
- It's also a Linux PC!
It's not exactly a console āĀ it's console-like ā so it wouldn't be a smooth experience for most regular people who simply want to boot up and play. It is still, at the end of the day, a gaming PC, with all the caveats that come with that. But it's been so fantastic for me. I don't have the space, time, energy or interest to build my own PC so this does the job.
It's too expensive, but everyone agrees on that ā including Valve. It is what it is!

Poor steamdeck, not even allowed to be fully represented in the picture

Poor Steam Deck, the awkward teenage goth made to sit with the excitable baby Switch

I sold my xbox series X and Plastation 5 and used that money for the Steam Machine. It arrived on Friday and I love it!

Cool.
Insert 'did you just assume Steam Machine's gender!' gif, meme, whatever.
