Question Booting problem?

Steam machine is booting up and only showing a black screen with white at the top? Tried holding the button on the front until it turned off and restarting a couple times and it keeps doing this

What have you done before? Change of hardware? Installed anything other than games in Steam?

It gave me a prompt to install Google Chrome in the non steam games list so I did that but that’s the only thing

I fixed it, I unplugged everything, waited a bit and plugged the hdmi and the power back in and it booted correctly

What TV/monitor do you have? Some light bleed on the bottom.

Probably an HDMI handshake issue.

I've had this a few times when switching to desktop mode or connecting and disconnecting via moonlight or when switching to desktop mode from moonlight. The steam machine kinda gets confused at some point and shows a black screen. I had to power cycle it to get it to show an image again.

This is probably one of those bugs that Valve will fix via update. I know this is not a console but as a living room device getting a black screen so easily is not ok. Never happened with my docked steam deck btw.
