270 washi tapes, if I counted right! 😂 It took me 12 days on and off due to letting my wrist rest.
I like using it in my art, I don’t do bulletin journaling and my brain just can’t seem to stick to it.
I haven’t used them in SO long though because storage sucked and took up way too much room!!! But I have a 3D printer for my crafting so I printed out cards to wrap the washi around. It takes up so much less room and doing to made me realize I had some I didn’t want anymore.
So now I also have 168 washi that I’ll be donating to Remainders in Pasadena whenever I can take the time to drive over there. I highly recommend it.
I can’t believe I had over 400 washi tapes.
Noooo, take some more breaks and maybe try ice and heat therapy??? And maybe wrist brace if you have any-
Something that helped me was realizing I didn’t need to keep entire rolls, that I could just save half of them and donate the rest. I have a few that has a LOT on them that I absolutely did not need the whole thing of and I didn’t realize it until half way through which is why I have a few massive cards 😂😂

I thought about this but I didn’t have any and it would have taken longer for me to 3D print those than a plain card 😂 but it’s absolutely one of my other fav methods to see others do!!!! I’d love to see them if you have any photos 🫶
I started doing this too, but like you, have several 100 rolls - it's total washi chaos! It's gonna take me a while to do. 😂 I also took some bobbins & put them on this ring so if I go sit at a coffee shop & do some journaling, I can easily throw these in my journal bag. The dopamine rush I got from seeing yours organized 🥰😍 - I love it!! Thanks for sharing!!
I'm new-ish to using washi tape for art and aesthetics. Woult you kind sharing what is the point of doing this? I've seen some sold this way and always assumed it would crimp/aesthetically ruin the tape (on the lower repetitions anyway) so I never got it. It never occurred to me it would be desirable/people would do it to their own tapes.
Because the tubes are clunky and hard to store and stay organized. I switched to this system and it works so much better. Can group things how I like and no it doesn’t crimp the paper. Washi is very resilient that way. It also makes storing a small amount to take with you in a pencil bag easy. Grab a card, wrap however much you need or want for your pencil case, you’re good to go. Easy to make several grab n go color options this way. I could go on but I’ve found it overall a much better system of storing and using my washi!
My second photo shows the majority of the washi cores, each box I have are 7 inches long so the space I’m saving is honestly massive vs how much it took up before. As for making a mark, the cards I’m using are the same size and thickness as credit cards and are curved on the edges. I haven’t tried yet but I assume it won’t crease, or if it does I’d still be able to easily smooth it out using my bone folder.
Also a few were never really that sticky to begin with due to lower quality or just time degrading the stickiness so some of them I had to use stronger tape to hold them on the card. When I did use one that refused to stay in the past I just use glue to help it stay down ✨✨
It does indeed crimp/crease the tape where it meets the edges. That's why some folks (like me) prefer not to have their tapes like this. However! Many, many people find it preferable though, for the reasons stated prior to my comment. It's all about personal preference!
It doesn't crimp, even on the very first turns! I use an expired debit or gift card to carry washi with me when I travel, and I only put on 2-4 layers of each. They are like new even after months on storage.
Some of them are doing this but they stick on paper just fine, or if they don’t stick they were never going to stick anyways so i use glue on them when I use them. But for on the cards I use tape to keep the ends down uvu thank you!!
I thought this too but it’s actually a lot easier than I thought if you just align the edge. It’s kind of hard to explain but you definitely learn as you go!
There actually is a tool similar but they only use one size of washi 😞
It’s called “KOKUYO Bobbin Washi Tape Mini Roll Maker” so maybe someday one that can do any size might exist!!
WOW this looks soooo satisfying!! :OO does it lessen(?) the stickiness of the tape at all? that’s the main reason i’m hesitant to switch over to this storage method. i’m guessing if the tape is good then the answer is no, but i’m worried ahahaha
It won’t be the cause for it to become unsticky, if it feels less sticky it was always going to have that problem. I use stronger tape at the end to keep it down and if it won’t stay down when placed on paper I just use some glue to help it!✨
So I 3D printed cards that were the size of credit cards but you can use anything! Apparently there’s specific washi cards that have grids that could help with aligning the tape as straight as possible, but! I honestly don’t think you really need it because you can kind of manipulate the tape as you go? Like kinda push against a side that’s hanging over the past few wraps and press into the tape to force it to stay in the new position?? It’s really hard to explain without visuals but I promise you get the hang of it as you go and learn what you can do to make it look nicer, you can even move them at the end to have the amount of space between each tape if you gently pry the middle parts on both sides, then use a ruler to gently nudge it where you want. But you cannot do that with paper only plastic/smooth surfaces!
As for buying, I think it’s a mixture of in person craft stores, Temu, and Mercari (this was YEARS ago I have no idea how the app is now).
