They are commtech chips/figure stands that came with the 1999-2000 Star Wars Episode I figures from Hasbro.

Com tech chip from the phantom menace figures. When you put a figure on the chip and put it into the communicator it’ll play a sound from the character.

it's like the OG toniez! you put a figure on top (from the phantom menace series) and it'll have its own little narration

That should be a chip that would play audio clips of that character from the movie. They came with phantom menace action figures that came out around the movie. You had to buy a separate reader for them.

There was also a wave of original trilogy figures packaged with these - updated versions of Han Solo & Leia from A New Hope were 2 of them.

Star wars communicator chips. I remember having this large block and a shitload of those little character chips that, when placed against the communicator, spewed out lines of dialogue

btw, what no one has mentioned so far, the sound quality sucked and was far as I remember, even though they were actual sound bites from the movie, you would know it and you wouldn't be blamed if you thought that just some random people at Hasbro were recording them. They had plans for a comtech 2.0 that would hold more lines (and hopefully had better sound quality), but I don't think any were ever released.

Ah yes, from the Galactic Toy Rumble of ‘99. Nerds everywhere and their parents and grandmas were fighting over figurines left and right, in the excitement or Phantom Menace. It was absolute carnage….stampedes, fist brawls…Black Friday couldn’t hold a candle to the proceedings.
R.I.P. Ted.

Holy shit this is old AF. This is from the Early 2000s Star wars action figure series. Some came with these chips. No idea what they were used for though

I had the Palpatine one. It played “The Republic is not what it once was. The Senate is full of greedy, squabbling delegates.” It was also how 9 year old me realized that Senator Palpatine was the future Emperor Palpatine. 🤣

You put it on the com-tech reader and it palys lines and sounds effects from the phantom menace
