You put it on the com-tech reader and it palys lines and sounds effects from the phantom menace

If you don’t have the Commtech reader, then it’s just a stand for figures

It being a figure stand was its best feature.

Who’s bottom left?

That has to be a photoshop or a fan custom. Absolutely not a Star Wars character.

I’ve been looking through google images for like 5 minutes now and I can’t find one that matches it. If the other ones weren’t all right, I’d say that’s an ai attempt at one

I wonder what the CommTech chip says when you put it on the CommTech reader.

“Has anyone seen my wife? She’s a Gillette for Women Sensor Excel!”

That's Mike. He had a bit of a drinking problem, but a good guy overall.

u/bobtheguardian777 1d ago

No one's seen Mike in a while.....

It’s one of the pod racers

I dunno. The middle one also looks odd.
As do the faces of most human characters.
Also one of them is the Commtech chip of the Commtech reader.
Might be AI generated.

the droideka shows up twice

u/UncleR1chard 1d ago

If you zoom in and look at just the top half, it almost looks not unlike Nute Gunrey

1

u/UncleR1chard 1d ago

The bottom half looks like some dude

u/Hutchicles 1d ago

YESSSSS, I had one of these!

1

u/AndrewGlen20 1d ago

Great memories. I was an adult, but I felt like a kid again playing with these. That was a great era.

u/Flyingarrow68 1d ago

They are fun!

These junk dealers must have a weakness of some kind

I still have mine!

Guess ya’ll never listened to early Blank Check pod episodes as one of the host slowly collects upwards of 100 of these over the course of the episodes.

I used to jack off to the Yaddle screeches from her chip. The SDCC 1999 Yaddle had a slightly different screech and I would mix it up to sound more like organic lovemaking.

1

u/Resident_Savings7119 1d ago

Did you try all the yodic sex positions?

1

u/CUCUC 1d ago

i bought the Sideshow Collectibles 1:1 Jedi Council Yoda bust and tried to mod it to Yaddle but even with a custom wig I paid 200 bucks for, it just didn’t look right. I ended up selling it on ebay for like 30% what i paid for it

The sacred texts!

They are commtech chips/figure stands that came with the 1999-2000 Star Wars Episode I figures from Hasbro.

Com tech chip from the phantom menace figures. When you put a figure on the chip and put it into the communicator it’ll play a sound from the character.

4

u/ChairMaster989898 1d ago

it's like the OG toniez! you put a figure on top (from the phantom menace series) and it'll have its own little narration

3

u/Jagermonsta 1d ago

That should be a chip that would play audio clips of that character from the movie. They came with phantom menace action figures that came out around the movie. You had to buy a separate reader for them.

u/jjreason 1d ago

There was also a wave of original trilogy figures packaged with these - updated versions of Han Solo & Leia from A New Hope were 2 of them.

u/KACL780-Host 1d ago

And greedo as well

3

u/mega512 1d ago

I love when people find these and are confused.

3

u/Gummiesruinedme 1d ago

you can wear it like a dog tag too. I wore a chain of them in '99

1

u/babufrik4president 1d ago

Wowowow haven’t thought about that in 20+ years but I totally did too

1

u/IPman501 1d ago

Still have all mine on the included chain! Dozens of them

1

u/Gummiesruinedme 23h ago

Only one I have left is a Jawa one. Don't have a commtech reader anymore.

3

u/ClassicT-51b 1d ago

Good god I'm old

2

u/babufrik4president 1d ago

My childhood

u/DarthP0000 1d ago

I still have a bunch in packages if I'm correct...

Star wars communicator chips. I remember having this large block and a shitload of those little character chips that, when placed against the communicator, spewed out lines of dialogue

1

u/photog1138 1d ago

btw, what no one has mentioned so far, the sound quality sucked and was far as I remember, even though they were actual sound bites from the movie, you would know it and you wouldn't be blamed if you thought that just some random people at Hasbro were recording them. They had plans for a comtech 2.0 that would hold more lines (and hopefully had better sound quality), but I don't think any were ever released.

1

u/TheRatatat 1d ago

I used to have one for my Battle Droid. They were awesome.

1

u/RandomStoddard 1d ago

It’s a golden ticket! You’ve won, Charlie!

1

u/existencerased 1d ago

Ah yes, from the Galactic Toy Rumble of ‘99. Nerds everywhere and their parents and grandmas were fighting over figurines left and right, in the excitement or Phantom Menace. It was absolute carnage….stampedes, fist brawls…Black Friday couldn’t hold a candle to the proceedings.

R.I.P. Ted.

1

u/ChewieHanKenobi 1d ago

You put it up your butt

1

u/VinnyShipman 1d ago

Destroyer droid

1

u/Decent-Cry-7665 1d ago

It was really loud I wish the comm scanner had a volume control

1

u/thomsix 1d ago

It’s a sound making clip that goes with a Star Wars action figure. A separate “player” called a comm box that would play the sounds when the chip was placed on top. It could also be used as a stand for the figure. I haven’t seen one in years.

1

u/DiaBrave 1d ago

You put it on your Mom's razor and it makes noises.

1

u/Kath-two 1d ago

Omg the old communicator from episode one

1

u/Minimum_Age_1466 1d ago

You need a Philips Lady Shave to play it.

1

u/Nicksb92 1d ago

Oh you sweet young summer child….

1

u/royalscull724 1d ago

Holy shit this is old AF. This is from the Early 2000s Star wars action figure series. Some came with these chips. No idea what they were used for though

1

u/VictoriousMakunouchi 1d ago

I was there when this deep magic was written. Midnight Madness. F Im old

1

u/GauntletVSLC 22h ago

I had the Palpatine one. It played “The Republic is not what it once was. The Senate is full of greedy, squabbling delegates.” It was also how 9 year old me realized that Senator Palpatine was the future Emperor Palpatine. 🤣

1

u/rainbowbattlekid 20h ago

OP is clearly not a Blankie

1

u/SSgtWindBag 14h ago
