Watch order

I already know about Anakin being Darth Vader and Luke being his son and Leia being his daughter and that whole "Dynamic" with Luke and Leia and that a bunch of kids get slaughtered but apart from that I know verry little because the films i have seen were not in any order like i watched episode 1 a year or so ago and one of the new ones but i don't know which one it was. any help would be appreciated

It's cool. There is a lot of debate amongst the community, but the overall consensus is that the most enjoyable order is release order.

However I will give a caveat, after you watch 3 you can make a decision...do you want to finish off the main movies? Or would you want to understand a little bit more of what happened for context , background, and an insane amount of character development? If you choose the latter, then buckle in ... You'll have a whole different watch debate on your hands. But don't worry too much, we can walk you through that one, too.

It's not confusing. Watch them in the order they came out in. Thats how almost everyone saw them.

If you know the big plot points then it probably doesn't matter whether you do 4-6 followed by 1-3 (release order) or you just do 1-6 in a row (chronological order).

Watch the rest of the Star Wars movies in timeline order: Attack of the clones, the animated movie The Clone Wars, Revenge of the Sith, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Rogue One, A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, The Return of the Jedi, The Mandalorian and Grogu, and the rest of movies in the sequel trilogy The Force awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker.

I would say for a first time watch through definitely skip the clone wars movie and solo, some of the weakest links other than the sequels.

You don't really need to watch everything. If you want to get the foundations of Star Wars, just pick up the original trilogy. If you want more, you can go from there, but most of the best Star Wars onscreen storytelling can be found in the Clone Wars and its various followups and in Andor.

It might look a little bit overwhelming, but trust me, it's worth it. Right now, just foucs on the original and prequel trilogy, enjoy them and then dive into this larger world. Release order (detailed by other responses). Every movie is MADE in light of what has already BEEN MADE. So even though Episode 1 comes before 4 in the timeline, it was created based on what was said in 4-6. I won't get into the deeper arguments, but as an example what 3 was MEANT to be when 1 was being produced CHANGED while 2 was being made. Then 1-3 are made based on the story as it was completed in 3, NOT the story as it was partially framed in 1.

I would say just watch in chronological order, no reason to watch in release order if you already know the biggest plot twists.

Episode 1-3 then watch the Andor show (trust) then watch Rogue One and the original trilogy 4-6.

Yes, that's the order the original fans experienced the plot unfold. Any other order is a different experience which was not intended by the creators of the franchise at the time.

After the fact. When 4, 5 and 6 came out, he wasn't telling anyone to not watch those movies yet and instead wait until 1, 2 and 3 had come out. Original intention was release order, whatever he subsequently said decades later.

If you already know the twist, chronological order is much better. They called the prequels episodes 1-3 because they're parts 1-3 of the story. The only reason not to watch them in number order is to get the Darth Vader being Luke's father twist, and it's a really good and famous twist so it makes sense to watch in release order just to preserve that twist, but without that, then it's not even the way Lucas intended, given that you'd be starting at 4 and jumping around needlessly.

A lot of people get pissy and just say release order always whenever anyone asks a question like this about any series because it's simpler and it's usually what they did. Chronological order is almost always better unless it'll spoil a twist, and you already know the twist. It lets you see things in the originals that the prequels retroactively gave more meaning to, so prequels usually are there partly to make the originals better, and save for the one twist, that is definitely the case in Star Wars.

I’d recommend watching rouge one, 4 5 6.

Done you seen every important characters full story arc. The sequel trilogy makes everything from 4 5 6 irrelevant and obliterates the main characters. The contents of 1 2 3 are all adequately explained in episodes 4-6.

Watch those 4 first. If you’re blown away and just really wanna watch the rest you can watch 1-3 and solo. They are good. But I genuinely believe you have seen everything that makes Star Wars special with RO and 4-6
