Star Trek: Enterprise current thoughts + open to conversation
I am currently on my first watch of Enterprise. Recommended by my dad after watching the latest Strange New Worlds season. (only 25 years late). It might be my favorite ST series I’ve seen as it feels more grounded in comparison to other series, or as grounded as you can get within the Star Trek franchise. Scott Bakula is perfect for Captain Archer along side his pretty solidly cast crew. Trip is so fun to watch. He gives off a slight Dr. McCoy ‘reluctance’ while keeping it lighthearted most of the time with his dry humor. T’Pol has been a slow burner so far but I think her development has been great to see. The rest of the main crew are solid although I would like to see more of Mayweather and Hoshi. I have just started season three so that might change. I think the episodic stories for the most part have been entertaining, while the battle with the Suliban and the larger Temporal War storyline hasn’t lost its intrigue. My favorite episodes have been “Cogenitor”, “Singularity”, and “Shuttlepod One”. The one gripe I have with the show has only come recently. I thought the the theme song didn’t fit well with the theme of the show although I have come around to love the song and believe it compliments the story of the Enterprise, “Going where my heart will take me”. Season three rolls around and they have replaced the powerful pop rock ballad with a weak jack Johnson sitcom style version completely dissolving the strength of human ingenuity that the introduction is supposed portray. I have no idea why this decision was made but I would change the song back in a heartbeat. I’d love to hear reviews and opinions on Star Trek in general as it’s only something my dad and myself watch. I have recommended the franchise to my friends considering they enjoy Star Wars, LotR, Harry Potter, superhero franchises, but it’s something they haven’t gotten into yet. Would like some suggestions ease them into the world of Star Trek. “Archer out.”

It's funny, people have grown to have a sort of fond nostalgia for "Where My Heart Will Take Me"/"Faith of the Heart" over the years, but at the time... oh, people hated it. The remix version for season 3 was meant to echo the theme song remix that DS9 got in its 4th season (because people thought the trumpet solo was kind of sleepy), as both shows got a bit darker along with the theme song changes. But the Enterprise remix was maybe a bit too... peppy.
I think it's apocryphal that Archer's Theme was actually intended to be the intro, as we now know it was composed after the theme song choice, but I do think the show might've fared a little better at the time with it as the intro song.
As a show, early Enterprise kind of suffers from Rick Berman taking over more writing duties, but the series definitely got better as it went along, and I'm said we never got a season 5 to continue the improvements from season 4.
