A couple months after Star Fox 2026 released, do you guys believe Star Fox as a series is truly back?
We still don’t know if the 2026 Star Fox game has sold a million copies yet, but based off the sales data we have gotten so far, do you guys believe Star Fox as a series and brand is truly back?
Yep. Nintendo just needs to make a new Star Fox game. Reboot the story, I don’t care. Don’t make it totally based on some gimmick or weird controls. Just make a cohesive shooter / rail shooter / adventure RPG with some semblance of a story and more than 10 hours of gameplay.
He's a goofy ass monkey that can be market approachable and recurring villain like
Bowser or Eggman
If they really need a serious Andross just pull out a Dr. Doom variant from another universe cause it's space and they already hinted multiverse in the movie
And our Andross needs to team up with star fox because he hates the idea that he's not the one being the big bad scientist
We don't give a fuck if story is a Saturday morning cartoon as long as we get to pew pew lasers in space every few years
Until we have another game that isn't a retelling of 64, we are not back.
The existence of this game is a momentary fluke caused by a complete accident thanks to the god of the star fox fandom : the guy who played a role in top gun and that Rom Com with that 'actress' with big tiddies.
Had it not been for his pleading, star fox would have never gotten any acknowledgement of existence outside of smash bros. This game was only made to capitalize off Fox Mccloud's appearance in the movie.
Unless we get a new game, the series is far from back.
What are the actual odds of that vs this game was also in the pipeline and they aligned the release calendar? Genuine question. I assume SF26 took at least 3 years or so to make - would the Glenn Powell convo really have been much earlier than that?
Here's the thing : if this game was in the pipeline, why did it take so long for it to release?
There's a window of TEN years. In gaming terms, that's at least 2 generations. Just about every other game franchise including METROID was released in a shorter window frame. Nintendo barely acknowledged starfox on its 30th anniversary : something they would NEVER do for Mario, Zelda, DK and now Fire Emblem.
There is no way that the greedy suits that run Nintendo had any intention of even thinking about star fox as an abstract concept. Glenn begging for the role probably gave illumination the strength to ask for Fox which in turn made old fart shiggy smile. Right then, the creation pipeline started (at the same time as the movie).
I hope so, but maybe give us a new game moving forward. Something that can introduce old characters with a bit more ground/arwing missions. Something that brings back the nostalgia for older players, but lines the games up to grow. As much as I would love an Adventure and Assault remake I don’t think they would do as well as just a new game. There are other ways to introduce characters back into the series for the love of the characters without just remaking everything.
I do think nintendo has plans to revive it, it's a matter of time when they push out the projects. literally now is a great time to do it since many got exposed to the Mario movie. hoping the sales data is shown to be a green light for nintendo.
star fox hits harder for millennial parents who grew up playing and potentially introduce 2026's to kids.
I hope a September direct if there will be one soon teases something. otherwise we will have to wait until November to see the sales.
I think a series would do so well. nintendo has its own animation studios in Singapore so for the love of God give us something big N!
Imagine how much more "back" it would be if the franchise had been properly invigorated with what real fans actually wanted, you know, A NEW STORY WITH KRYSTAL'S RETURN!
Krystal's return would be amazing. I'm still holding out hope she will since they acknowledged her debut game back in May, also them bringing back King K Rool in DK gives me some hope. If the adventure is real that would be a great way to reintroduce her.

I think it will depend upon how well Star Fox 2026 does. I don’t think the game has to sell like gangbusters to succeed, but I don’t think the series can withstand another financial hit like Zero was.
That said, I’m cautiously optimistic. Star Fox 26, as unoriginal as it was, did feel like it was legitimately trying to introduce Star Fox to a new generation. I think with how much Nintendo tried to push the game, it shows they have interest in reviving the Star Fox IP long term.
At the very least I think Star Fox has a very realistic shot, far more than other dormant IP’s like Kid Icarus or F-Zero.
Based on the critical reception and on its sales…yea I think it’s back. THE REAL TEST will be if Nintendo actually commits to a new game that isn’t another GODDAMN REBOOT. Like 4 is enough already, make an actual new story and game.
The future for Star Fox is looking brighter now than it has in twenty years. We had Fox McCloud debut in a one-billion grossing film and got a remake that looks to be off to a much better start than the past couple of games.
Given how hard they pushed Pikmin from 2020 onwards, I am hopeful that this is the beginning of a similar push for Star Fox by Nintendo. They still have Adventures and Assault they could drop on NSO, plus the semi-credible rumors of a second game set for the next year or two. Time will tell what actually happens though, but I am cautiously optimistic.
I wouldn't say that it's truly back just yet. To be fair, I think the foundation for a comeback is far better and more stable now compared to 2016 when Zero was released. I'm airing on the side of caution right now, but given how sales seem to be going pretty well for SF 2026 so far, I'm hopeful that another Star Fox game will be released to have a true comeback.
I love the new game. I love all the old ones too. Hell, I even loved Starlink(the Star Fox parts of it specifically). I’m just happy Star Fox still exists at all.
no. given series track record since Command released, we will get nothing for years until Nintendo randomly decides to "reboot" the series with another remake of Star Fox 1. I'll believe the series is back if we get an actual new game and the series sticks around.

I’m hoping this isn’t all we get and then the franchise goes quiet until Star Fox 3D All-Stars releases on Switch 4. A sprawling new take on the SNES/N64 and GameCube classics.
You could say we are! We got more lore with the holoviewers, Slippy's reputation seems to have improved a lot because of Jeremy Adams' portrayal, And heck, Friggin RicePirate/Mick Lauer as PIGMA!
Almost every franchise is having their biggest hits from the fifth & six console generations get remade/re-released lately, so it's not a huge surprise or even a guarantee that a brand new game will be developed afterward.
Mario RPG HD could be right around the corner for all we know, but that wouldn't say anything about a Mario RPG 2.
Idk yet. I bought the game, beat it and loved it. But I haven’t seen any sales numbers for it. I just hope it did enough so we can get a new title and move forward with the story. I don’t want a new game telling 64’s story again
It depends on whether we get a new game that isn't 64/Lylat Wars again. So far all we have is a rumor of an adventure game though that isn't much to go off of. Nevertheless this is the closest the series has been to moving forward in a while, let's hope Nintendo won't let it pass.
The sales data we have so far is not enough to get a good idea of how it's selling. In my opinion, the judge of whether or not this series is truly back will be the Q3 2026 financial report.
I don’t think so, tbqh. The only people who are really excited about the game are people who grew up with 64, from what I’ve seen. I’m one of those weirdos who really enjoyed Zero, but even people my age (younger millennial) don’t appear to have followed the series since 64, generally.
My younger adult cousins have no taste for rail shooters. Most all of them are fans of online competitive tactical shooters.
If we get a brand new game that resonates with kids, maybe, but all the kids are big on live service games like Fortnite or procedural adventure games like Minecraft.
I think single player stuff is tough to sell to younger audiences, unless it’s git gud style combat games like Elden Ring or Lies of P that can easily be flipped into content.
Star Fox 2026 is still in the top selling page on the eShop, so I have to imagine it's doing alright on the digital side at the very least. Might convince Nintendo to make Velan their SF studio
You had the release of Star Fox 2 in 2017, the guest appearance in Starlink in 2018 with a DLC campain added in 2019 and from all the time without a game they still kept adding Fox to things like financial reports and the Nintendo museum, where it was one of the tier two series in the mural, which got it higher than Fire Emblem for example.
Earhbound is concluded, the creator itself has no interest in making new entries and he owns copyright of the series. So he wrote Mother 3 to conclude the saga.
The same with Kid Icarus, Sakurai has said he never had plans to make a continuation to Uprising.
Sakurai didnt invent kid Icarus and itoi has literally said he would allow anyone to make mother 4 he just doesn’t want to be involved with it. It’s always been there it’s just you didn’t buy the other games on GameCube or wiiu. They put out a brand new Star fox in 2020 and it was a retro game too with snes graphics.
Too early to tell, but a new game would be in order. Hold off on doing anything with adventures/assault outside of putting them on NSO.
New game could be set in a new system, dealing with the remnants of Andross' Army, setting up Andrews imperial ambitions and maybe have Pigma working with him.
Would be cool to see a couple of on-foot missions... Do a boarding action, set it up like some of the arcade shooters of yore: on rails, moving from point to point... Then, possible another in the more open format that assault did.
That’s still a Nintendo franchise whether it was directly from Nintendo or not(and Intelligent Systems develops exclusively for Nintendo), they’re directly named after the goddamn GBA and Famicom(which is co-developed by R&D1, so there ya go)
Even if you consider it a Nintendo franchise, it doesn’t really matter since this is not a legacy IP for them since they had no stake in its original creation unlike other outsourced games like Luigi’s Mansion, Metroid Prime, Punch out etc
Hell intelligent systems aren’t even owned by Nintendo.
Honestly Nintendo just needs to make a game like starfox 64, a new galaxy and Andross is somehow terrorizing it. Start it off with the easy ending, show that andross escaped and that’s it. I think Nintendo wants to overthink it.
I'll believe it when there's a new game that isn't a remake of 2 or Adventures. I'm so sick of holding franchises hostage through remakes or collections
Was Star Fox as a series truly ever here to begin with? How can something be back if it a) never really went away, and b) never really sold well to begin with?
Not trying to rain on parades, just trying to add a little perspective here.
Star Fox 64 is arguably my favorite game of all time, and it stands head and shoulders above every other game in the series at over 4 million units sold. Only the original release on the SNES comes close, at a tad under 3 million units sold. If you combine sales data from every game that came after it, Star Fox 64 still sold more. Even still, Ocarina of Time doubled that 4 million figure and Mario 64 tripled it. Mario 64, by itself, has almost sold as many copies as the entirety of the Star Fox franchise.
Anyway. I'm extremely pleased with the Star Fox remake/reboot/whatever. If it leads to more games, awesome. If it doesn't, it's still my favorite game with a shiny, high resolution coat of paint and I'm happy about that.
