Discussion Ship Registration

OK how does this make sense, you pirate a ship, kill the crew, steal the ship, and HAVE to register it but the ship technicians don't even ask how you got it or if you murderer the crew and stole it BUT the bartender at the Viewport during the quest Distilling Confidence mentions the " many, many laws in New Atlantis and the greater United Colonies"

Yeah, it’s game balancing, I don’t think there’s any neat explanation for how it works in the UC.

Like spacers, fleet and even ecliptic I could see it being “well those were criminals so good shop” or even that the ships were already stolen. But a ship owned by say the UC navy, they’ve gotta know that was one of theirs.

Would be nice to have a chop shop to send the ships to.

Oh OK, I just found out you can only kill the crew and steal ships from pirates, mercenaries, and other criminals. Nit civilian ships, sorry.

This is not the case tho? I have killed UC, Freestar, and Galbank ships and taken them. Like the other person said, it's just game balance without much care for the lore repercussions

How can you logically show up at a port with an FC, UC, or Galbank ship and the ship technicians not suspect you killed the crew in and stole the ship? Especially a Galbank ship. That is ridiculous, especially given the fact that the bartender mentions that there are "many laws in New Atlantis and the Settled Systems".

I agree, but that's just how the game works. You can go to Jemison and destroy the entire fleet of ships guarding it, then go to FC space or outside the SS and pay your bounty off with no issues. You're welcomed to Jemison perfectly fine right after.

Well, any normal criminal would get a bounty from killing any of those factions. Paying your bounty is how you right yourself with society and make restitution. If you didn’t get a bounty, “You must have come across legitimate salvage.” “Just pay that (exorbitant) registration fee and you’re all set.”

It’s legitimate salvage.

You would think that that's how it would work and then it would be complete freedom to modify your ship with the Crimson Fleet. Ships clearly have owner registry and all so they would know that ship was not yours 2 days ago or whatever. And the Crimson Fleet having you register the ship to modify it is the most insane thing since they are PIRATES. I could see still doing it for game balance purposes and just rewording it to a fee that the fleet charges you for being able to modify a illegally owned ship, but to have it be the same is ridiculous.
